  • An adaptive framework paradigm where the bandwidth values of the ongoing calls vary according to the trafficsituations is one of the promising concepts for overcoming poor resource conditions due to handoffs in mobilecellular networks. However, quantifying the level of bandwidth degradation of the ongoing calls in an adaptiveframework is important in view of Quality of Service (QoS) Provisioning. Therefore we introduce new QoSparameters, the Degradation Degree Ratio (DDR), which represents the average portion of the degradationdegree during degradation pehod of a call, and the Degradation Area Ratio (DAR), which represents the averageratio of a call's degradation level considering both the period and the degree of degradation jointly in multi-levelbandwidth service. We also develop a new analytical model for estimating the QoS measures such as theDegradation Pehod Ratio (DPR), DDR and DAR. We show how to calculate the QoS measures and illustrate themethod by numerical examples. The proposed model can be used to determine the optimal parameter of theCAC scheme and analyze the sensitivity ofthe QoS parameters in adaptive networks.

  • A low-cycle loading experiment of 16 transfer column specimens was conducted to study the influence of parameters, likes the extension length of shape steel, the ratio of shape steel, the axial compression ratio and the volumetric ratio of stirrups, on the shear distribution between steel and concrete, the concrete damage state and the degradation of lateral stiffness. Shear force of shape steel reacted at the core area of concrete section and led to tension effect which accelerated the damage of concrete. At the same time, the damage of concrete diminished its shear capacity and resulted in the shear enlargement of shape steel. The interplay between concrete damage and shear force of shape steel ultimately made for the failures of transfer columns. With the increase of extension length, the lateral stiffness first increases and then decreases, but the stiffness degradation gets faster; With the increase of steel ratio, the lateral stiffness remains the same, but the degradation gets faster; With the increase of the axial compression ratio, the lateral stiffness increases, and the degradation is more significant. Using more stirrups can effectively restrain the development of cracks and increase the lateral stiffness at the yielding point. Also, a formula for calculating the yielding lateral stiffness is obtained by a regression analysis of the test data.

  • This paper demonstrates that it is feasible to evaluate forest degradation and to detect deforestation in the 8156$km^2$ study area affected by expand farming using vegetation indices derived from Landsat TM data. The NDVI-growing stock relation was applied on th Landsat TM data and a 3 second grid DEM, whose coverages could improve the assessment of forest degradation and also estimate the rate of change of forest cover area depending on elevation intervals. The strength of the relationship between the ratio of the greenness and brightness indices and forest degradation conditions would have been more interesting in the deforested areas which were converted to crop farming land.

  • Titanate nanotubes (TNTs) were synthesized via alkaline hydrothermal treatment using commercial TiO2 nanoparticles (P25). The TNTs were prepared at various TiO2/NaOH ratios, hydrothermal temperatures, and hydrothermal times. The synthesized catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction, field-emission scanning electron microscopy, N2 adsorption-desorption isotherms, field-emission transmission electron microscopy, and ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy. TNTs were generated upon a decrease in the TiO2/NaOH ratio due to the dissolution of TiO2 in the alkaline solution and the generation of new Ti-O-Ti bonds to form titanate nanoplates and nanotubes. The hydrothermal treatment temperature and time were important factors for promoting the nucleation and growth of TNTs. The TNT catalyst with the largest surface area (389.32 m2 g-1) was obtained with a TiO2/NaOH ratio of 0.25, a hydrothermal treatment temperature of 130 ℃, and a hydrothermal treatment time of 36 h. Additionally, we investigated the photocatalytic activity of methyl violet 2B (MV) over the TNT catalysts under UV irradiation and found that the degradation efficiencies of the TNTs were higher than that of P25. Among the TNT catalysts, the TNT catalyst that was hydrothermally synthesized for 36 h (TNT 36 h) exhibited a 96.9% degradation efficiency and a degradation rate constant that was 4.8 times higher than P25 due to its large surface area, which allowed for more contact between the MV molecules and TNT surfaces and facilitated rapid electron transfer. Finally, these results were correlated with the specific surface area.

  • It was attempted to evaluate the degree of degradation of thermally aged 2.25-1Mo steek by ultrasonic monlinear parameter(UNP) measurement and X-ray diffraction analysis of extracted carbide. Artificial aging was performed to simulate the microstructural degradation in 2.25Cr-1Mo steel arising from long time exposure at $540{\circ}C$. Microstructural analysis (number of carbides per unit area) and measurements of mechanical properties(Vickers hardness, DBTT) and degradation evaluation parameters(UNP and intensity ration of X-ray diffraction peak of electrolytically extracted carbide) were performed. Both of UNP and intensity ratio of X-ray diffraction peak for M6C carbide to that of M23C6 carbide(IR) increased abruptly in the initial 1000 hour of aging and then changed little. UNP and IR were proposed as potential parameters to evaluate the degree of aging degradation of 2.25Cr-1Mo steel.

  • An aqueous solution of a commercial liquid synthetic detergent for kitchen use was photodecomposed in the presence of titanium dioxides powder under an atmosphere of air at room temperature. Titanium dioxides were prepared by sol-gel method from titanium iso-propoxide at different R ratio($H_2O$/titanium iso-propoxide) and calcined at $500^{\circ}C$. All titanium dioxides were characterized by XRD, BET surface area analyzer and UV-VIS spectrometer. The surface area of titanium dioxides prepared at R ratio=6 appeared higher volume about 20% than commercial $TiO_2$ catalysts. XRD patterns of titania particles were observed mixing phase together with rutile and anatase type. Titanium dioxides prepared by sol-gel method show higher activity about 6% than commercial $TiO_2$ catalysts on the photocatalytic degradation of a commercial liquid synthetic detergent for kitchen. The concentration of the detergent decreased to about 90% of its initial value at illumination times of 2 hour. Illumination for 30 minutes decreased the concentration of oxygen to about one-fifth of the initial value.

  • Photocatalytic degradation of phenol was carried out with UV-illuminated TiO$_2$-SiO$_2$ in aqueous suspension. TiO$_2$-SiO$_2$ catalysts were prepared by sol-gel method from the titanium isopropoxide and tetraethylorthosilicate at different Ti/Si ratio and some commercial TiO$_2$ catalysts were used as purchased. All catalysts were characterized by X-ray Diffraction(XRD) and BET surface area analyzer. The effect of reaction conditions, such as initial concentration of phenol, reaction temperature and catalyst weight on the photocatalytic activity was studied. In addition, TiO$_2$-SiO$_2$(49: 1) prepared by sol-gel method showed higher activity than commercial TiO$_2$catalysts on the photocatalytic degradation of phenol. The addition of SiO$_2$ into TiO$_2$hepled to increase the thermal stability of titania which suppressed the formation of anatase into rutile. The photocatalytic degradation of phenol showed pseudo-1st order reaction and the degradation rate increases with decreasing initial phenol concentration.

  • The degradation of a boiler header constructed by a material, 1Cr-0.5Mo steel in a fossil power plant is observed when the header is exposed for a long period to the high temperature and pressure. The present investigations are for evaluating the effect of the degradation on the material, such as its strength changes. Reheat-treated metal is used to compare the mechanical properties of the degraded and that of reheat-treated materials. Through the investigation, following results are obtained 1) the area ratio of ferrite in the reheat-treated material is larger than that of the degraded material, 2) the hardness and tensile strength of the degraded material are lower than that of the reheat-treated material, 3) the ductile-brittle transition temperature(DBTT) increased toward high temperature region, 4) the fatigue crack growth rate(FCGR) of the degraded material is higher than that of the reheat-treated material in the region of low ΔK value while FCGR of the both materials are similar in high ΔK region.

  • The most common pipe wall thinning degradation mechanisms that can occur in the steam and feedwater systems are FAC (Flow Acceleration Corrosion), cavitation, flashing, and LDIE (Liquid Droplet Impingement Erosion). Among those degradation mechanisms, FAC has been investigated by many laboratories and industries. Cavitation and flashing are also protected on the piping design phase. LDIE has mainly investigated in aviation industry and turbine blade manufactures. On the other hand, LDIE has been little studied in NPP (Nuclear Power Plant) industry. This paper presents the development of prediction system for pipe wall thinning caused by LDIE in terms of erosion rate based on air-water ratio and material. Experiment is conducted in 3 cases of air-water ratio 0.79, 1.00, and 1.72 using the three types of the materials of A106B, SS400, and A6061. The main control parameter is the air-water ratio which is defined as the volumetric ratio of water to air (0.79, 1.00, 1.72). The experiments were performed for 15 days, and the surface morphology and hardness of the materials were examined for every 5 days. Since the spraying velocity (v) of liquid droplets and their contact area ($A_c$) on specimens are changed according to the air-water ratio, we analyzed the behavior of LDIE for the materials. Finally, the prediction equations(i.e. erosion rate) for LDIE of the materials were determined in the range of the air-water ratio from 0 to 2%.

  • The objective of this study is to develop a prediction model of specific degradation using data mining classification especially for the rivers in South Korea river. A number of critical predictors such as erosion and sediment transport were extracted for the prediction model considering watershed morphometric characteristics, rainfall, land cover, land use, and bed material. The suggested model includes the elevations at the mid relative area of the hypsometric curve of watershed morphomeric characteristics, the urbanization ratio, and the wetland and water ratio of land cover factors as the condition factors. The proposed model describes well the measured specific degradation of the rivers in South Korea. In addition, the development model was compared with the existing models, since the existing models based on different conditions and purposes show low predictability, they have a limit about the application of Korean River. Therefore, this study is focusing on improving the applicability of the existing model
