A series of amphiphilic dendrons n-18 (n: generation number, 18: octadecyl chain) based on an aliphatic polyether denderitic core and octadecyl peripheries were synthesized using a convergent dendron synthesis consisting of a Williamson etherification and hydroboration/oxidation reactions. This study investigated their thermal and self-assembling behavior in the solid state using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) absorption spectroscopy, and small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS). DSC indicated that the melting transition and the corresponding heat of the fusion of the octadecyl chain decreased with each generation. FT-IR showed that the hydroxyl focal groups were hydrogen-bonded with one another in the solid state. DSC and FT-IR indicated microphase-separation between the hydrophilic dendritic cores and hydrophobic octadecyl peripheries. SAXS data analysis in the solid state suggested that the lower-generation dendrons 1-18 and 2-18 self-assemble into lamellar structures based upon a bilayered packing of octadecyl peripheries. In contrast, the analyzed data of higher-generation dendron 3-18 is consistent with 2-D oblique columnar structures, which presumably consist of elliptical cross sections. The data obtained could be rationalized by microphase-separation between the hydrophilic dendritic core and hydrophobic octadecyl peripheries, and the degree of interfacial curvature associated with dendron generation.
The surface of silicon dummy wafers is contaminated with metallic impurities owing to the reaction with and adhesion of chemicals during the oxidation process. These metallic impurities negatively affect the device performance, reliability, and yield. To solve this problem, a wafer-cleaning process that removes metallic impurities is essential. RCA (Radio Corporation of America) cleaning is commonly used, but there are problems such as increased surface roughness and formation of metal hydroxides. Herein, we attempt to use a chelating agent (EDTA) to reduce the surface roughness, improve the stability of cleaning solutions, and prevent the re-adsorption of impurities. The bonding between the cleaning solution and metal powder is analyzed by referring to the Pourbaix diagram. The changes in the ionic conductivity, H2O2 decomposition behavior, and degree of dissolution are checked with a conductivity meter, and the changes in the absorbance and particle size before and after the reaction are confirmed by ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-vis) and dynamic light scattering (DLS) analyses. Thus, the addition of a chelating agent prevents the decomposition of H2O2 and improves the life of the silicon wafer cleaning solution, allowing it to react smoothly with metallic impurities.
We studied change in water contact angle on $TiO_2$ surfaces upon high-energy electron-beam treatment. Depending on conditions of e-beam exposures, surface OH-content could be increased or decreased. In contrast, water contact angle continuously decreased with increasing e-beam exposure and energy, i.e. change in the water contact angle cannot be rationalized in terms of the overall change in the surfacestructure of carbon-contaminated $TiO_2$. In the C 1s spectra, we found that the C-O and C=O contents gradually increased with increasing e-beam energy, suggesting that the change in the surface structure of carbon layers can be important for understanding of the wettability change. Our results imply that the degree of oxidation of carbon impurity layers on oxide surfaces should be considered, in order to fully understand the change in the oxide surface wettability.
Lonicera caerulea (Honey berry, HB) has been used in medical treatment in Russia, Japan, China and Korea. It has high level of vitamin C and polyphenolics. Polyphenolics can improve anti-inflammatory effect and prevent cancer, diabetes mellitus type 2. Also, Vitamin C is a representative anti-oxidant. however, it is still unknown what effect it will have on the oxidation stress of the reproductive system. In previous studies, ROS can be produced when it is exposed to heat stress and has negative effect on sperm's maturation, capacitation, hyperactivation, acrosome reaction and fusion of egg and sperm. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the antioxidant effects of L. Caerulea on the sperm and mice. At first, it conducted using ICR mouse (n = 20) for 4 weeks. There are four groups of mice (n = 5 per group). Also, L. Caerulea was taken by oral gavage. Group I (control) kept at 23℃-27℃ and administer D.W (0.5 mL/day), Likewise, Group II (HB) kept at room temperature but gave HB (250 mg/kg, 0.5 mL/day), Group III (HB + HS) received heat stress (40℃) using hyperthermia induction chamber and gave HB at same dose. and Group IV (HS) exposed heat stress only. Mainly, we showed degree of gene expression using Western blot in SOD, HSP 70, 17β-HSD and Real-time PCR. It can find correlation between intracellular activity like steroid hormone, apoptosis under ROS and antioxidant activity of L. Caerulea.
The most important element upon the quality of family glass products is the color of glass, which is the first object of consumers concern in purchasing. Therefore, colorless and transparent color tone can level up the additional value of the products. But we have produced the glass products in a large quantity by using the automatic tank brazier, chronic problem has been left over the color tone. By compounding and analizing the management techniques applied by peculiar technique and design of experiments pertinently, and by adjusting the decoloring composition ratio, we can contribute to improvement of color tone as well as to the cost reduction by diminishing the unnecessary decoloring agent. Intangible effect was the securing the superiority of quality home and abroad with the improvement of color tone and was taking a triangular position the factors influencing the glass decoloring which had been an unexhausted field. Tangible effect was the reduction of decoloring cost by diminishing the unnecessary oxidant. We registered the optimal composition ratio condition which was searched by applicating the design of experiments. To maintain good color tone, we manage the degree of purity, the most important thing among the items of color tone, continuously by control chart and it has maintained steady state now.
In contrast to AC grounding systems, the ground electrode in DC systems continuously maintains positive or negative polarity. Ground electrodes with (+) polarity proceeds by oxidation reaction. Thus, the DC current should flow opposite to the polarity of the leakage current flowing through the (+) ground electrode by using a compensation electrode, and the current flowing through the (+) ground electrode can be 0A. However, according to protecting the (+) ground electrode, the compensation electrode corrodes and gets damaged. Thus, the (+) ground electrode must be protected from corrosion, and the service life of the compensation electrode must be extended. As an alternative, the average value of the current flowing through the compensation electrode should be equal with the value of the leakage current flowing through the (+) ground electrode by using the square waveform. Throughout the experiment, the degree of corrosion on the compensation electrode is analyzed by the frequency of the compensation electrode for a certain time. In the experiment, the frequencies of the square waveform are considered for 0.1, 1, 10, 20, 50, 100 Hz, and 1 kHz. Through experiments and analysis, the optimal frequency for reducing the electrolytic damage of the (+) electrode and compensation electrode in an LVDC grounding environment is determined.
Dried samples of Ligustrum japonicum were extracted twice: with methylene chloride and with methanol (MeOH), respectively. The combined crude extracts were successively fractionated into n-hexane, 85% aqueous methanol (85% aq.MeOH), n-butanol (n-BuOH), and water fractions by liquid-liquid partition. Antioxidant activities of crude extract and its solvent fractions were evaluated by measuring authentic $ONOO^-$, and $ONOO^-$ generated from 3-morpholinsydnonimine (SIN-1) as well as degree of occurrence of intracellular ROS in HT 1080 cells, and genomic DNA oxidation. The 85% aq.MeOH and n-BuOH fractions exhibited the good antioxidant activity. Further purification of the 85% aq.MeOH fracition led to the isolation of Oleanolic acid (1), Maslinic acid (2), and Ursolic acid (3). All compounds showed the significant antioxidant effects in all assay systems.
Experimental measurements of flame structure and soot characteristics were performed fur ethene inverse diffusion flames (IDF). IDF has been considered as the excellent flow field to study the incipient soot because soot particle do not experience the oxidation process. In this study, LIF image clarified the reaction zone of IDF with OH signal and PAH distribution. laser light scattering technique also identified the being of soot particle. To address the degree of soot maturing, C/H ratio and morphology of soot sample were investigated. From these measurements, the effect of flow residence time and temperature on soot inception could be suggested, and more details on soot characteristic in the IDF was determined according to fuel dilution and flame condition. The fuel dilution results in a decrease of temperature and enhancement of residence time, but the critical dilution mole fraction is existed for temperature not to effect on soot growth. Also, the soot inception evolved on the specific temperature and its morphology are independent of the fuel dilution ratio of fuel.
In this study, we fabricated effect of storage conditions on graft of polypropylene (PP) non-woven fabric induced by electron beam. The electron beam irradiations on PP non-woven fabric were carried out over a range of irradiation doses from 25 to 100 kGy to make free radicals on fabric surface. The radical measurement was established by electron spin resonance (ESR) for confirming the changes of the alkyl radical and peroxy radical according to effect of storage time, storage temperature and atmosphere. It was observed that the free radicals were increased with irradiation dose and decreased with storage time due to the continuous oxidation. However, the radical extinction was significantly delayed due to reduced mobility of radicals at extremely low temperature. The degree of graft based on the analysis of ESR was investigated. The conditions of graft reaction were set at a temperature: $60^{\circ}C$, reaction time: 6 hours and styrene monomer concentration: 20 wt%.
The effects of cooking method (grilling, frying, steaming, and microwaving) on the proximate composition and protein quality of chub mackerel Scomber japonicus treated with 2, 6, and 10% sodium chloride (NaCl) brine were investigated. Moisture content decreased in all cooked samples from 60.22% in the raw sample to 48.7% in the fried samples. Brine (10% NaCl) treatment recorded the highest moisture loss. All cooked samples showed a decrease in fat content, except fried samples. Protein content increased in all cooked samples, from 47.21% in the raw sample to 63.87% in the grilled sample. Brine treatment resulted in the highest degree of fat oxidation (thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances), which was highest in the fried samples and lowest in the microwaved samples. The trypsin inhibitor (TI) concentration was highest in the microwaved samples and lowest in the fried samples. In all samples, 6% salt treatment caused the lowest TI level and the highest in vitro protein digestibility. In vitro digestibility increased from 79.4% in the raw sample to 86.43% in the fried samples. The total essential amino acids of all cooked samples increased. Results suggested that grilling and steaming had beneficial effects on the protein quality of chub mackerel.
