In this paper, a method for improving the defect classification performance in low contrast, ununiformity and featureless steel plate surfaces has been studied based on deep convolution neural network and transfer-learning neural network. The steel plate surface images have low contrast, ununiformity, and featureless, so that the contrast between defect and defect-free regions are not discriminated. These characteristics make it difficult to extract the feature of the surface defect image. A classifier based on a deep convolution neural network is constructed to extract features automatically for effective classification of images with these characteristics. As results of the experiment, AlexNet-based transfer-learning classifier showed excellent classification performance of 99.43% with less than 160 seconds of training time. The proposed classification system showed excellent classification performance for low contrast, ununiformity, and featureless surface images.

This paper presents the prediction of deep excavation-induced ground surface movements using artifical neural network(ANN) technique, which is of prime importance in the perspective of damage assessment of adjacent buildings. A finite element model, which can realistically replicate deep excavation-induced ground movements was employed to perform a parametric study on deep excavations with emphasis on ground movements. The result of the finite element analysis formed a basis for the Arificial Neural Network(ANN) system development. It was shown that the developed ANN system can be effecting used for a first-order prediction of ground movements associated with deep-excavation.

Optimum multi-layered feed-forward neural network (NN) models using a resilient back-propagation algorithm and early stopping technique are built to predict the shear capacity of reinforced concrete deep and slender beams. The input layer neurons represent geometrical and material properties of reinforced concrete beams and the output layer produces the beam shear capacity. Training, validation and testing of the developed neural network have been achieved using 50%, 25%, and 25%, respectively, of a comprehensive database compiled from 631 deep and 549 slender beam specimens. The predictions obtained from the developed neural network models are in much better agreement with test results than those determined from shear provisions of different codes, such as KBCS, ACI 318-05, and EC2. The mean and standard deviation of the ratio between predicted using the neural network models and measured shear capacities are 1.02 and 0.18, respectively, for deep beams, and 1.04 and 0.17, respectively, for slender beams. In addition, the influence of different parameters on the shear capacity of reinforced concrete beams predicted by the developed neural network shows consistent agreement with those experimentally observed.

In this paper an artificial neural network model is developed to estimate the unconfined compression strength of Deep Cement Mixing(DCM) treated soil. A database which consists of a number of unconfined compression test result compiled from 9 clay sites is used to train and test of the artificial neural network model. Developed neural network model requires water content of soil, unit weight of soil, passing percent of #200 sieve, weight of cement, w-c ratio as input variables. It is found that the developed artificial neural network model can predict more precise and reliable unconfined compression strength than the conventional empirical models.

Particulate matter has emerged as a serious global problem, necessitating highly reliable information on the matter. Therefore, various algorithms have been used in studies to predict particulate matter. In this study, we compared the prediction performance of neural network models that have been actively studied for particulate matter prediction. Among the neural network algorithms, a deep neural network (DNN), a recurrent neural network, and long short-term memory were used to design the optimal prediction model using a hyper-parameter search. In the comparative analysis of the prediction performance of each model, the DNN model showed a lower root mean square error (RMSE) than the other algorithms in the performance comparison using the RMSE and the level of accuracy as metrics for evaluation. The stability of the recurrent neural network was slightly lower than that of the other algorithms, although the accuracy was higher.
Spiking neural network is a neural network that applies the working principle of real brain neurons. Due to the biological mechanism of neurons, it consumes less power for training and reasoning than conventional neural networks. Recently, as deep learning models become huge and operating costs increase exponentially, the spiking neural network is attracting attention as a third-generation neural network that connects convolution neural networks and recurrent neural networks, and related research is being actively conducted. However, in order to apply the spiking neural network model to the industry, a lot of research still needs to be done, and the problem of model retraining to apply a new model must also be solved. In this paper, we propose a method to minimize the cost of model retraining by extracting the weights of the existing trained deep learning model and converting them into the weights of the spiking neural network model. In addition, it was found that weight conversion worked correctly by comparing the results of inference using the converted weights with the results of the existing model.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the performance of deep neural network model in order to determine whether there is a risk factor for coronary artery disease based on the cardiac variation parameter. The study used unidentifiable 297 data to evaluate the performance of the model. Input data consists of heart rate parameters, which are SDNN (standard deviation of the N-N intervals), PSI (physical stress index), TP (total power), VLF (very low frequency), LF (low frequency), HF (high frequency), RMSSD (root mean square of successive difference) APEN (approximate entropy) and SRD (successive R-R interval difference), the age group and sex. Output data are divided into normal and patient groups, and the patient group consists of those diagnosed with diabetes, high blood pressure, and hyperlipidemia among the various risk factors that can cause coronary artery disease. Based on this, a binary classification model was applied using Deep Neural Network of deep learning techniques to classify normal and patient groups efficiently. To evaluate the effectiveness of the model used in this study, Kernel SVM (support vector machine), one of the classification models in machine learning, was compared and evaluated using same data. The results showed that the accuracy of the proposed deep neural network was train set 91.79% and test set 85.56% and the specificity was 87.04% and the sensitivity was 83.33% from the point of diagnosis. These results suggest that deep learning is more efficient when classifying these medical data because the train set accuracy in the deep neural network was 7.73% higher than the comparative model Kernel SVM.

DBN-DNN 모형의 성능은 통계학적 모형성능 평가지표 (coefficient of efficiency, CE; coefficient of determination, $r^2$; root mean square error, RMSE; mean absolute error, MAE)를 이용하여 평가되었으며, 기존의 두가지 형태의 ANN (artificial neural network), 즉 모형학습 시 SGD (stochastic gradient descent) 및 GD (gradient descent)를 각각 적용한 ANN-SGD 및 ANN-GD 모형과 비교하였다.
