과냉각 액체 영역에서의 변형거동을 이용한 벌크 비정질 합금의 미세성형 기술 개발 (Micro Forming of Bulk Metallic Glass using the Deformation Behavior in the Supercooled Liquid Region)

  • Recently, various bulk metallic glasses (BMG's) having good mechanical and chemical properties were developed. BMG's can easily be deformed in the supercooled liquid region, via viscous flow mechanism. By using the viscous flow, the very low pressure is needed to deform the materials. In this study, we investigated the structural transition and deformation behavior of Vitreloy 1 (Zr/sub 41.2/Ti/sub 13.8/Cu/sub 12.5/Ni/sub 10/Be/sub 22.5/) using TMA and DSC. We applied the results to the micro forming process. The forming condition was chosen based on the viscosity data from TMA, and Si wafer with micro patterns on the surface was used as a forming die. The deformed surface was analyzed by SEM and 3D Surface Profiling System. The alloy showed good replication of the patterns. Quantitative measurement of roughness was useful to evaluate the replication. Surface condition of the deformed surface was determined by the initial surface condition.

알루미늄 판재의 전기저항가열 압출점접합공정에 있어서 핀의 높이가 접합강도에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Effect of Pin Height on Weld Strength in Extru-Rivet Spot Welding of Aluminum Plates)

  • It is difficult to control welding variables during spot welding of non-ferrous metals like aluminum because of the low electrical resistance of the material. It has been suggested that a solid state welding process such as friction stir spot welding or extru-spot welding can be used to spot weld aluminum plates. In the extru-spot welding, there is a need to increase the weld strength by improving the shape of the welding die. The current study shows that the weld strength for an extru-spot welding can be increased by using a pin placed on the inside of the upper electrode in the welding die. In the current study, the deformed shape of the insert rivet and the stress distribution in the welding zone were analyzed by simulation. Extru-rivet spot welding experiments were performed by changing the height of pin on the inside of the upper electrode. From the experimental result, it is shown that the weld strength for an extru-rivet spot welding can be increased by adjusting the height of the pin. The optimal shape of the deformed rivet after the extru-rivet spot welding can be observed from the simulation results. The deformed shape of the insert rivet can also be controlled by the height of pin.

금형압축 하에서 구리/철 이종재료 분말의 치밀화 거동 (Densification Behavior of Dissimilar Material Powder during Die Compaction)

  • Densification behavior of dissimilar material powder (copper and pure iron powder) under die compaction was investigated. Experimental data were obtained for copper and pure iron powder compacts with various volume ratios under die compaction. Dissimilar material powder was simultaneously compacted into a jointed cylindrical compact with different powder materials in inner and outer part, respectively. To simulate densification behavior of dissimilar material powder, elastoplastic constitutive equation proposed by Shima and Oyane was implemented into a finite element program (ABAQUS) under die compaction. Finite element results were compared with experimental data for densification, deformed geometry and density distribution of powder compacts under die compaction.

대형 디스플레이용 플레임의 코너 고정용 브라켓의 뒤틀림 보정에 관한 연구 (A study on torsion correction of corner fixing bracket for large display frame)

  • In this paper, the method of improving the flatness and perpendicularity for a corner fixing bracket of the large display frame is studied through experiments. Three specimens were tested, one specimen not subjected to bending line before bending, and two specimens with a straight groove with 0.2 mm and 0.5 mm depth. Experimental results show that the flatness of bracket becomes worse with deeper depth. When there is no straight groove, the perpendicularity becomes worse. For the flatness correction, a restriking process was added. The twist of bracket was corrected by performing the restriking with a curvature larger than the twist amount in the direction opposite to the deformed direction. We also found that the perpendicularity is maintained regardless of the amount of curvature with the restriking process.

  • 다양한 종류의 제품을 생산하는 프레스금형의 부품 중에서 펀치와 다이플레이트를 제작하는데 주로 W-EDM을 이용한다. W-EDM전에는 기계가공으로 제작된 펀치와 다이플레이트로 제품을 생산하게 되면 생산량이 200만~230만개를 생산하고 금형수명을 다하였다. 그러나 W-EDM으로 제작된 금형으로 제품을 생산하게 되면 생산수량이 70만~80만개를 생산하고 금형수명이 다하였다. 이것은 W-EDM한 후에 발생되는 가공변질층에 기인하는 것으로 사료되므로 W-EDM전과 W-EDM후의 가공면에 대한 SEM촬영을 실시하여 가공변질층의 발생을 확인하고 이에 대한 제거 방법을 연구하였다.

  • Recently, various bulk metallic glasses (BMG's) haying good mechanical and chemical properties were developed. BMG's can easily be deformed in the supercooled liquid region, via viscous flow mechanism. In our previous work, we evaluated the deformation behavior and some other basic properties of Z $r_{41.2}$ $Ti_{13.8}$C $u_{12.5}$N $i_{10}$B $e_{22.5}$ alloy. In this study, we investigated the micro forming of Z $r_{41.2}$ $Ti_{13.8}$C $u_{12.5}$N $i_{10}$B $e_{22.5}$ alloy. The process condition was chosen based on the viscosity data from TMA, and superalloy and Si wafer with micro patterns on the surface were used as forming die. The alloy showed good replication of the patterns. However, some stripe patterns, resembling scratches, appeared on the deformed alloy surface. These scratches can be reduced or eliminated by polishing before forming.ing.ore forming.ing.

  • There has been a number of investigations in recent years reporting the results obtained on the structure and properties of metals deformed to severe plastic deformation (SPD). Being deformed to SPD, ultra-fine grains (UFG) are usually formed, and UFG structure exhibits fundamental differences in original physical properties. One method often used to obtain SPD is equal channel angular pressing (ECAP). In order for this technique to be exploited, it is important to understand the deformation behavior during the ECAP processing and relationship to the configuration of die. The finite element method (FEM) has been used to investigate this issue. It has been found that the plastic deformation is sensitive to the channel angle and material properties and is not uniform across the width of the specimen and the pressing load is relative to deformation during the ECAP processing.

전단-신선 가공된 6063 알루미늄 합금의 변형거동 (Deformation Behavior of 6063 Al Alloy Deformed by Shear-Drawing Method)

  • This work investigated the microstructure and mechanical properties of 6063 Al alloy fabricated by shear-drawing (SD) technique where shear and drawing strains were combined together within a predetermined die. To find the optimum condition for sound deformation, three different dies having different inner angle and diameter of the exit channel were prepared. After single deformation of the present sample, the sound deformation took place without an abrupt failure of the sample if the inner angle would be greater than $135^{\circ}$ in this study, when the channel diameter of the SD die was reduced from 10 to 9 mm. Microstructural observation showed that the inner angle of $135^{\circ}$ was found to be more effective than that of $150^{\circ}$ in terms of the alignment of each grain to the shear direction imposed by SD method. In addition, the yield strength of the SD-deformed sample was twice higher than that of the initial counterpart while loosing ductility in tension.

  • Unlike conventional single special cut methods, W-EDM is a combination of multiple-effects. This study focuses on the effects of second cut on the roughness of surfaces treated with W-EDM. W-EDM is, to a large extent, typical unmanned-machining equipment, which represents NC machining equipment that allows long-time full automation. W-EMD is getting popular as a precise machining technology and STD11 is frequently used in press die manufacture. In this study, the former is applied to the latter to look at the effects of second cut on the roughness of surfaces treated with W-EDM.

  • During the deep drawing process an initially flat blank is clamped between the die and the blank holder after which the punch moves down to deform the clamped blank into the desired shape. In general, sheet metal forming may involve stretching, drawing, bending or various combinations of those basic modes of deformation. The deformation problems of sheet metal working involve non-linearity in geometry and material. In this work, The punch load and thickness strain of electro-galvanized sheet steel (SECD) for elliptical deep drawing are examined under the various process conditions including, punch shape radius, die shape radius. The changes of punch load and thickness strain distribution of the deformed elliptical cup are affected by the size of each die shape radius.
