A Channel Estimation Technique for OFDM-CDMA Systems (OFDM-CDMA 시스템을 위한 채널 추정 기법)

  • Transmitted data may be compensated by using estimated channel values that are obtained with pilot symbols in OFDM-CDMA systems. Generally, a USE (Minimum Mean-Squared Error) estimator using correlations between pilot symbols gives good results, but its structure is so complicated. Starting with a modification of PA (Pilot-Aided) algorithm using pilot symbols and PADD (Pilot-Aided Decision-Directed) algorithm using both pilot and data symbols, a new channel estimation algorithm with more simpler structure is proposed. The performance of this algorithm is evaluated with varying mobile speed in a Ralyleigh multipath fading environment through computer simulations. The simulation results show that the proposed channel estimation algorithm outperforms a conventional PA algorithm.

  • The use of multi-level modulation scheme in the wireless LAN(Local Area Networks) system requires an accurate channel estimation. In this paper, we present sequential least squares(LS) channel estimation scheme based on decision-directed channel tracking scheme. The proposed scheme improves the performance of the conventional LS estimator for wireless LAN. In addition, its structure is suitable for the high-rate wireless LAN. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme achieves about IdB Packet Error Rate(PER) gain compared to the LS scheme in a frequency selective channel.

  • It has been a big trend of the convergence technologies about communication systems and vehicular industry to improve safety and convenience. To achieve a number of infotainment vehicular applications, vehicles should transmit information with high reliability. A robust and accurate channel estimation scheme is of great importance to achieve the goal. In this paper, we present a novel enhanced decision-directed channel estimation scheme called FADP (Frequency Averaging Data Pilot) for dynamic time-varying vehicular channels in IEEE 802.11p. We use linear averaging filtering in frequency domain, and utilize the correlation characteristic of the channels between the adjacent two data symbols, update the CR in time domain to get more accuracy. Finally, analysis and simulation results reveal that compared with exist schemes, the proposed scheme has a good performance in mean square error (MSE) and bit error rate (BER).

  • DS-CDMA system requeires a power-efficient transmission and reception scheme to increase capacity. In this paper, coherent detection of DS-CDMA system with M-ary orthogonal signaling is considered, and multistage decision-directed channel estimator is proposed. The multistage decision-directed channel estimator is based on the fact that better channel estimation can be obtained by using the final decisions of the detector with a conventional decision-directed channel estimator. In this scheme, symbol detector and channel estimator operate algernaely. by simulation, it is shown that the proposed method achieves performance gain capare to conventional method, specially at low signal to noise ratio over fast time-variant channel with diversity.

  • This paper proposes the channel estimation method robust to severe frequency selective fading channels in O%M system using wide bandwidth for the high data rate transmission. DDCE, which uses data between the high correlated symbols, is usually used for channel estimation in the slow fading channels. DDCE can get high gains in the non-selective channels. As the bandwidth of system gets wider, it becomes more severe frequency selective fading environments so that the reliability of data becomes lower and error flow is occurred. FE method, this paper proposed, uses the relation between sub-carriers of OFDM in frequency selective fading channels so FE method gets some gains by adapting the power value at a target frequency to the mean value of channel estimated values of adjacent sub-carriers. Because FE uses only preamble unlike DDCE using data, it is independent of data rate related to the reliability of data and the number of multipath. Consequently, FE can obtain considerable gains in the wideband systems where the errorflow of DDCE is occurred, and FE is applicable to frequency selective fading environments.

  • It has been grown interests of the convergence technologies about communication systems and vehicular industry. Vehicular communications enable a number of infotainment applications to serve cars under high mobility environments. To achieve this goal, a robust and accurate channel estimation scheme is of great importance. This paper proposes an enhanced Decision-Directed channel estimation scheme called PTAU(Pilot Tone Aided Update) for IEEE 802.11p in vehicular communication environment. Existing approaches which use subsequent data symbols to estimate channel response in time domain will lead to the error propagation. In this paper, we use the pilot subcarriers to get initial channel response, then utilize the correlation characteristics to update channel response in frequency domain. Finally, Analysis and simulation results reveal that the proposed scheme outperforms in bit error rate(BER), significantly improve the performance of the estimation.

  • Vehicle communication can facilitate efficient coordination among vehicles on the road and enable future vehicular applications such as vehicle safety enhancement, infotainment, or even autonomous driving. In the $3^{rd}$ Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), many studies focus on long term evolution (LTE)-based vehicle communication. Because vehicle speed is high enough to cause severe channel distortion in vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) environments. We can utilize channel estimation methods to approach a reliable vehicle communication systems. Conventional channel estimation schemes can be categorized as least-squares (LS), decision-directed channel estimation (DDCE), spectral temporal averaging (STA), and smoothing methods. In this study, we propose a smart channel estimation scheme in LTE-based V2V environments. The channel estimation scheme, based on an LTE uplink system, uses a demodulation reference signal (DMRS) as the pilot symbol. Unlike conventional channel estimation schemes, we propose an adaptive smoothing channel estimation scheme (ASCE) using quadratic smoothing (QS) of the pilot symbols, which estimates a channel with greater accuracy and adaptively estimates channels in data symbols. In simulation results, the proposed ASCE scheme shows improved overall performance in terms of the normalized mean square error (NMSE) and bit error rate (BER) relative to conventional schemes.

  • This paper proposes a new extended decision directed-decision estimated phase recovery algorithm based on maximum likelihood parameter estimation for OQPSK. In this scheme, comparing conventional one, the data dependent noise of phase recovery loop is reduced by inserting filter with 2 taps to in-phase and quadrature-phase channel respectively before phase detector. The proposed scheme is compared to conventionalscheme and OQPSK in aspect to BER(Bit Error Rate) and phase error according to the roll-off factor of baseband filter, the output back-offs of nonlinear satellite channel, and loop bandwidth.

A Simplified Time Domain Channel Tracking Scheme in OFDM Systems with Null Sub-Carriers (Null 부반송파를 갖는 OFDM 시스템에서 단순화된 시간영역 채널 추적 방식)

  • This paper proposes a scheme to track channel response in OFDM systems with null sub-carriers. The proposed channel tracking scheme estimates the channel response first in the frequency domain by using the decision directed data. The time domain channel estimation is then performed to remove additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) components further. Due to the channel estimation in the frequency domain, no inverse matrix calculation is required in the time domain channel estimation. Computational reduction in the proposed method is about 93%, compared with the conventional time domain channel estimation method. Mean square error (MSE) and bit error rate (BER) performances are evaluated by using computer simulation. The proposed method shows the same performance as that of the conventional time domain channel estimation even though the significant computational reduction.
