  • The first grid-connected, building-integrated transparent amorphous silicon photovoltaic installation has been operated since October 2004 in Yongin, Korea. The 2.2kWp transparent PV system was applied to the facade of entrance hall in newly constructed KOLON E&C R&D building. The PV module is a nominal 0.98m ${\times}$ 0.95m, 10% transparent, laminated, amorphous(a-Si) thin-film device rated at 44 Wp per module. To demonstrate the architectural features of thin film PV technologies for daylighting application, transparent PV modules are attached to the building envelope with the form of single glazed window and special point glazing(SPG) frames. Besides power generation, the 10% transmittance of a-Si PV module provides very smooth natural daylight to the entrance hall without any special shading devices for whole year. The installation is fully instrumented and is continuously monitored in order to allow the performance assessment of amorphous silicon PV operating at the prevailing conditions. This paper presents measured power performance data from the first 12 months of operation. For the first year, annual average system specific yield was just 486.4kWh/kWp/year which is almost half of typical amorphous silicon PV output under the best angle and orientation. It should be caused by building orientation and self-shading of adjacent mass. Besides annual power output, various statistical analysis was performed to identify the characteristics of transparent thin film PV system.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the variation in building energy predictions caused by simulation settings related to building envelop thickness. The study assessed the ceiling depth impact on skylight energy performance through OpenStudio integrated Radiance and EnergyPlus simulation programs. A ceiling as deep as 1.5 to 3m was analyzed for skylight to roof ratios from 1% to 25%. The results indicated that the building ceiling depth negatively affected the capability of skylights to significantly reduce building energy consumption. Through a parametric analysis, the study concluded that 8%, 9%, 10% and 11% skylight to roof ratio were optimal in terms of total building energy consumption for a ceiling depth of 1.5m, 2m, 2.5m and 3m, respectively. In addition, the results showed that the usually recommended 5% skylight to roof ratio was only efficient when no ceiling depth was included in the simulation model. Furthermore, the study indicated that the building energy saved by the optimal skylight of each ceiling depth decreased as the ceiling depth deepened. The highest total building energy reduction was 9%, 7%, 5% and 3% for a ceiling depth of 1.5m, 2m, 2.5m and 3m, respectively. This study induced that the solar heat gains and daylight visible transmittance by ceiling depth were crucial in the predictions of skylight energy performance and should not be neglected through building simulation simplifications as it is commonly done in most simulation programs' settings.

  • This study comparatively analyzed the images and preference of lighting space using the emotion-based technique in order to effectively use it in clothing shops and fashion marketing. In terms of color temperature for light sources, 2,800K of lamp color, 6,500K of daylight color and 4,200K of white color were used. For the assessment, sensory evaluation technique was used. Then, the study found the followings: In terms of the image of lighting space by light source, different images were observed by light source with significant difference by the evaluation category. For factor analysis by the evaluation category, 7 factors were extracted. Among them, evaluation on lighting space was influenced by the following three images: modern space, elegant space and classical space. In particular, the modern space comprised of the following adjectives had the biggest effect on the assessment of the image of lighting space ('refreshing,' 'transparent,' 'bluish,' 'bright' and 'non-classical') (primary evaluation 30.13%). According to assessment on the preference of lighting space, the respondents' most favorite lighting space was 4,200K while their least favorable one was 6,500K in terms of color temperature. In terms of preference by the image of lighting space, they didn't like 'non-elegant' and 'non-beige' images even though they had the images of modern space. Therefore, it was confirmed that beige and elegant space images have an effect on the preference of lighting space.

  • When a light is projected upon a material, part of its radiant energy is absorbed and the rest is reflected or transmitted according to the nature of the material. The molecules of the substance absorbing a light obtains the radiant energy to make thermal reactions or photochemical reactions. Specially, photochemical reactions by ultraviolet(UV) radiation brings about photochemical degradation such as color change. Because the photochemical damage brings about a devaluation of material and once damaged, it is irretrievable, it is necessary to minimize the damage and conserve the native quality of a material by a protective lighting system. This paper presents the measurement and photochemical damage for UV radiation from light sources. We measured the optical radiations from artificial light sources and daylight, and we analyzed a functional relation between irradiance and UV radiation form the results.

  • It is more necessary to consider the various factors for developmenting visible PV module of alternative window than traditional PV module. It must have sufficient performance which is Tvis, daylighting, daylight factor, glare index. so that more needs to consider suitable plan and total evaluated technology. Under the this background. For using commonly a combination BIPV module system and Daylinghting that can alternative architectural window, our goal on this study is drawing proper window area ratio as the window by analyzing lighting performance and glare index depending on transmittance of DSSC. On this study, we drew the result about window area ratio that can apply in the building when applying DSSC in the window. In situation that window is alternated as curtain wall in atrium that has big Widow area, if applying red 15.8% DSSC of low transmittance, it is expect to proper because it is suitable illumination standard and doesn't occur a discomfort glare. In case of office, we propose to apply red 33.2% or blue 35.2% DSSC of high transmittance for no affecting lighting load. we expect to contribute to select proper and effective window when applying the window in the building by drawing the window area ratio that can apply in thee building depending on transmittance of DSSC and offering the glare index data.

  • The effects of monthly meteorological data measured at 11 stations in South Korea on pan coefficient were analyzed to develop the four types of multiple linear regression models for estimating pan coefficients. To evaluate the applicability of developed models, the models were compared with six previous models. Pan coefficients were most affected by air temperature for January, February, March, July, November and December, and by solar radiation for other months. On the whole, for 12 months of the year, the effects of wind speed and relative humidity on pan coefficient were less significant, compared with those of air temperature and solar radiation. For all meteorological stations and months, the model developed by applying 5 independent variables (wind speed, relative humidity, air temperature, ratio of sunshine duration and daylight duration, and solar radiation) for each station was the most effective for evaporation estimation. The model validation results indicate that the multiple linear regression models can be applied to some particular stations and months.

  • The objective of this research is to the enhance the color function of work clothing : to research and analyze the hue and tone of work clothing colors to be used for machinery and heavy industries in national industrial complexes, Through this research, the color using problems which related with safety workers will be revealed. For this project, total 42 sets of work suits were sampled from 12 different companies in the machinery and construction industries in the national industrial complexes of Gyeongsang Namdo Province and 16 sets of work suits currently being sold in the market. The collected work suits samples were classified according to item types and design. Color measurements were taken thus: After calibration according to ASTM D1729 specifications of standardized configuration settings to match standardized luminous source D65(Daylight 6500K) in color cabinet BOTECK SuperLight-VI, the RGB values of the work suits were calculated using PANTONE Color Cue TX. The RGB values of the colors thus derived were converted into V/C values using the Munsell Conversion 9.0.6 and analyzed with Munsell's 10-color system and PCCS. The results were presented according to Munsell's color wheel and color and brightness distributions were expressed in table form, as well as presented as a tone map. Following analysis, color hue distribution was found to be concentrated around PB, and brightness distribution toward the low end and mid range of the scale. Saturation values were distributed mostly around the low end of the scale. Following color tone analysis according to PCCS, it became apparent that colors were mainly distributed around dkg, ltg, and g, at low- and mid-brightness and low-saturation. Therefore, it may be concluded that colors used in work suits in the machinery and heavy industries are mainly cool colors, at low- and mid-brightness and low saturation. It is conjectured that such colors were applied uniformly in the workplace in order to serve certain functions, such as concealment of stains and contamination. Therefore, it follows that the utilization of colors, among other functions served by working clothings, must be taken into consideration in order to enhance safety and efficiency.

  • Electric Pole is a supporting beam used for power transmission/distribution which is sensitive to external force change of environmental factors. Therefore, power facilities have many difficulties in terms of maintenance/conservation from external environmental changes and natural disasters that cause a great economic impact. The aerial wire cause elasticity due to the influence of temperature, or factors such as wind speed and wind direction, that weakens the electric pole. The situation may lead to many safety risk in day-to-day life. But, the safety assessment of the pole is carried out at the design stage, and aftermath is not considered. For the safety and maintenance purposes, it is very important to analyze the influence of weather factors on external forces periodically. In this paper, we analyze the acceleration data of the sensor nodes installed in electric pole for maintenance/safety purpose and use Kalman filter as noise compensation method. Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) is performed to analyze the influence of each meteorological factor, along with the meteorological factors on frequency components. The result of the analysis shows that the temperature, humidity, solar radiation, hour of daylight, air pressure, wind direction and wind speed were influential factors. In this paper, the influences of meteorological factors on frequency components are different, and it is thought that it can be an important factor in achieving the purpose of safety and maintenance.

  • Saponarin is a crucial component of barley sprout, and the production and quantitative analysis are issued to date. In this study, the optimal saponarin extraction conditions were presented on the subject of acetonitrile, ethanol, methanol, and water for the quantitative analysis in barley sprout through the extraction efficiency compared with the solvent concentration and extraction time using the reaction surface methodology. The optimal extraction time and solvent condition for saponarin were 3.9 h and 53.7% of aqueous methanol, respectively. In addition, the effect of LED artificial light on the saponarin production in barley sprouts was evaluated by the light cycle, light quantity, and light quality. The optimal cultivation conditions under artificial light for the growth of barley sprout and saponarin production were most effectively achieved on 220-320 μmol m-2 s-1 of the light quantity with 8 h day-1 of a daylight cycle under 6500K LED combined with red light. Furthermore, blue light was evaluated as the main factor in the biosynthesis of saponarin.
