The flow past a circular cylinder forced to vibrate transversely is numerically simulated by solving the two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations modified by the vibration velocity of a circular cylinder at a Reynolds number of 164. The higher-order finite difference scheme is employed for the spatial discretization along with the second order Adams-Bashforth and the first order backward-Euler time integration. The calculated cylinder vibration frequency is between 0.60 and 1.30 times of the natural vortex-shedding frequency. The calculated oscillation amplitude extends to 25% of the cylinder diameter and in the case of the lock-in region it is 60%. It is made clear that the cylinder oscillation has influence on the wake pattern, the time histories of the drag and lift forces, power spectral density and phase diagrams, etc. It is found that these results include both the periodic (lock-in) and the quasi-periodic (non-lock-in) state. The vortex shedding frequency equals the driving frequency in the lock-in region but is independent in the non-lock-in region. The mean drag and the maximum lift coefficient increase with the increase of the forcing amplitude in the lock-in state. The lock-in boundaries are also established from the present direct numerical simulation.

Recently, there were many researches for efficiency improvement of DSC. Among of these works, research of surface treatment is still a prerequisite for electron diffusion, light-harvesting and surface state of $DSC^{4)}$. Using of the surface treatment, it can be raise up porosity of $TiO_{2}$ nano-crystalline structure on $photo-electrode^{5)}$. There are chemical, physical, electrical and optical methods which raise up its porosity. In this paper, we have designed and manufactured MOPA-type ultrasonic circuit (100W, frequency and duty variable). Manufactured ultrasonic circuit to use to force cavity density and power into $TiO_{2}$ paste. Then, we have optimized forcing time, frequency and duty of ultrasonic irradiation for surface treatment of photo-electrode of DSC. In I-V characteristic test of DSC, ultrasonic and thermal treated DSC shows 19% improved its efficiency against established DSC.
Galactic spiral arms are abundant with interesting gaseous substructures. It has been suggested that arm substructures arise from the wiggle instability (WI) of spiral shocks. While the nature of the WI remained elusive, our recent work without considering magnetic fields shows that the WI is physically originated from the accumulation of potential vorticity (PV) generated by deformed shock fronts. To elucidate the characteristics of the WI in more realistic galactic situations, we extend our previous linear stability analysis of spiral shocks by including magnetic fields. We find that magnetic fields reduce the amount of density compression at shocks, making the shock fronts to move toward the upstream direction. Magnetic tension forces from bent field lines stabilize the WI by prevent the generation of PV. When the spiral-arm forcing is F=5% of the centrifugal force of galaxy rotation, the maximum growth rate of the WI is found to be about 1.0, 0.4, and 0.2 times the orbital angular frequency for the plasma parameter ${\beta}=100$, 10, and 5, respectively. Shocks with ${\beta}=1$ are stable to the WI for F=5%, while becoming still unstable when F=10%.
One of the fascinating prospects is the possibility of new hydrodynamics technology on micro-scale system since oscillations of micro-droplets are of practical and scientific importance. It has been widely conceived that the lowest oscillation mode of a pendant droplet is the longitudinal vibration, i.e. periodic elongation and contraction along the longitudinal direction. Nonlinear and forced oscillations of supported viscous droplet were focused in the present study. The droplet has a free contact line with solid plate and inviscid fluid. Natural frequencies of a pendant droplet have been investigated experimentally by imposing the acoustic wave while the frequency is being increased at a fixed amplitude. It is found that a pendant droplet shows the resonant behaviors at each mode similar to the theoretical analysis. The rotation of the droplet about the longitudinal axis is the oscillation mode of the lowest resonance frequency. This rotational mode can be invoked by periodic acoustic forcing and is analogous to the pendulum rotation. It is also found that the natural frequency of a pendant droplet is independent of the drop density and surface tension but inversely proportional to the square root of the droplet size.

Security and resource-saving are both demands of the fifth generation (5G) wireless networks. In this paper, we study the secrecy spectrum efficiency (SSE) and secrecy energy efficiency (SEE) of a K-tier massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) enabled heterogeneous cellular network (HetNet), in which artificial noise (AN) are employed for secrecy enhancement. Assuming (i) independent Poisson point process model for the locations of base stations (BSs) of each tier as well as that of eavesdroppers, (ii) zero-forcing precoding at the macrocell BSs (MBSs), and (iii) maximum average received power-based cell selection, the tractable lower bound expressions for SSE and SEE of massive MIMO enabled HetNets are derived. Then, the influences on secrecy oriented spectrum and energy efficiency performance caused by the power allocation for AN, transmit antenna number, number of users served by each MBS, and eavesdropper density are analyzed respectively. Moreover, the analysis accuracy is verified by Monte Carlo simulations.
The present study numerically investigates the motion of a solid body suspended in the square enclosure with natural convection. A two-dimensional circular cylinder levitated thermally has been simulated by using thermal lattice Boltzmann method(TLBM) with the direct-forcing immersed boundary method. To deal with the ascending, falling or levitation of a circular cylinder in natural convection, the immersed boundary method is expanded and coupled with the TLBM. The circular cylinder is located at the bottom of a square enclosure with no restriction on the motion and freely migrates due to the Boussinesq approximation which is employed for the coupling between the flow and temperature fields. For different density ratio between the cylinder and the fluid, the motion characteristics of the circular cylinder for various Grashof numbers have been carried out. The Prandtl number is fixed as 0.7.

We use a novel, forced censoring technique that closer fits the lower tails of strenth distributions to better estimate extremly smaller percentiles for measuring progress in continuous improvement initiatives. These percentiles are of greater interest for companies, government oversight organizations, and consumers concerned with safely and preventing accidents for many products in general, but specifically for medium density fiberboard (MDF). The international industrial standard for MDF for measuring highest quality is internal bond (IB, also called tensile strengh) and its smaller percentiles are crucial, especially the first percentile and lower ones. We induce censoring at a value just above the median to weight lower observations more. Using this approach, we have better fits in the lower tails of the distribution, where these samller percentiles are impacted most. Finally, bootstrap estimates of the small percentiles are used to demonstrate improved intervals by our forced censoring approach and the fitted model. There was evidence from the study to suggest that MDF has potentially different failure modes for early failures. Overall, our approach is parsimonious and is suitable for real time manufacturing settings. The approach works for either strengths distributions or lifetime distributions.
