Probiotics, including Enterococcus faecium, confer a health benefit on the host. An Enterococcus strain was isolated from healthy chicken cecum, identified as E. faecium by 16S rDNA gene sequence analysis, and designated as E. faecium L11. To evaluate the potential of E. faecium L11 as a probiotic, the gastrointestinal tolerance, immunomodulatory activity, and lifespan extension properties of the strain were assayed. E. faecium L11 showed >66% and >62% survival in artificial gastric juice (0.3% pepsin, pH 2.5) and simulated small intestinal juice (0.5% bile salt and 0.1% pancreatin), respectively. Heat-killed E. faecium L11 significantly (p < 0.05) increased immune cell proliferation compared with controls, and stimulated the production of cytokines (IL-6 and $TNF-{\alpha}$) by activated macrophages obtained from ICR mice. In addition, E. faecium L11 showed a protective effect against Salmonella Typhimurium infection in Caenorhabditis elegans. In addition, feeding E. faecium L11 significantly (p < 0.05) extended the lifespan of C. elegans compared with the control. Furthermore, genes related to aging and host defense were upregulated in E. faecium L11-fed worms. In conclusion, E. faecium L11, which prolongs the lifespan of C. elegans, may be a potent probiotic supplement for livestock.

The fatigue life is estimated while determining the reliability of aircraft structures. In this study, the estimation of fatigue life was carried out on the basis of a cumulative damage theory; the working S-N curve and the equivalent stress on the engine support structure significantly affect the safety of the aircraft. The maximum stress observed was 1,080 MPa in the case of scissors link under crash load condition, and there was a 5% margin for the allowable stress corresponding to the temperature reduction factor. The maximum stress was 876 MPa, and the stress equation coefficient had a maximum value of 0.019 MPa/N in the case of scissors link under fatigue loads. In the results of the fatigue life analysis, the safety life in a fretting area of scissors link upper part was 416,667 flight hour, and other parts showed to infinite life. Therefore, it was demonstrated that the fatigue life requirement of aircraft engine support structure (scissors link, straight link) could be satisfied.

An experimental study has been found the air guide grooves for reducing drag. When a bullet is fired and move in the air, the drag is generated. The vortex which is one of the types of drag hinders the movement of the bullet. To solve this phenomenon, cut a negative grooves that we are called the air guiding grooves at the back of bullet. The grooves bullet has identified that the drag compared to conventional ammunition(KM80 and K193) is reduced to 4.480 and 4.054 : 10 % through a Finite Analysis Program($Ansys^{TM}$). Even pressure center was retreating 0.72 % compared to a Bullet(KM80 and K193). Effect obtained with these results is the accuracy of the grooves bullet in a shooting test was improved by over 32 %(KM80: 2.86, air guide grooves : 1.94) compared to conventional ammunition(KM80 and K193). In addition, muzzle velocity is increased 73 m/s. This is expected to be extended the velocity and effective range of bullet. Also, the velocity of the grooves bullet is increased when moving in the air while the velocity of the bullet(KM80 and K193) is reduced. The gas ejected from the muzzle to be balanced and stable flight of the Bullet. Given these effects, we can reckon the air guide grooves have positive influence.

In this paper, the required amount of heat for an anti-icing system of a Flush Air Data Sensing(FADS) system is predicted. For an efficient prediction during the early stage of a design process, a handbook method is used. A program of which inputs are flight conditions is developed to predict the required amount of heat. A CFD analysis is conducted to compute the water catch efficiency which is one of the core parameters used in the handbook method. Kriging method, one of well-known regression mothods, is utilized to construct a surface contour database to evaluate impingements of droplets. To predict the trajectories of droplets, the database of a flow field around the surface is built using Kriging method as well.

The first purpose of this paper was to investigate whether wives' income contributions affect the time spent on housework by dual-earner couples. The second purpose was to investigate period interaction effects on the effect of wives' income contributions. For this, Korean Time Use Survey data 2004-2019 was analyzed. The analysis target was dual-earner couple aged 20-59 years. The dependent variable was time spent on housework, and the analysis method was tobit regression. According to the results, there were three findings: First, there was a U-shaped relation between wives' income contributions and wives' housework time. Second, this relationship became stronger as time progressed. Third, although wives' income contributions positively affected husband housework time, husband housework time was actually zero before 2019. These results demonstrated that not economic perspective, but gender perspective, is more useful for understanding dual-earner couples' division of housework.
With the innovative development of ICT technology, hacking techniques of hackers are also evolving into sophisticated and intelligent hacking techniques. Threat detection research to counter these cyber threats was mainly conducted in a passive way through hacking damage investigation and analysis, but recently, the importance of cyber threat information collection and analysis is increasing. A bot-type automation program is a rather active method of extracting malicious code by visiting a website to collect threat information or detect threats. However, this method also has a limitation in that it cannot prevent hacking damage because it is a method to identify hacking damage because malicious code has already been distributed or after being hacked. Therefore, to overcome these limitations, we propose a model that detects actual threats by acquiring and analyzing threat information while identifying and managing cyber bases. This model is an active and proactive method of collecting threat information or detecting threats outside the boundary such as a firewall. We designed a model for detecting threats using cyber strongholds and validated them in the defense environment.
The utilization of small unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) has expanded into both military and civilian domains, increasing the necessity for research to ensure operational safety and the efficient utilization of airspace. In this study, the calculation of minimum separation distances for the safe operation of small UAVs at low altitudes was conducted. The determination of minimum separation distances requires a comprehensive analysis of the total system errors associated with small UAVs, necessitating sensitivity analysis to identify key factors contributing to flight technology errors. Flight data for small UAVs were acquired by integrating the control system of an actual small UAV with a flight simulation program. Based on this data, operational scenarios for small UAVs were established, and the minimum separation distances for each scenario were calculated. This research contributes to proposing methods for utilizing calculated minimum separation distances as crucial parameters for ensuring the safe operation of small unmanned aerial vehicles in real-world scenarios.
We evaluated the response to salt stress of two different ginseng lines, STG3134 and STG3159, which are sensitive and tolerant, respectively, to salt treatment. Plants were exposed to a 5 dS/m salt solution, and chlorophyll fluorescence was measured. STG3134 ginseng was more sensitive than STG3159 to salt stress. To characterize the cellular response to salt stress in the two different lines, changes in protein expression were investigated using a proteomic approach. Total protein was extracted from detached salt-treated leaves of STG3134 and STG3159 ginseng, and then separated by two-dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis(2-DE). Approximately 468 protein spots were detected by 2-DE and Coommassie brilliant blue staining. Twenty-two proteins were found to be reproducibly up- or down-regulated in response to salt stress. Among these proteins, twelve were identified using MALDI-TOF MS and ESI-Q-TOF and classified into several functional groups: photosynthesis-related proteins(oxygen-evolving enhancer proteins 1 and 2, rubisco and rubisco activase), detoxification proteins(polyphenol oxidase) and defense proteins($\beta$-1,3-glucanase, ribonuclease-like storage protein, and isoflavone reductase-like protein). The protein levels of ribonuclease-like storage protein, which was highly induced in STG3159 ginseng as compared to STG3134, correlated tightly with mRNA transcript levels, as assessed by reverse-transcription(RT)-PCR. Our results indicate that salinity induces changes in the expression levels of specific proteins in the leaves of ginseng plants. These changes may, in turn, playa role in plant adaptation to saline conditions.

Antioxidant enzymes, scavengers of the reactive oxygen intermediate (ROI), are involved in numerous defense systems in cells. In the present study, we investigated the effects of the hot-water extracts of two medicinally potent mushrooms (Ganoderma lucidum and Phellinus linteus) on the activity and expression of antioxidant enzymes in vitro and in vivo. The mushroom extracts stimulated the catalase activity in a dose-dependent manner in vitro, whereas the other antioxidant enzymes (such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPx)) were unaffected by the extracts. The catalytic activity of catalase in the liver and brain was significantly increased after the oral treatment of the mushroom extracts (2.5 g/kg) to ICR mice for 2 months. Western blot analysis of the liver and brain tissues revealed that the expression level of catalase in the mice, treated with both mushroom extracts, was significantly increased compared to that of the control mice. However, the level of the SOD expression in the mice treated with the natural product extracts was unchanged under the same experimental conditions. Although the mechanisms for the stimulatory effect of the catalase expression by these extracts remains unclear, these results suggest that the ingredients of the Ganoderma lucidum and Phellinus linteus extracts act as an activator of catalase, and regulate the expression of catalase at the translational or transcriptional level.
Nuclear power plants (NPPs) in Korea are required to be maintained using a defense in-depth approach to prevent leakage of radioactive substances outside the plant and allow safe shutdown in the event of a fire. Periodic testing must be conducted to ensure that the fire protection facilities perform as required by the laws for various nuclear reactor types. In June 2017, for the first time in Korea, a nuclear plant, Kori Unit 1, was permanently shut down. It was prepared for decommissioning in accordance with the fire protection regulations imposed by the regulatory body. However, a standard protocol is necessary for systematically establishing the fire protection program for decommissioning of NPPs in the future. Therefore, the nuclear legal systems of countries with many operating nuclear power plants, such as the United States, Japan, Canada, and various European countries, were reviewed and guidelines for establishing a fire protection program for decommissioning NPPs was suggested; the fire protection requirements stated by Reg Guide 1.191 (Decommissioning fire protection program for NPPs during decommissioning and permanent shutdown) were used as a model. Suggestions for establishing legal regulations to optimize fire protection programs and secure basic technology for decommissioning NPPs were also made.
