유효감쇠비를 이용한 점탄성 감쇠기의 설계 (Design of Viscoelastic Dampers Using Effective Damping Ratio)

  • To enhance seismic performance of a structure ATC-40 and FEMA-273 propose technical strategies such as increasing strength, altering stiffness, and reducing demand by employing base isolation and energy dissipation devices. Specifically the energy dissipation devices directly increase the ability of the structure to dampen earthquake response. However nonlinear dynamic time history analysis of a structure with energy dissipation devices is complicated and time consuming. In this study a simple and straightforward procedure is developed using effective damping ratio to obtain the required amount of viscoelastic dampers in order to meet given performance objectives. Parametric study has been performed for the period of the structure, yield strength, and the stiffness after the first yield. According to the analysis results, earthquake demand and required damping ratio were reduced by installing viscoelastic dampers. The results also show that with the addition of the supplemental damping evaluted by the proposed method the performance of the model structures are well restrained within the target point.

  • In Korea Electric Power Corporation (or KEPCO), several Demand-Side Management (or DSM) program have been carried out to effectively meet electric power demand at least costs by modifying customers electricity use patterns. As one of them, KEPCO applies low-priced night thermal-storage power service for heat appliances to facilitate efficient use of power facilities by shifting relatively high daytime demands to night hours to build loads during the off-peak periods. In the market of heat-storage type water-heater, electric water-heater has been mostly used, but it has low energy efficiency and needs high capacity electric equipments. So in order to replace these electric water heaters, 15 HP air-source heat pump water heater is developed in Korea Electric Research Institute (or KEPRI). This paper shows that measurement system for performance testing of heat pump water heater is established and heating capacity and performance is analyzed and measured for out-door environmental change.

Assessment of seismic strengthening solutions for existing low-rise RC buildings in Nepal

  • The main objective of this study is to analytically investigate the effectiveness of different strengthening solutions in upgrading the seismic performance of existing reinforced concrete (RC) buildings in Nepal. For this, four building models with different structural configurations and detailing were considered. Three possible rehabilitation solutions were studied, namely: (a) RC shear wall, (b) steel bracing, and (c) RC jacketing for all of the studied buildings. A numerical analysis was conducted with adaptive pushover and dynamic time history analysis. Seismic performance enhancement of the studied buildings was evaluated in terms of demand capacity ratio of the RC elements, capacity curve, inter-storey drift, energy dissipation capacity and moment curvature demand of the structures. Finally, the seismic safety assessment was performed based on standard drift limits, showing that retrofitting solutions significantly improved the seismic performance of existing buildings in Nepal.

  • As entering in the time of high oil price, seriousness of an energy is on the rise and the importance of energy is growing. Especially, building energy occupying 24% of total demand of energy is expected to be possible to reduce energy demand more than other section. To reduce the building energy consumption, this study analyzes function and thermal performance of Super window by heat experimental apparatus. Super window is a 2-track low-e glazing window for high insulation efficiency. By applying the results of this experiment to building energy efficiency rating tool, this study compares energy efficiency rates depending on a region.-Jeju, South, Central. And it shows how much does Super window reduce Building energy consumption.

WiMedia를 위한 멀티홉 라우팅 프로토콜 개발 및 성능분석 (Design and Performance Analysis of Multi-hop Routing Protocol for WiMedia)

  • WiMedia는 다른 WPAN 기술에 비해 빠른 전송률을 제공하지만 전송 범위가 10미터로 제한되어 있어 그 이상의 거리에 존재하는 디바이스와의 통신은 불가능하다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 WiMedia 네트워크에서 제한된 전송 범위를 극복하여 실시간(Real-Time) 데이터를 전송하기 위한 멀티홉 QoS 라우팅 프로토콜을 제안하였다. 제안된 라우팅 프로토콜은 Table-Driven 라우팅 알고리즘과 On-Demand 라우팅 알고리즘이 결합된 하이브리드 형 라우팅 프로토콜로 2홉 이내의 거리에 존재하는 디바이스에 대한 경로는 주기적으로 전송되는 이웃 디바이스의 정보를 수집한 후 Table-Driven 라우팅 알고리즘을 사용하여 생성하며 3홉 이상의 거리에 존재하는 디바이스에 대한 경로는 On-Demand 라우팅 알고리즘을 사용하여 생성한다. 그리고 ns-2 시뮬레이션을 통해 제안된 라우팅 프로토콜과 AODV, 그리고 DSDV간의 성능을 비교하였으며, 그 결과 처리율과 지연시간에 있어 우수한 성능을 보였다.

TCP Accelerator for DVB-RCS SATCOM Dynamic Bandwidth Environment with HAIPE

  • A high assurance IP encryption (HAIPE) compliant protocol accelerator is proposed for military networks consisting of red (or classified) networks and black (or unclassified) networks. The boundary between red and black sides is assumed to be protected via a HAIPE device. However, the IP layer encryption introduces challenges for bandwidth on demand satellite communication. The problems experienced by transmission control protocol (TCP) over satellites are well understood: While standard modems (on the black side) employ TCP performance enhancing proxy (PEP) which has been shown to work well, the HAIPE encryption of TCP headers renders the onboard modem's PEP ineffective. This is attributed to the fact that under the bandwidth-on-demand environment, PEP must use traditional TCP mechanisms such as slow start to probe for the available bandwidth of the link (which eliminates the usefulness of the PEP). Most implementations recommend disabling the PEP when a HAIPE device is used. In this paper, we propose a novel solution, namely broadband HAIPE-embeddable satellite communications terminal (BHeST), which utilizes dynamic network performance enhancement algorithms for high latency bandwidth-on-demand satellite links protected by HAIPE. By moving the PEP into the red network and exploiting the explicit congestion notification bypass mechanism allowed by the latest HAIPE standard, we have been able to regain PEP's desired network enhancement that was lost due to HAIPE encryption (even though the idea of deploying PEP at the modem side is not new). Our BHeST solution employs direct video broadcast-return channel service (DVB-RCS), an open standard as a means of providing bandwidth-on-demand satellite links. Another issue we address is the estimation of current satellite bandwidth allocated to a remote terminal which is not available in DVBRCS. Simulation results show that the improvement of our solution over FIX PEP is significant and could reach up to 100%. The improvement over the original TCP is even more (up to 500% for certain configurations).

  • It is the challenging task to predict seismic demand for structural design. In current seismic design provisions such as UBC, NEHRP, ATC 3-06, the seismic demand is calculated using the response spectrum with response modification factor (R). This paper investigates variability of seismic demand according to selecting the earthquake ground motion groups. Different Earthquake sets used by Miranda, Riddell and Seed selected were used in this study. Earthquake sets selected by authors include 62 sets of near field ground motion and 19 sets one pulse ground motion. Linear Elastic Response Spectrum (LERS), the variation of performance points of calculated by Capacity Spectrum Method (CSM) were considered with respect to the different sets of earthquake ground motions.

  • In this paper, an intelligent demand control system was introduced. This system are composed of demand controller, RTU, power line modem and HMI program. The proposed demand controller was capable of synchronizing with watt-hour meter recommended by KEPCO(Korea Electrical Power Corporation). To control remote loads, network function using powerline communication is implemented in RTU with HMI program and novices are able to operate system easily. Additionally using the power line, the cost and time of installation can b saved. The system performance was proved with a several experiments.

  • This paper studies that $\sigma$ values(10, 20, 50) and $\rho$ values(-0.6, -0.3, 0.0, 0.3, 0.6) affect the total inventory cost of a supply chain and order fill rate when the market demand process follows a general auto-correlated AR(1) process without seasonality. $\sigma$ indicates the degree of demand fluctuation and $\rho$ means the trend of demand. ANOVA tests using a 5% significance level are performed in SPSS to examine significant performance changes among various cases.

수요변동시 자동창고의 공동영역 저장정책 수행도 평가 (Performance evaluation of AS/RS common zone storage policy with demand variation)

  • Performances of common zone with various sizes are examined for possible demand rate variations for an AS/RS. Common zone is a middle area located between the 1st class and the 2nd class to be used by the 1st class Items if the assigned racks are not enough. This area is designed to resolve the rack shortage problem associated with a particular class. In the previous researches, effect of demand rate variation is Ignored since flxed demand rate is assumed. It is found that rack shortage rate is decreased up to 67% of common zone size. However, no difference is found at above 70%. Waiting time tends to be longer with Increased common zone while travel time and throughput are not affected at all with the common zone sloe.
