This paper presents a statistical model-based noise suppression approach for voice recognition in a car environment. In order to alleviate the spectral whitening and signal distortion problem in the traditional decision-directed Wiener filter, we combine a decision-directed method with an original spectrum reconstruction method and develop a new two-stage noise reduction filter estimation scheme. When a tradeoff between the performance and computational efficiency under resource-constrained automotive devices is considered, ETSI standard advance distributed speech recognition font-end (ETSI-AFE) can be an effective solution, and ETSI-AFE is also based on the decision-directed Wiener filter. Thus, a series of voice recognition and computational complexity tests are conducted by comparing the proposed approach with ETSI-AFE. The experimental results show that the proposed approach is superior to the conventional method in terms of speech recognition accuracy, while the computational cost and frame latency are significantly reduced.

DS-CDMA system requeires a power-efficient transmission and reception scheme to increase capacity. In this paper, coherent detection of DS-CDMA system with M-ary orthogonal signaling is considered, and multistage decision-directed channel estimator is proposed. The multistage decision-directed channel estimator is based on the fact that better channel estimation can be obtained by using the final decisions of the detector with a conventional decision-directed channel estimator. In this scheme, symbol detector and channel estimator operate algernaely. by simulation, it is shown that the proposed method achieves performance gain capare to conventional method, specially at low signal to noise ratio over fast time-variant channel with diversity.

Gardner’s algorithm is one of the useful algorithm for NDD(Non-Decision Directed) symbol synchronization in PAM communications. But the algorithm has a weak point such as pattern noises increasing in multi-level PAM. To insert a pre-filter in the algorithm is able to reduce timing jitter and pattern noise. In this paper, we analyze statistical properties of NDD algorithm to find an optimal parameter of the pre-filter for improving timing jitter and PLL locking. As a simulation result, optimum value of pre-filter parameter, $\beta$, is 0.3 and 0.5 at the roll off factor of the channel, $\alpha$, is 0.5 and 1.0, respectively. Optimum parameters of the pre-filter for clock synchronization of all-digital 256-QAM demodulator is shown in the results.

We propose two new classes of robust blind equalization algorithms against abrupt changes of channel conditions, which we call a triple-mode algorithm(TMA) and an automatic switch-over algorithm(ASA). The conventional DMGSA exhibits slow convergence rates due to the incorrect equalizer tap-updating process under the severe channel conditions. In order to speed up the convergence process, the TMA operates in triple-mode that is based on the dual-mode of the DMGSA incorporated with the tap-updating control modes of the SGA as well as the MSGA. Without resorting to the decision region for selecting the operation mode in the TMA, the ASA automatically switches the blind mode to the smoother conventional decision-directed mode. The ASA uses the error functional that is the weighted sum of the Generalized Sato error and the decision-directed error, where the weights correspond to the channel conditions. Test results on 16-QAM and 8-VSB datas confirm that the TMA and the ASA perform well under the sudden changes of channel conditions.

In order to prevent the presence of the residual phase difference at the discriminator output by the existing AFC techniques, we propose a new automatic frequency control(AFC) tracking algorithm for QPSK demodulation at the digital direct broadcasting satellite(DBS) receiver, which we call a rotational decision-directed AFC(RDDAFC). The RDDAFC rotates the decision boundary for the kth received symbol by the frequency deterctor output of the (k-1)th received symbol. Tracking performances of carrier frequency offset by the proposed RDDAFC algorithm are evaluated through computer simulations under the practical DBS channel conditions with a carrier frequency offset of 2.3MHz when S/N equals 2dB. Test results show that the total pull-in time of the RDDAFC is 1.697msec for 10$^{-3}$ SER before forwared error correction at the receiver.

In digital communication system that the Modified Constant Modulus Algorithm (MCMA) reduced the use of the adaptive equalization algorithm to combat the Inter-symbol Interference (ISI). MCMA is relatively brief operation. The major point of MCMA that it only achieves moderate convergence rate and steady state mean square error (MSE). In this paper suggest, MCMA equalization improve the performance with parallel structure. It combines Modified Constant Modulus Algorithm(MCMA) and Modified Decision Directed(MDD) algorithm. By exploiting the inherent structural relationship between the 4-QAM signal's coordinates and 16-QAM signal's coordinates, another style of cost function for Modified Constant Modulus Algorithm(MCMA) is defined and If it happen to offset of received signals and MCMA is poor performance in order to overcome this because the paper combines apply for MCMA and MDD(Modified Decision Direct) algorithm. By computer simulation, we confirmed that the proposed PMCMA-MDD algorithm has the fater convergence rate and steady mean square error than the conventional MCMA.
We propose an efficient block least-mean-square (BLMS) adaptive algorithm, in conjunction with error control coding, for direct-sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) systems. The proposed adaptive receiver incorporates decision feedback detection and channel encoding in order to improve the performance of the standard LMS algorithm in convolutionally coded systems. The BLMS algorithm involves two modes of operation: (i) The training mode where an uncoded training sequence is used for initial filter tap-weights adaptation, and (ii) the decision-directed where the filter weights are adapted, using the BLMS algorithm, after decoding/encoding operation. It is shown that the proposed adaptive receiver structure is able to compensate for the signal-tonoise ratio (SNR) loss incurred due to the switching from uncoded training mode to coded decision-directed mode. Our results show that by using the proposed adaptive receiver (with decision feedback block adaptation) one can achieve a much better performance than both the coded LMS with no decision feedback employed. The convergence behavior of the proposed BLMS receiver is simulated and compared to the standard LMS with and without channel coding. We also examine the steady-state bit-error rate (BER) performance of the proposed adaptive BLMS and standard LMS, both with convolutional coding, where we show that the former is more superior than the latter especially at large SNRs ($SNR\;\geq\;9\;dB$).

Many CDMA systems provide pilot channels in order to help channel estimation process. Especially in wideband CDMA systems, the number of receive diversity paths can be large due to small chip duration and high multi-path resolution capability. Hence, the received signal power of each path is small for a given total SNR (signal-to-noise ratio) and the pilot power of each path may not be sufficiently large for accurate channel estimation. When the pilot power is small, one can use decision-directed channel estimation to utilize more energy of the received data. However, the decision errors can deteriorate the quality of decision-directed channel estimation. This paper proposes a novel channel estimation method that optimally utilizes receiver decisions as well as pilot symbols with the help of estimated SER (symbol error rate) and SNR. The proposed method computes two channel estimates using the pilot and the data channel filters and optimally combines them. The simulation results show that the proposed method is robust and outperforms the conventional pilot-symbol-aided channel estimation method.

This paper proposes a new extended decision directed-decision estimated phase recovery algorithm based on maximum likelihood parameter estimation for OQPSK. In this scheme, comparing conventional one, the data dependent noise of phase recovery loop is reduced by inserting filter with 2 taps to in-phase and quadrature-phase channel respectively before phase detector. The proposed scheme is compared to conventionalscheme and OQPSK in aspect to BER(Bit Error Rate) and phase error according to the roll-off factor of baseband filter, the output back-offs of nonlinear satellite channel, and loop bandwidth.
