Analysis of Death Accidents of Hazardous and Dangerous Works defined in Regulation for Employment Restriction and Special Education for Safety and Health (유해·위험작업의 취업제한에 관한 규칙 및 특별안전보건교육 대상작업의 사망재해 분석에 관한 연구)

  • With the changes of industrial structure, contents and types in hazardous and dangerous works have been changed considerably. However, the hazardous and dangerous works by defined "Regulation for the hazardous and dangerous work employment restriction" and "Special education for safety and health"have not been amended over twenty years. This study aimed to identify the recent trends of the works by analyzing the death accidents cases from 2004 to 2013 and to present the management methods about future hazardous and dangerous works. The results showed that amount of 1,972 cases among 11,513 death accidents were equivalent to the works presented by "Regulation for the hazardous and dangerous work employment restriction". The amount of death accidents in 'Work of using construction equipment following construction machinery management act' was biggest among the death accidents cases and that of 'Work of handling pressure vessels following high-pressure gas safety control act' didn't show up. For the works in "Special education for safety and health"amount of 1,650 death accidents cases were equivalent. The amount of death accidents in 'Work involving a crane with a capacity of 1 ton or more or work which is carried out with a crane or hoist with a capacity of less than 1 ton in a workplace having at least 5 such machines' presented by "Special education for safety and health"was biggest. Also, death accidents case didn't occurred in three works presented by "Special education for safety and health". It was analyzed that works with low death accidents cases should be needed to study thoroughly the whole disaster research involving nonfatal accidents.   • The nation is turning into aging society, and safety accidents among elderly people are on the rise. When death roll caused by safety accidents was investigated, senior citizens who died from safety accidents outnumbered the other age groups who died for the same reason. The most common cause of death was traffic accidents, followed by suicide and a hurt from a fall, and Korea rated first among OECD member nations in death roll by traffic accidents. Aging brings a lot of physical changes to elderly people, and they are often likely to be involved in accidents such as a hurt from a fall due to degenerated sensory organs like hearing and eyesight and deteriorated motor skills. Unsafe social facilities also have them face a lot of accidents, including fracture and death, and such accidents take place even at home that is usually considered safe, or are triggered by things of daily use. As a result of comparing every age group's death roll by safety accidents, the number of senior citizens who died from safety accidents was far higher than that of the other age groups who died for the same reason in every accident field. In aging society, a sharp increase in the elderly population and ensuing safety accidents are expected to pose a serious threat to national economy, and diverse efforts should be put into tacking this problem. For instance, safety education should be provided to people in general including senior citizens on a regular basis, and more safety facilities should be prepared. Besides, safety equipment should be developed.

Accident Characteristics by Age Construction Workers (건설근로자의 연령별 재해 특성)

  • As the construction project gets bigger in scale, the actual construction itself is becoming more complex. The construction accidents occupy 26.18 percent of total death disaster according to the accidents report in 2007. It is the highest figure among the entire industry, and it shows how serious the construction accident is. In order to reduce accidents occurred in the construction industry, we should find the accident characteristics of construction workers by age. In this study, we investigated 589 cases of fatal accidents, and classified them by trades, type of works, the things that caused the accident, how they occurred, and size. We then identified accident characteristics for each group by analysing them in accordance with workers age. The result of analysis showed that in carpenter and common laborer, the number of death accidents increased as the workers age increased. Another characteristics were that the number of death accidents increased as the age increased in finishing work and reinforced concrete construction and in a smaller-scale businesses, respectively. Common labor was the trade with the highest number of death accidents and the laborers of 50 age or higher in age in finishing working type were the most vulnerable to death accidents.

  • The large-sized, complex, and multi-storied construction industry caused the increasing construction amount together with insufficient skilled workers to increase the probability of occurring accident, resulting in the most construction accidents next to manufacturing industry. Death accidents have risen to serious level, compared construction industry with manufacturing industry along the numbers of workers. Due to the main feature of one-time industry receiving orders, open-air dispersed production activity and the long-complex production process, the continuous efforts to prevent and manage safety accidents were made but the results were of no effect. They didn't deeply analyze the falling accidents that consist of half death accidents in construction industry. This study has classified in detail Missteps, Slip, Trip, Unstability and the others on the basis of gait characteristics, occurrence types, frequency and intensity of death accidents. This study suggested the effective methods on the construction safety management according to the causes of falling accidents. This study will be expect to be used as the basic data in the procedure and the program of safety management.

  • The importance of the industrial safety has been growing gradually as well as the prevention activities on industrial accidents. Industrial accident rates have been decreasing by the prevention activities. However, the fatal industrial accidents such as the death tend to increase and risk per accident has increased. The previous studies on the industrial accidents focus on the entire accidents. However, these studies are lacking for the fatal industrial accidents such as the death. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the characteristics and trend of death which occurred by industrial accident, based on the real data of deaths collected last 5 years from 1999 to 2003 in korea. This paper suggests a analysis method using MDS(MultiDimensional Scaling) that considers accidents variables and properties simultaneously. We evaluate MDPREF (Multidimensional Analysis of Preference Data), one of the MDS analysis, to know the relations between the type of industry and region as well as the type of industry and occupation. This paper finds the type of industry which has high possibilities of death by regional groups. In addition, we find the type of occupation which has high possibilities of death by the type of industry. These findings indicate that industrial classification should be differently controled according to type of occupation and region.

  • Compared with other industries, construction industry shows a higher rate of death accidents and recently companies' legal responsibilities are to be increasingly enforced. The trend causes tremendous concerns for construction firms and increases the importance of forecasting and pro-actively managing death accidents in construction fields. The objective of the study is to develop a predictive analytics model for forecasting death accidents in building projects based on a decision tree technique, which enables to forecast the probabilities of death accidents by trade. The use of the model helps to decrease risks of legal punishments and to assist the safe execution of building projects by forecasting and pro-actively managing death accidents.

A Study on the Influence of Climate Factors on Construction Accidents (기후요소가 건설안전사고에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide basic data for establishment of prevention counterplan against construction accidents in preparation for variation of climate conditions. In order to execution of this study, it was analyzed relations of climate factors and cases of construction accident occurred construction sites. In occurrence of construction accidents inducing death upon variation of Climate factors, precipitation and wind velocity were not related directly to construction accidents inducing death. On the other hand, the more temperature and humidity are high, the more construction accidents inducing death occurred. Especially, when temperature and humidity are above $24^{\circ}C,\;70\%$ respectively, field managers must pay attention to safety management of construction sites.

A Study on The Life Tablefor Specific Causes of Death in Korea (사망원인과 특정사인생명표에 관한 연구)

  • This study was conducted to make the life tables from specific causes of death in Korea. Both "Life tables of Korea in l978-79" and "the statistics on causes of death statistics in 1980" issued by Economic Planning Board were used as source of data for this study. Among the 58, 187 death certificates reported to the concerned authorities, 39, 801 causes were drawn for the purpose of this study. As a result, it is revealed that two thirds of men in Korea died from these 10 major causes of death. The summarized results are as follows: 1. According to recent statistics, 10 major causes of death in 1980 were shown in the order of 1) malignant neoplasms, 2) cerebrovascular disease, 3) accidents and adverse effects, 4)hypertensive disease, 5) ischaemic heart disease and heart attack, 6) chronic liver disease and cirrhosis, 7) tuberculosis, 8) pneumonia, bronchitis, emphysema and asthma, 9) suicide, 10) diabetes mellitis. 2. The major causes of death in Korea were very similar to those of developed countries such as West Germany, Denmark and Japan. This means that our pattern of death causes is almost approaching to that of developed countries. 3. Our crude death rate in 1980 was on the line of 6.6 per 1, 000 people. This is very low level, compared with 12.1 in West Germany and 10.0 in Denmark, however, our age sepcific death rate was on the verge of doubled level in each age category as to that of West Germany, Denmark and Japan. The fact tells us that our death rate is very high yet, especially in young and prime adult age, and the proportion of the aged is quite low. 4. Average ages of people died from malignant neoplasms, cerebro vascular diseases and hypertensive diseases were 63.1, 66.6, 67.3 respectively, however, that of accidents and adverse effect was only 42.5. This shows that accidents occur indifferently from age. 5. In the curve of eventual death probability, the curve of malignant neoplasms was the highest of all curves before 60 in age. However, the probability curve of eventually dying from accidents and adverse effects tends to decline with age. 6. In this study five life tables from major causes of death (four leading causes of death and of tuberculosis) were constructed for 1979. These life tables are reflecting accurately the effects of age distribution on the specific cause of death. In the surviving curje of these tables we can see that the curve of accidents is adversely related to age. While curves of neoplasms, hypertension and tuberculosis are not diminishing before 40 in age, they are going sharply downward after 50 in age.ard after 50 in age.

  • By materials of traffic safety public corporation, from 2007. 1. 1 to 2007 12. 31, for a year. traffic accidents took place in korea were 211,662 accidents. By this 6,166 people were death, and 335,906 people were wounded. In Gwangju metropolitan city, in 2007 year, 7,881 accidents took place and 152 people were death and 12,728 peoples were wounded, in 2008 year, 8,231 accidents took place and 138 people were death and 13,533 people were wounded. Death people reduced but accidents numbers were in creased 4.4%. Meanwhile, government did various traffic policies to reduce traffic accident. But still, disgrace of underdeveloped country in traffic division couldn't take off. Moreover, traffic safety unconcern of general country people are very deficient. In this research, as the basis of Gwangju province police agency, in traffic accident the present state, I am' going to analyse the part of directly related to citizen life and centering death accident and to present traffic police activities for prevention of traffic accidents.

Analysis of the Factors and Patterns Associated with Death in Aircraft Accidents and Incidents Using Data Mining Techniques (데이터 마이닝 기법을 활용한 항공기 사고 및 준사고로 인한 사망 발생 요인 및 패턴 분석)

  • This study analyzes the influential factors and patterns associated with death from aircraft accidents and incidents using data mining techniques. To this end, we used two datasets for aircraft accidents and incidents, one from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the other from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). We developed our prediction models using the decision tree classifier to predict death from aircraft accidents or aircraft incidents and thereby derive the main cause factors and patterns that can cause death based on these prediction models. In the NTSB data, deaths occurred frequently when the aircraft was destroyed or people were performing dangerous missions or maneuver. In the FAA data, deaths were mainly caused by pilots who were less skilled or less qualified when their aircraft were partially destroyed. Several death-related patterns were also found for parachute jumping and aircraft ascending and descending phases. Using the derived patterns, we proposed helpful strategies to prevent death from the aircraft accidents or incidents.
