원소재의 미소 표면결함이 인발공정에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Small Surface Defects in the Starting Material on Product Quality after Drawing)

  • In the current study, the effect of small surface defects in the starting material including roughness, indentations, or scratches, which are perpendicular to the direction of drawing, on the product quality is investigated using the finite element method. An axisymmetric defect is assumed. Such defects are defined by a cylindrical defect area and two tapered regions connecting the defect area to the non-defective area of the material. Various conditions for these initial surface defects are considered, including defect depth, defect slope and defect length. To describe the plastic deformation of the defect in detail during the simulation, local remeshing is applied. Based on the finite element results, defect disappearance maps were generated. It was found that defect disappearance is significantly dependent on the defect depth and the defect length coupled with the defect slope.

  • Rotary bending fatigue tests were carried out to investigate the artificial defect sensitivity of fatigue limit in annealed and austempered ductile irons. Artificial defect(hole, diameter${\leq}0.4mm$) machined on specimen surface did not bring about an obvious reduction of fatigue limit in austempered ductile iron as compared with annealed. As a result of investigation on $\sqrt{area}$ c which is the critical artificial defect size. $\sqrt{area}$ c of austempered ductile iron is larger than that of annealed. This means that the crack initiation at artificial defect in austempered ductile iron is more difficult in comparison with annealed. In case that the $\sqrt{area}$ c of artificial defect and graphite nodule are same, the rate of crack initiation for graphite nodule is higher than that of artificial defect.

  • We examined the governing factors of fatigue limit in annealed and austempered ductile iron specimens machined micro hole(dia.<0.4mm) in rotary bending fatigue test. Also, the quantitative relationship between fatigue limit and maximum defect size in specimens was investigated. Artificial defect(micro-pit type, dia.<0.4mm) on specimen surface did not bring about an obvious reduction of fatigue limit in austempered ductile iton(ADI) as compared with annealed ductile iron. According to the investigation of ${\sqrt{area}}_c$ which is the critical defect size to crack initiation at artificial defect, ${\sqrt{area}}_c$ of ADI was larger than that of annealed ductile iron. This shows that the situation of crack initiation at artificial defect in ADI is more difficult in comparison with annealed ductile iron. Maximum defect size is one of the important parameters to predict fatigue limit. And, the quantitative relationship, between the fatigue limit ${\sigma}_{\omega}$ and the maximum defect size ${\sqrt{area}}_{max}$ can be expressed to ${\sigma}_{\omega}^n{\cdot}{\sqrt{area}}_{max}=C_2$ where, $C_2$ are constant. Moreover, it is possible to explain the difference in fatigue limit between, austempered and annealed ductile iron by introducing the parameter ${\delta}(=N_{sg}/N_{total})$in a plain spectimen.

Obtained main results are as follows : (1) Artificial defect(micro hole type, dia.<0.4 mm) on specimen surface did not bring about a obvious reduction of fatigue limit in austempered ductile iron(ADI) as compared with annealed ductile iron. (2) According to the investigation of $\sqrt{area}_c$ which is the critical defect size to crack initiation at artificial defect, $\sqrt{area}_c$ of ADI is larger than that of annealed ductile iron. This shows that the situation of crack initiation at artificial defect in ADI is more difficult in comparison with annealed ductile iron. (3) One of the reasons for the low rate of crack initiation from artificial defect in ADI is that the resistance of matrix to crack initiation is higher than that of annealed ductile iron. (4) In case that the $\sqrt{area}$ of artificial defect and graphite nodule is the same, the rate of crack initiation from graphite nodule is higher than that from artificial defect. This reason is that the serious ruggedness around graphite nodule is formed by austempering treatment.

Investigation of shinning Spot Defect on Hot-Dip Galvanized Steel Sheets

  • Shinning spot defects on galvanized steel sheets were studied by optical microscope, scanning electron microscope(SEM), Energy Dispersive Spectrometer (EDS) and Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy Original Position Statistic Distribution Analysis (LIBSOPA) in this study. The research shows that the coating thickness of shinning spot defects which caused by the substrate defect is much lower than normal area, and when skin passed, the shinning spot defect area can not touch with skin pass roll which result in the surface of shinning spot is flat while normal area is rough. The different coating morphologies have different effects on the reflection of light, which cause the shinning spot defects more brighter than normal area.

  • The semiconductor industry has continuously been looking for the ways to improve yield and to reduce manufacturing cost. The layout modification approach, one of yield enhancement techniques, is applicable to all design styles, but it does not require any additional resources in terms of silicon area. The layout modification method for yield enhancement consists of making local variations in the layout of some layers in such a way that the critical area, and consequently the sensitivity of the layer to point defects, is reduced. Chen and Koren (1995) proposed a greedy algorithm that removes defect sensitive area using via moving, but it is easy to fall into a local minimum. In this paper, we present a via moving algorithm using simulated annealing and enhance yield by diminishing defect sensitive area. As a result, we could decrease the defect sensitive area effectively compared to the greedy algorithm presented by Chen and Koren. We expect that the proposed algorithm can make significant contributions on company profit through yield enhancement.

전외측 대퇴 유리 피판을 이용한 아킬레스건 부위 연부조직 결손의 재건 (Reconstruction of Soft Tissue Defects over the Achilles Tendon Region Using Anterolateral Thigh Free Flap)

  • The anterolateral thigh free flap was first reported by Song et al. in 1984 as a fasciocutaneous flap based on septocutaneous or musculocutaneous perforators of the lateral femoral circumflex vessel. It only becomes popular recently through confirmation of additional anatomy. For reconstruction of Achilles area defect, a thin flap is required to improve aesthetic and functional results. The anterolateral thigh free flap is relatively thin and can provide large skin area. It can be a useful option for reconstruction of Achilles area defect based on these characters. Since March 2002, we have successfully transferred 4 anterolateral thigh free flaps to reconstruct Achilles area defects and have attained good range of motion in this region. The anterolateral thigh free flap has many advantages and can be used for the reconstruction of Achilles tendon area defect.

영상기반 자동결함 검사시스템에서 재현성 향상을 위한 결함 모델링 및 측정 기법 (Robust Defect Size Measuring Method for an Automated Vision Inspection System)

  • AVI (Automatic Vision Inspection) systems automatically detect defect features and measure their sizes via camera vision. AVI systems usually report different measurements on the same defect with some variations on position or rotation mainly because different images are provided. This is caused by possible variations from the image acquisition process including optical factors, nonuniform illumination, random noises, and so on. For this reason, conventional area based defect measuring methods have problems of robustness and consistency. In this paper, we propose a new defect size measuring method to overcome this problem, utilizing volume information that is completely ignored in the area based defect measuring method. The results show that our proposed method dramatically improves the robustness and consistency of defect size measurement.

Accurate Detection of a Defective Area by Adopting a Divide and Conquer Strategy in Infrared Thermal Imaging Measurement

  • Aiming at infrared thermal images with different buried depth defects, we study a variety of image segmentation algorithms based on the threshold to develop global search ability and the ability to find the defect area accurately. Firstly, the iterative thresholding method, the maximum entropy method, the minimum error method, the Ostu method and the minimum skewness method are applied to image segmentation of the same infrared thermal image. The study shows that the maximum entropy method and the minimum error method have strong global search capability and can simultaneously extract defects at different depths. However none of these five methods can accurately calculate the defect area at different depths. In order to solve this problem, we put forward a strategy of "divide and conquer". The infrared thermal image is divided into several local thermal maps, with each map containing only one defect, and the defect area is calculated after local image processing of the different buried defects one by one. The results show that, under the "divide and conquer" strategy, the iterative threshold method and the Ostu method have the advantage of high precision and can accurately extract the area of different defects at different depths, with an error of less than 5%.

냉각재 공급자관 위상배열 검사 적용에 따른 결함 분석 (Analysis of Defect in CANDU Feeder Pipe using Phased Array Ultrasonic Inspection System)

  • The feeder pipe of Main Primary Heat Transfer System in Wolsong Nuclear Power Plant was inspected by the Ultrasonic Phase Array technique in 2010. It is the first time to apply this method to the construction at Nuclear Power Plant in Korea. The time required for UT technique is less than RT method. The UT method doesn't need to evacuate personnel who works nearby inspecting area and doesn't need to wait developing of film. For these reasons, the UT method is the fastest method among the volumetric inspections. As a result of the examination, it became clear that main defect of the feeder pipe is the Lack of fusion in the welded area. Moreover, the rate of defect was reduced gradually as improvement of welder's skill. If welding machine has problem, the defect has tended to same pattern(occurred same position in the welding area) but these defects were founded without specific rules. For these reasons, the creation of defect is dependent on the skill of worker not on the automatic welding machine. This evaluation of defect signal and collecting data would be useful to further examination in ISI.
