  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the influencing factors of prevention practices against infection exposure among emergency medical technicians (EMTs) in emergency rooms. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was filled out by 100 EMTs in emergency rooms from June 1 to August 31, 2017. The questionnaire consisted of items concerning the defensive environment for the prevention of infection exposure, perception of preventive behavior, and degree of performance of preventive actions against infection based on a five-point Likert scale. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, ${\chi}^2$ test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and linear regression. Results: The defensive environment for the prevention of infection exposure was 4.12. The perception of preventive action was 4.71, and the degree of performance of preventive actions against infection was 4.54. There was a significant relationship between the degree of performance of preventive actions against infectious exposures and the degree of perception of preventive behavior(r=.506, p=.01) and prevention of infectious exposure(r=.506, p=.01). The protective environment(B=.360, t=3.236, p=.002) and perceived level (B=.904, t=4.662, p=.000) were influenced by the degree of prevention of infection exposure. Conclusion: It is important to manage the protection environment for infection exposure prevention and to enhance the awareness of infection prevention actions against infection exposure among the EMTs in emergency rooms.

  • Delinquency young people committed society as evolves is also increasing rapidly. Juvenile delinquency that occurred recently is serious. As a result, young people are feeling fear of delinquency. Fear of delinquency young people feel, a major impact on the personality development of the youth of the period of growth. In particular, the violent delinquency, to give a physical impact, damage youth receives is large. As well as physical damage to people in and around the juvenile victims, given the damage mental serious form, fear violent delinquency has been shown in many previous studies. Therefore, in this study you have the purpose to study the effects on the reaction of juvenile victims for fear of delinquency caused by the delinquency of violence. Set randomly on campus and external experience and damage directly or indirectly, are classified into action evasive action defensive reaction of fear by delinquency, factors that affect the risk caused by violent delinquency, Daegu after conducting a survey of high school students in general in the areas in which we tested the hypothesis. As a result of the verification, exerting a significant influence in order to act defensive becomes clear, experience of direct damage and experience of damage indirect fear of delinquency, avoided experience of direct damage it was found to exert a significant effect on to the action manner.

  • This study investigated the nature and dimensionality of the motives why employees showed the silence even though they could speak up their opinions. It aimed to develop the scales measuring employee silence. Thus, three studies were designed and particularly, two studies featured two different studies, totaling five studies. Study 1 conducted open-ended survey asking and 104 workers from a variety of work field answered. With the results of open-ended questions, a were developed, consisting of 60-items to measure employee silence motivation. Study 2 examined the scale developed and 481 workers from diverse work fields participated in. The exploratory factor and 'intra-ESEM' analyses were confirmed the construct of silence motivation, composing 5 factors(acquiescent, defensive, disengaged, opportunistic, relational silence) the 20-items was developed to measure the construct(Study 2-1). Furthermore, 'inter-ESEM' analysis was examined the discriminant validity of scale developed by the current study with general silence behavior and voice behavior. It found that the employee silence was distinguished from general silence behavior and voice behavior(Study 2-2). Study 3 was designed for validation of silence motivation scale which developed from Study 1 and Study 2. Based on these results, the implications and limitations of this study as well as the direction for future study were discussed.

  • A phenomenological methodology was used to identify the life of children living with alcoholic parents. Nine adolescents participated in the in-depth interviews, done between October and December 2001. The Colaizzi's method was used for data analysis. The results of this study are as follows. One theme and thirteen meanings were identified, The one theme is Paradoxical Coping in Life. The meanings are obsessive behavior as a way to control father's behavior, always on the defensive due to anxiety and tension, being afraid of life alone due to paranoid thoughts, contradictory expectations about father's drinking behavior due to life with chronic tension, stress becoming familiar and life being boring and tendious without stimulation, life that is fake and filled with misinterpretations about reality, affection sought from others due to loneliness, compensatory life within peer group, negative expectation about the future due to negative experiences, controling others to protect ego, denial of real emotion to protect self from hurt, life of regretting self, and strong need for approval from others. The results of this study can provide a foundation for the development of programs for children of alcohol dependent parents.

  • Bracing structures with off-centre bracing system is one of the new resistant systems that frequently used in the frame with pin connections. High ductility, high-energy dissipation and decrease of base shear are advantages of this bracing system. However, beside these advantages, reconstruction and hard repair of off-centre bracing system cause inappropriate performance in the earthquake. Therefore, in this paper, the goal is investigating the behavior of this type of bracing system with ductile element (circular dissipater), in order to providing replacement of damaged member without needing repair or reconstruction of the general system. To achieve this purpose, some numerical studies have been performed using ANSYS software, a frame with off-centre bracing system and optimum eccentricity (OBS-C-O) and another frame with the same identifications without ductile element (OBS) has been created. In order to investigate precisely on the optimum placement of circular elements under monotonic load again three steal frames were modeled. Furthermore, the behavior of this general system investigated for the first time, linear and nonlinear behavior of these two steel frames compared to each other, to achieve the benefit of using the circular element in an off-centre bracing system. Eventually, the analytical results revealed that the performance of steel ring at the end of off-centre braces system illustrating as a first defensive line and buckling fuse in the off-centre bracing system.

  • This study is about the impersonal behavior of the supervisor, which is the root cause of 'Workplace Harassment [bullying]', which becomes familiar to Korean workers. For the purpose of the study, characteristics of supervisors are classified into three situations such as personal situation (authoritarian propensity), organizational situation (job insecurity), and personal and organizational situation (self-defensive ambivalence). Then the effects of those propensities on the organizational commitment of their subordinating workers through abusive supervision were analyzed. To this end, separate surveys for team leader and team members were composed. The subjects were male and female workers in large enterprise in Korea. The major results of the study are as follows. First, the three predisposing factors related to the abusive supervision (authoritarianism, job insecurity, and self-defensive ambivalence) made positive (+) effects on the abusive supervision of the supervisor. Second, in the hypothesis 2 regarding the effects of the abusive supervision of the supervisor on the organizational commitment of the subordinates, it was found that the abusive supervision of the supervisor made negative (-) effects on the organizational commitment of the subordinates. Third, in the verification of the hypothesis 3 regarding the mediating effect of the abusive supervision, the three predisposing factors partially mediated the abusive supervision and made negative (-) effects on the organizational commitment of the subordinates.

  • The present study aimed to investigate the discrimination between employee voice and silence behavior in measurement: it is silence behavior the absence of voice or not? It was examined using confirmatory factor analysis. Five measurement models based on the suggestion of Pinder & Harlos(2001) and Van Dyne, Ang, & Botero(2003) were compared. Additionally, the hierarchical multiple regression analysis was conducted for examining the incremental validity of silence behaviors over voice. A total of 204 employees who worked with their own supervisor were surveyed. Results indicated that silence behavior could be a separate construct from voice. Findings also showed that silence behaviors could be distinguished by the level of concreteness in definition, difference in content of motivation and have the incremental validity over voice in only acquiescent Silence. From these results, the theoretical implications of findings, limitations, suggestions for future research were discussed in discussion.

  • Aging is defined as a collective process that alters organism's functional capacity and appearance over the course of life. Apart from an increase in susceptibility to many diseases, aging affects the cellular system that is responsible for decoding painful stimuli. Yet, aging-associated molecular mechanisms of pain perception remains elusive. Using Drosophila, we showed a decrease in temperature tolerance and a reduction in high temperature thermal avoidance with aging. Locomotor activity assay demonstrated that the age-dependent changes in heat nociception did not stem from the general decline in muscular activity. However, we identified pain-related gene expression alteration with aging. We anticipate that our findings would help opening a new window onto developing the optimal pain treatment for the elderly.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to explore and describe nurses' prejudice toward foreigners. Methods: The participants in the current study were 16 nurses who had worked in university hospitals. Data were collected using focus group interviews and an inductive content analysis was conducted with three focus groups. Results: The contents with regard to prejudice toward foreigners were categorized into three themes: prejudice formation, triggers of prejudice and prejudiced behaviors. The participants' prejudice toward foreigners as instigated by appearances, attitudes, or the national economic statuses of foreigners were added to the prejudice which had been formed previously. Prejudiced behaviors included discriminative attitudes, devotion withdrawal, defensive behavior, or derision. Conclusion: The findings of this study indicate that nurses may have positive or negative prejudices toward certain foreigners, which can affect their nursing practice. These findings also warrant the development of programs designed to increase awareness of and reduce nurses' prejudice toward foreigners.

  • While technological development being rapid, competition among companies have been very intensive over the world. To hold their competitive power or make sustainable development, it is very imperative for them to attempt innovation. But almost of all innovations were followed by people's resistance to change, and many innovation appeared to be not successful. The objective of this paper is to review the topic of resistance to change in the related literature, and look at the relationship between innovation resistance and many variables like CEO's personality, employee's personality, organizational culture, and defensive behavior.
