A Personal Digital Library on a Distributed Mobile Multiagents Platform (분산 모바일 멀티에이전트 플랫폼을 이용한 사용자 기반 디지털 라이브러리 구축)

  • When digital libraries are developed by the traditional client/sever system using a single agent on the distributed environment, several problems occur. First, as the search method is one dimensional, the search results have little relationship to each other. Second, the results do not reflect the user's preference. Third, whenever a client connects to the server, users have to receive the certification. Therefore, the retrieval of documents is less efficient causing dissatisfaction with the system. I propose a new platform of mobile multiagents for a personal digital library to overcome these problems. To develop this new platform I combine the existing DECAF multiagents platform with the Voyager mobile ORB and propose a new negotiation algorithm and scheduling algorithm. Although there has been some research for a personal digital library, I believe there have been few studies on their integration and systemization. For searches of related information, the proposed platform could increase the relationship of search results by subdividing the related documents, which are classified by a supervised neural network. For the user's preference, as some modular clients are applied to a neural network, the search results are optimized. By combining a mobile and multiagents platform a new mobile, multiagents platform is developed in order to decrease a network burden. Furthermore, a new negotiation algorithm and a scheduling algorithm are activated for the effectiveness of PDS. The results of the simulation demonstrate that as the number of servers and agents are increased, the search time for PDS decreases while the degree of the user's satisfaction is four times greater than with the C/S model.

A Study on Actual Usage of Information Systems: Focusing on System Quality of Mobile Service (정보시스템의 실제 이용에 대한 연구: 모바일 서비스 시스템 품질을 중심으로)

  • Information systems (IS) have become ubiquitous and changed every aspect of how people live their lives. While some IS have been successfully adopted and widely used, others have failed to be adopted and crowded out in spite of remarkable progress in technologies. Both the technology acceptance model (TAM) and the IS Success Model (ISSM), among many others, have contributed to explain the reasons of success as well as failure in IS adoption and usage. While the TAM suggests that intention to use and perceived usefulness lead to actual IS usage, the ISSM indicates that information quality, system quality, and service quality affect IS usage and user satisfaction. Upon literature review, however, we found a significant void in theoretical development and its applications that employ either of the two models, and we raise research questions. First of all, in spite of the causal relationship between intention to use and actual usage, in most previous studies, only intention to use was employed as a dependent variable without overt explaining its relationship with actual usage. Moreover, even in a few studies that employed actual IS usage as a dependent variable, the degree of actual usage was measured based on users' perceptual responses to survey questionnaires. However, the measurement of actual usage based on survey responses might not be 'actual' usage in a strict sense that responders' perception may be distorted due to their selective perceptions or stereotypes. By the same token, the degree of system quality that IS users perceive might not be 'real' quality as well. This study seeks to fill this void by measuring the variables of actual usage and system quality using 'fact' data such as system logs and specifications of users' information and communications technology (ICT) devices. More specifically, we propose an integrated research model that bring together the TAM and the ISSM. The integrated model is composed of both the variables that are to be measured using fact as well as survey data. By employing the integrated model, we expect to reveal the difference between real and perceived degree of system quality, and to investigate the relationship between the perception-based measure of intention to use and the fact-based measure of actual usage. Furthermore, we also aim to add empirical findings on the general research question: what factors influence actual IS usage and how? In order to address the research question and to examine the research model, we selected a mobile campus application (MCA). We collected both fact data and survey data. For fact data, we retrieved them from the system logs such information as menu usage counts, user's device performance, display size, and operating system revision version number. At the same time, we conducted a survey among university students who use an MCA, and collected 180 valid responses. A partial least square (PLS) method was employed to validate our research model. Among nine hypotheses developed, we found five were supported while four were not. In detail, the relationships between (1) perceived system quality and perceived usefulness, (2) perceived system quality and perceived intention to use, (3) perceived usefulness and perceived intention to use, (4) quality of device platform and actual IS usage, and (5) perceived intention to use and actual IS usage were found to be significant. In comparison, the relationships between (1) quality of device platform and perceived system quality, (2) quality of device platform and perceived usefulness, (3) quality of device platform and perceived intention to use, and (4) perceived system quality and actual IS usage were not significant. The results of the study reveal notable differences from those of previous studies. First, although perceived intention to use shows a positive effect on actual IS usage, its explanatory power is very weak ($R^2$=0.064). Second, fact-based system quality (quality of user's device platform) shows a direct impact on actual IS usage without the mediating role of intention to use. Lastly, the relationships between perceived system quality (perception-based system quality) and other constructs show completely different results from those between quality of device platform (fact-based system quality) and other constructs. In the post-hoc analysis, IS users' past behavior was additionally included in the research model to further investigate the cause of such a low explanatory power of actual IS usage. The results show that past IS usage has a strong positive effect on current IS usage while intention to use does not have, implying that IS usage has already become a habitual behavior. This study provides the following several implications. First, we verify that fact-based data (i.e., system logs of real usage records) are more likely to reflect IS users' actual usage than perception-based data. In addition, by identifying the direct impact of quality of device platform on actual IS usage (without any mediating roles of attitude or intention), this study triggers further research on other potential factors that may directly influence actual IS usage. Furthermore, the results of the study provide practical strategic implications that organizations equipped with high-quality systems may directly expect high level of system usage.

  • The purpose of this study were : 1) to examine the apparel product purchasing tendency of PC communication and internet users in home shopping 2) to analyze the difference of apparel product purchasing tendency accordint to consumer factors. The data was administered to 160 subjects who had communicated the PC communication and internet. And the data was collected from May through August in 1998. They received a purchase offer through catalog PC communication and internet cable TV and paid out credit card Experience to purchasing apparel product of home shopping was very low but intention to purchasing was relative high. item that consumer wanted to buy using home shopping were casual clothing and fashion goods which were not important to fit and without regard to style. 2) Between purchasing apparel product of home shopping and mainly consideration factors were shown to have the significant differences according to age residential quarters whether or not marriage. income level. A metropolitan area dwellers the low-age unmarried and the low-income groups thought much of convenience shopping time and effort's saving. A person of the higher-income and the married thought much of the facility of an exchange or returned goods. A region dwellers were to purchase a speciality product or gift goods. 3) Between purchasing apparel product of home shopping and satisfaction degree were shown to have significant differences according to sex whether or not marriage education level an occupation. The woman than the man was satisfied with the benefit of the shopping time and effort's saving. And the unmarried than the married was satisfied with the benefit of the home shopping's convenience. The higher-education level than the lower-education level was satisfied with the quality guarantee of the product.

Health Care Utilization of Pediatrics Outpatients in the Oriental Hospital (대전대학교(大田大學校) 부속(附屬) 한방병원(韓方病院) 소아과(小兒科)에 내원(來院)한 환자(患者)에 대한 실태(實態) 분석(分析))

  • Objectives : The aim of this study was to investigate the attitude toward the oriental hospital among 100 pediatric outpatients. Methods : A questionnaire about the general characteristics of patients. the reason of choice or alteration was implemented. Results : 1. In distribution of sex & age, 60% was men and 40% women was between 2 and 6 years old. 2. In determinant factor for using Oriental medicine, 43.8% was tolerance increase of the western medicine and 33.0% was recommened by others. 3. In distribution of disease & therapeutic method, 62.5% was respiratory disease and 11.7% gastrointestinal disease, 64.3% was treated with oriental after Western medical therapy and 20.9% only Oriental medical care. 4. The changing causes for using Oriental after Western medicine, 35.9% was ineffective affect and 26.5% side effect. 5. The preference for using Oriental medicine, 41.6% was respiratory disease and 21.0% gastrointestinal disease. 6. The peculiarity of Oriental medicine compared with western medicine, 36% was effectiveness on the cronic disease and 14% for fundamental remedy. 7. The prodominance disease in Western medicine compared with Oriental medicine, 28% was operation, 18% common cold and 15% inflammatory disease 8. The questions about Oriental medicine, 22% was medical material's sanitation and place of origin, 18% harmness or not administered during long time. 9. The controversial point of Oriental medicine, 33.5% was expensive price and 27.7% difficulty of taking medicine. 10. In satisfaction degree of Oriental medicine, 69% was satisfied and 19% was very satisfied. Conclusions : Considering the above results, we have concluded that proper recognition about Oriental Pediatric medicine will be needed among patients.

  • QoS(Quality of Service) is defined "The collective effect of service performance which determines the degree of satisfaction of a user of the service" by ITU-T Rec. E.800. The final goal of information system is to secure the performance efficiency within the required time. The security QoS framework is the modeling of the QoS measurement metrics, the measurement time schedule, instrument, method of measurement and the series of methodology about analysis of the result of measurement. This paper relates to implementing issue and performance measuring about blended mechanism between networking technology and security technology. We got more effectiveness in overall network security, when applying and composing amalgamated security mechanism between network technology and security technology. In this paper, we suggest techniques being used on infrastructure system and also offers a security QoS methodology as a model of more effective way. Methodology proposed in this research has proven that it is possible to measure response time through the scheduled method.

The effect of 'Optimal Solution' factor in utility of online sandbox game (옵티멀솔루션 요소가 온라인 샌드박스 게임효용성에 미치는 영향)

  • Sandbox game users can double their satisfaction by re-creating a variety of play patterns. This creative process is due to the expansion of play through 'customizing' and 'action autonomy'. The purpose of this study is to investigate the structural limitations of freedom of online game. In a standalone game, the scalability due to the degree of freedom gives the user a strong motivation for world persistence. On the other hand, in online sandbox games such as MMORPG, it is confirmed that the goal-oriented tendency to gain advantage is the inherent limit of the freedom and expandability of the sandbox game. In this study, it is suggested that the cause and limit of growth of online-based sandbox game can be offset by the optimal solution factor.

  • We are developing asset management information systems to introduce the preventive/proactive approach at operation and management (O&M) of infrastructures. The objective of this study is to explore the future direction for development and operation of asset management information systems. So, we developed the success model and selected the evaluation criteria for analyzing user satisfaction to assess the expected performance of asset management information systems and the degree of impact on asset management functions to operation and management of highway transportation facilities. We estimated the relative importance weight according to the selected evaluation criteria through AHP analysis. We verified the logical consistency of the importance weight and exclude biased outlier from importance weight group using the concept of the Compatibility.

A Utility-Based and QoS-Aware Power Control Scheme for Wireless Body Area Networks

  • Power control is widely used to reduce co-channel interference in wireless networks and guarantee the signal-to-interference plus noise ratio (SINR) of ongoing connections. This technique is also effective for wireless body area networks (WBANs). Although achieving satisfactory SINR is important for WBAN users, they may not be willing to achieve it at arbitrarily high power levels since power is a scarce resource in WBANs. Besides, for WBANs with different purposes, the QoS requirements and concern about the power consumption may be different. This motivates us to formulate the power control problem using the concepts from microeconomics and game theory. In this paper, the QoS objective is viewed as a utility function, which represents the degree of user satisfaction, while the power consumption is viewed as a cost function. The power control problem consequently becomes a non-cooperative multiplayer game, in which each player tries to maximize its net utility, i.e., the utility minus the cost. Within this framework, we investigate the Nash equilibrium existence and uniqueness in the game and derive the best response solution to reach the Nash equilibrium. To obtain the optimal transmission power in a distributed way, we further propose a utility-based and QoS-aware power control algorithm (UQoS-PCA). Tunable cost coefficient in UQoS-PCA enables this scheme to be flexible to satisfy diverse service requirements. Simulation results show the convergence and effectiveness of the proposed scheme as well as improvements over existing algorithm.

Automatic Information Extraction for Structured Web Documents (구조화된 웹 문서에 대한 자동 정보추출)

  • This paper proposes the web information extraction system that extracts the pre-defined information automatically from web documents (i.e, HTML documents) and integrates the extracted information, The system recognizes entities without lables by the probabilistic based entity recognition method and extends the existing domain knowledge semiautomatically by using the extracted data, Moreover, the system extracts the sub-linked information linked to the basic page and integrates the similar results extracted from heterogeneous sources, The experimental result shows that the system extracts the sub-linked information and uses the probabilistic based entity recognition enhances the precision significantly against the system using only the domain knowledge, Moreover, the presented system can the more various information precisely due to applying the system with flexibleness according to domains, Because bath the semiautomatic domain knowledge expansion and the probabilistic based entity recognition improve the quality of the information, the system can increase the degree of user satisfaction at its maximum. Thus, this system can satisfy the intellectual curiosity of users from movie sites, performance sites, and dining room sites, We can construct various comparison shopping mall and contribute the revitalization of e-business.

  • Social network service is service that enables the human network to be built up on web. It is important to record users' information simply and establish the network with people based on the information to provide with the social network service effectively. But it is very troublesome work for the user to input his or her own information on the mobile environment. In this paper we suggested a system which classifies users' behavior using context and creates blogging sentences automatically after inferring the destination. For this, users' behavior is classified and the destination is inferred with the sequence matching method using Naive Bayes classification. Then sentences which are suitable for situation is created by arranging the processed context using the structure of 5W1H. The system was evaluated satisfaction degree by comparing the created sentences based on actually collected data with users' intension and got accuracy rate of 88.73%.
