Cognitive Competency, Problem-Solving Skills and Decision-Making: A Case Study of Students' Extracurricular Activities in The Distribution Chains Sector

  • Purpose: Despite significant research on decision-making, researchers struggle to comprehend the decision-making process. This paper aims to not only examine the relationship between problem-solving skills, cognitive competency, and decision-making but also develop measurement instruments for cognitive competency and problem-solving skills to better model decision-making. Research Design, Methodology and Approach: A cross-sectional study was conducted by surveying 292 university students in HCM City, Vietnam, via email sent randomly by Google Forms. This study identifies the conceptual framework and tests the hypotheses using a deductive approach. The SPSS program was used to evaluate the scales' reliability, and the SmartPLS program was used to assess the measurement and structural models. Results: The results show that the research model better modelled the relationship between problem-solving skills, cognitive competency, and decision-making. Although thinking ability has no direct impact on decision-making, both creativity and problem-solving skills have a positive impact on decision-making. The mediating role of problem-solving skills is also determined by the positive relationship between cognitive competency and decision-making. Conclusions: This study highlights decision-making efficiency through the cognitive process from low to high levels and provides for policymakers and managers to explain the decision-making process in a variety of sectors, such as distribution chains, marketing, and human resource distribution.

가정전문간호사의 임상적 의사결정 참여도에 관한 연구 (A Study on Participation in Clinical Decision Making by Home Healthcare Nurses)

  • Purpose: This study was done to identify participation by home healthcare nurses in clinical decision making and factors influencing clinical decision making. Methods: A descriptive survey was used to collect data from 68 home healthcare nurses in 22 hospital-based home healthcare services in Korea. To investigate participation, the researcher developed 3 scenarios through interviews with 5 home healthcare nurses. A self-report questionnaire composed of tools for characteristics, factors of clinical decision making, and participation was used. Results: Participation was relatively high, but significantly lower in the design phase (F=3.51, p=.032). Competency in clinical decision making (r=.45, p<.001), perception of the decision maker role (r=.47, p<.001), and perception of the utility of clinical practice guidelines (r=.25, p=.043) were significantly correlated with participation. Competency in clinical decision making (Odds ratio [OR]=41.79, p=.007) and perception of the decision maker role (OR=15.09, p=.007) were significant factors predicting participation in clinical decision making by home healthcare nurses. Conclusion: In order to encourage participation in clinical decision making, education programs should be provided to home healthcare nurses. Official clinical practice guidelines should be used to support home healthcare nurses’ participation in clinical decision making in cases where they can identify and solve the patient health problems.

간호사의 임상의사결정능력 구조모형 (Structural Equation Modeling on Clinical Decision Making Ability of Nurses)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to construct and test a hypothetical model of clinical decision-making ability of nurses based on the Decision Making Process model and the Cognitive Continuum theory. Methods: The data were collected from nurses working at 11 hospitals in Busan, Daejeon, and South Gyeongsang Province from June 30 to August 1, 2017. Finally, the data from 323 nurses were analyzed. Results: The goodness-of-fit of the final model was at a good level ($x^2/df=2.46$, GFI=.87, AGFI=.84, IFI=.90, CFI=.90, SRMR=.07, RMSEA=.07) and 6 out of 10 paths of the model were supported. The clinical decision-making ability was both directly and indirectly affected by task complexity and indirectly affected by experiences, autonomy, and work environment. Specifically, it was strongly directly affected by analytical competency but was insignificantly affected by intuitive competency. These variables accounted for 66.0% of clinical decision-making ability. Conclusion: The nurses' clinical decision-making ability can be improved by improving their analytical competency. Therefore, it is necessary to organize nursing work, create a supportive work environment, and develop and implement various education programs.

간호사의 팀워크스킬과 의사결정역량이 간호업무성과에 미치는 영향 (Influence of teamwork skill and decision making competency on nursing work performance)

  • 본 연구는 간호사의 팀워크스킬과 의사결정역량이 간호업무성과에 미치는 영향을 파악하고자 시행되었다. 2기관의 대학병원에서 2명 이상이 함께 근무하며 인계를 주고받아 지속적인 연계성 있는 환자의 직 간접 간호를 주 업무로 수행하는 경력 1년 이상의 간호사를 대상으로 2016년 3월 16일부터 3월 25일까지 자료를 수집하였다. 수집된 자료는 IBM SPSS/WIN 21.0을 이용하여 통계 분석하였다. 간호사의 팀워크스킬과 의사결정역량 모두가 간호업무성과에 긍정적인 영향을 미치고 있는 것으로 확인되었다. 간호업무성과에 영향을 주는 예측요인은 일반적 특성 중 총 임상경력 (${\beta}=.23$, p<.001)과 팀워크스킬 (${\beta}=.61$, p<.001), 의사결정역량 (${\beta}=.13$, p=.015)으로 66%의 설명력을 나타냈다. 따라서 간호사의 팀워크스킬과 의사결정역량을 효과적으로 증진시킬 수 있는 조직차원의 지원과 다양한 교육기회를 제공하고 차별화된 교육프로그램 개발 및 적용이 필요하다.

전문대학 신입생의 의사결정역량, 대학생활적응, 대학생활만족도 정도 및 상관성 연구 (Levels and their Correlations of Decision-Making-Competency, Adjustment to College Life, Satisfaction to College Life in Freshmen)

  • 본 연구는 전문대학 신입생의 의사결정역량, 대학생활적응, 대학생활만족도의 정도를 확인하고 이들 간의 관계를 규명하여 성공적인 대학생활을 위한 전략 모색 및 방안 마련의 기초자료를 제시하고자 수행되었다. 일개 전문대학에 재학 중인 1학년 남녀 신입생 325명을 편의추출하여 연구 대상으로 하였으며, 2009년 9월에서 10월까지 2개월간 구조화된 설문지를 통해 자료를 수집하여 SPSS 17.0으로 분석하였다. 연구결과 전문대 신입생이 지각한 의사결정역량의 정도는 $61.77{\pm}7.70$점, 대학생활적응은 $60.97{\pm}8.94$점, 대학생활만족도는 $57.97{\pm}10.80$점이었다. 여가활동유무는 대학생활적응(t=9.174, p<.001), 대학생활만족도(t=8.126, p<.001) 에서 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 보였고, 지각된 학업성취는 각 그룹 간 대학생활적응(F=18.673, p<.001), 대학생활만족도(F=26.000, p<.001)에서 모두 통계학적으로 유의한 차이를 나타내었다. 전문대 신입생의 의사결정역량과 대학생활적응(r=.159, p<.001), 의사결정역량과 대학생활만족도(r=.121, p<.05), 대학생활적응과 대학생활만족도(r=.543, p<.001)간의 관계는 통계적으로 유의한 양의 상관관계를 나타냈다. 이러한 결과는 대학 신입생을 위한 대학생활적응 프로그램 개발 및 재학생 중도 탈락을 예방하는 프로그램 개발에 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

중환자실과 응급실 초보간호사를 위한 맞춤형 시뮬레이션 학습프로그램 개발 및 효과 (The Development and Effects of a Tailored Simulation Learning Program for New Nursing Staffs in Intensive Care Units and Emergency Rooms)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a tailored simulation learning (SL) program and to evaluate the effects of the program on the clinical competency, clinical decision-making competency, and communicative competency of new nursing staffs in intensive care units (ICU) and emergency rooms (ER). Methods: In this quasi-experimental study, fifteen nurses were assigned to the experimental group and fifteen to the control group. The experimental group was given the SL program of four sessions, whereas the lectures of four sessions were given to the control group. Data were analyzed using a $x^2$-test, Mann-Whitney U test, and Kruskal-Wallis test with an SPSS program. Analysis of covariance was used to treat the covariate of pre communicative competency between the experimental and control groups. Results: Based on the education needs of new nursing staffs in ICUs and ERs, three learning scenarios and one evaluating scenario were developed for the SL program. The score for clinical competency, clinical decision-making competency, and communicative competency were significantly higher in the experimental group compared with the control group. Conclusion: The SL program is an effective learning strategy for new nursing staffs in ICUs and ERs. These findings suggest that an SL program be offered as an alternative for new nurse orientation and continuing nurse education.

치위생(학)과 학생들의 직업기초역량이 진로의사결정에 미치는 융합적 영향요인 (The Convergence Effects of Key Vocational Competency on Career Decision Making in Dental Hygiene Students)

  • 본 연구는 치위생(학)과 학생들의 직업기초역량이 진로의사결정에 미치는 융합적 영향요인을 파악하고자 부산과 울산지역의 대학교 치위생(학)과에 재학중이며, 임상실습 경험이 있는 학생 196명을 조사하였다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS 24.0 프로그램을 통해 빈도분석, 상관분석, 선형회귀분석을 사용하여 산출하였다. 연구대상자의 직업기초역량 인식수준은 3.38점, 진로의사결정은 3.30점으로 나타났으며, 직업기초역량의 하부요인 중 직업윤리 인식 수준이 3.46점으로 가장 높게 나타났다. 직업기초역량이 진로의사결정에 미치는 영향요인으로 대인관계능력(p<0.01), 조직이해능력(p<0.01), 자원관리능력(p<0.01), 자기개발능력(p<0.05), 문제해결능력(p<0.05), 수리능력(p<0.05)에서 유의한 수준으로 나타났다. 따라서 치위생(학)과 학생들의 직업기초역량 강화는 진로의사결정을 하는데 중요한 기여요소이므로 치위생 교육이 전공역량과 더불어 직업기초역량을 골고루 갖출 수 있도록 학생개인, 학과, 대학차원의 융합적 노력과 교육과정 개발이 이루어져야 할 것이다.

간호사의 의사결정역량, 간호전문직관, 직무만족이 이직충동에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Decision Making Competency, Nursing Professionalism, and Job Satisfaction on Turnover Impulse among Nurses)

  • Purpose: The study was undertaken to investigate effects of decision making competency, nursing professionalism and job satisfaction on turnover impulse, and identify factors contributing to turnover impulse among nurses. Methods: The study was a descriptive study with 231 nurses from 4 general tertiary hospitals participating. Data were collected during March, 2013 using a structured self-report questionnaire. Decision making competency, nursing professionalism, and job satisfaction were measured with validated instruments, and turnover impulse was measured with one question using a 5-point Likert scale. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients and multiple regression. Results: The significant predictors of turnover impulse among nurses were professionalism (${\beta}$=-0.18, p=.015) and job satisfaction (${\beta}$=-0.18, p=.009). These variables explained 12% of the variance in turnover impulse among nurses. Conclusion: The results indicate that nursing managers need to put efforts in improving nurses' job satisfaction and to develop plans to increase nursing professionalism in order to reduce nurses' turnover impulse.

임상간호사의 전문직 자율성과 임상적 의사결정능력과의 관계 (Professional Autonomy and Clinical Decision Making Ability in Clinical Nurses)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the correlation between level of professional autonomy and clinical decision making abilities in clinical nurses, and to provide basic information for promoting competency nurses in making independent decisions. Method: Data were collected from July 1 to July 18, 2008, and participants were 202 clinical nurses in general hospitals. Collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics: frequency and percentage and Pearson correlation coefficients with the SPSS WIN 14.0 program. Results: The professional autonomy index for the nurses was 159.63 points. The clinical decision making ability index was 119.79 points. The most highly ranked factor in clinical decision making was search for information and unbiased assimilation of new information. There was a statistically significant difference in professional autonomy according to age, clinical experience, and type of duty. Relation between level of professional autonomy and clinical decision making showed a positive correlation. Conclusion: As a results show a significant correlation between professional autonomy and clinical decision making in clinical nurses, improvement in professional autonomy of clinical nurses, would be promoted through continuous support and training.

일 지역 저소득층 여성가구주를 위한 임파워링 프로그램이 건강 삶의 질, 의사결정 자기효능, 자가관리 능력 및 합리적 의료이용에 미치는 효과 (Effects of an Empowering Program on Health Quality of Life, Decision Making Self-efficacy, Self-care Competency, and Reasonable Medical Care Utilization among Low Income Women Households)

  • Purpose: The study assessed the effects of a 12-session empowering program to promote health quality of life, decision making self-efficacy, self-care competency, and reasonable medical care utilization among low income women households in one rural area. Methods: A quasi-experimental, one-group pre-posttest design was employed. A total of 28 women enrolled as medicaid recipients in the Public Health Center of W city agreed to participate. The empowering program consisted of 12 sessions addressing health education for self-care of disease, medication management, and counseling for psycho-social support. The intervention was delivered by five nurses and one social worker. Women completed a structured questionnaire measuring the study variables with demographic characteristic before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed by PAWS Statistics 17 utilizing descriptive statistics and paired t-test. Results: After the intervention, significant increases were evident in participant health quality of life (t=-5.83, p<.001), decision making self-efficacy (t=-4.86, p<.001), self-care competency (t=-8.16, p<.001), and reasonable medical care utilization (t=-3.97, p<.001). Conclusion: The 12-session empowering program on health quality of life as well as self-care competency was effective when delivered to low income women households. Further studies with larger numbers of participants and a control group are necessary to validate the results.
