  • Recently, as the amount of particulate matter blowing from China increases, the domestic air environment is rapidly deteriorating. This pollution of the atmosphere greatly affects the light energy reaching the ground. Particularly, since the light enters the solar cell module in various forms, the amount of input energy of the solar power generation system may be changed depending on the ratio of direct beam irradiation and diffused horizontal irradiation. In this paper, we analyze how the ratio of direct beam component and diffused component on global horizontal irradiation varies with the atmospheric conditions. In addition, the reliability of the regression equation, designed to decompose the global horizontal irradiation into horizontal direct beam irradiation and diffused horizontal irradiation, was verified according to the level of air pollution. So, we derive the most suitable decomposition model for use in domestic climatic conditions in Korea by comparing the ratio of direct and diffuse component on the horizontal which is calculated with Perez model and Watanabe model using the meteorological weather data observed for 14 months. Finally, to reduce the error of the transposition result, we verified the reliability of the decomposition which depends on the atmospheric environment.

  • A novel integrated optimization method based on the Generalized Bender’s Decomposition (GBD) is proposed to combine both generation and transmission expansion problems. Most of existing researches on the integrated expansion planning based on the GBD theory incorporate DC power flow model to guarantee the convergence and improve the computation time. Inherently the GBD algorithm based on DC power flow model cannot consider variables and constraints related bus voltages and reactive power. In this paper, an integrated optimization method using the GBD algorithm based on a linearized AC power flow model is proposed to resolve aforementioned drawback. The proposed method has been successfully applied to Garver’s six-bus system and the IEEE 30-bus system which are frequently used power systems for transmission expansion planning studies.

  • The Hurdle model can to analyze zero-inflated count data. This model is a mixed model of the logit model for a binary component and a truncated Poisson model of a truncated count component. We propose a new hurdle model with a general heterogeneous random effects covariance matrix to analyze longitudinal zero-inflated count data using modified Cholesky decomposition. This decomposition factors the random effects covariance matrix into generalized autoregressive parameters and innovation variance. The parameters are modeled using (generalized) linear models and estimated with a Bayesian method. We use these methods to carefully analyze a real dataset.

  • Three spherical quaternary composites composed of metal/metal oxide/high explosive/oxidizer were prepared by a crystallization/agglomeration process. From the characteristics of composites by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), the shortening of the decomposition zone of high explosives in the quaternary composite was observed, which may be attributed to the autocatalytic reaction caused by $ClO_2$ or HCl which are ammonium perchlorate (AP) degradation products. The activation energy analysis showed that the activation energy abruptly decreases at the end of the decomposition zone of high explosives, and it was considered to be caused by $HNO_2$ which is common in decomposition products of high explosives. The activation energy predicted from complex pyrolysis results by the distributed activation energy model (DAEM) showed much better in accuracy than those by model-fitting methods such as Kissinger-Akahira-Sunose and Flynn-Wall-Ozawa models.

  • This paper presents an efficient parallel implementation and its performance evaluations of a SOFM neural netowrk on the multicomputer. We investigate the parallel performance as the size of a neural network N, the number of the patterns L, and the number of the processors p increase. We propose an analytica performance evaluation model for eac of the parallel implementations and verified the validity of the model through experiments. Analytical result show that the number of processors for a maximum speedup of the network decomposition nd the training-set decomposition increases in proportion to .root.N and .root.L, respectively. The performances of the both decompositions depend on the number of training patterns L and the size of the neural network N and, if L.geq.0.423N, the performance of trhe training-set decomposition is proved to be better than that of the network decomposition.

  • In this study, the problem of blind signal separation for coprime planar arrays is investigated. For coprime planar arrays comprising two uniform rectangular subarrays, we link the signal separation to the tensor-based model called coupled canonical polyadic decomposition (CPD) and propose an improved coupled trilinear decomposition approach. The output data of coprime planar arrays are modeled as a coupled tensor set that can be further interpreted as a coupled CPD model, allowing a signal separation to be achieved using coupled trilinear alternating least squares (TALS). Furthermore, in the procedure of the coupled TALS, a Vandermonde structure enforcing approach is explicitly applied, which is shown to ensure fast convergence. The results of Monto Carlo simulations show that our proposed algorithm has the same separation accuracy as the basic coupled TALS but with a faster convergence speed.

  • To modify product design easily, modern CAD systems adopt the feature-based model as their primary representation. On the other hand, the boundary representation (B-rep) model is used as their secondary representation. IGES and STEP AP203 edition 1 are the representative standard formats for the exchange of CAD files. Unfortunately, both of them only support the B-rep model. As a result, feature data are lost during the CAD file exchange based on these standards. Loss of feature data causes the difficulty of CAD model modification and prevents the transfer of design intent. To resolve this problem, a tool for recognizing design features from a B-rep model and then reconstructing a feature-based model with the recognized features should be developed. As the first part of this research, this paper presents a method for decomposing a B-rep model into simple volumes suitable for design feature recognition. The results of experiments with a prototype system are analyzed. From the analysis, future research issues are suggested.

  • Decomposition of litter is a function of various interrelated variables, both biotic and abiotic factors. Litter decomposition acts like a natural fertilizer play a prime role in maintaining the productivity and nutrient cycling in agroforestry systems. There are few studies of decomposition carried out in agroforestry systems with coffee; so it is necessary to perform more research work to fill the research gap, which will allow a better understanding of the management of the coffee agroforestry systems. This paper is based on the theoretical and conceptual aspects of leaf litter decomposition in agroforestry systems, emphasizing the combination with coffee cultivation and critically examined the role of the different factors involved in the decomposition. This study made a comparison of different investigations with regards to weight loss, decomposition rates (k), initial chemical composition, and release of the main nutrients. This study suggested that it is necessary to implement studies of decomposition and mineralization, and the microflora and fauna associated with these processes, so that serves as an important tool to develop a model for enabling a description of the short, medium, and long-term dynamics of soil nutrients in coffee agroforestry systems.
