The purpose of this study was to evaluate food sanitation training program for the improvement of food service operation in day-care centers. Subjects consisted of 55(experimental) and 25(control) foodservice employees and 33(experimental) and 20(control)directors. The results of this study can be summarized as follow: 1. The majority of child care directors(55.0%(control), 46.9%(experimental)) received food sanitation education but 70% of control and 75.7% of experimental group did not conduct any practical sanitation training for employees. 2. The employee's food sanitary practices of control and experimental did not show any significant difference at the pre-test level but only the experimental group showed a significant improvement at the post-test level. 3. The sanitary knowledge of food service employees between two groups did not show any significant difference at the pre-test level, but a significant knowledge improvement was observed at the post-test level such as food poisoning concepts and sanitary equipment maintenance only in experimental group. 4. Dicrectors' sanitary practices affected the employees' sanitary practices but directors' food sanitary knowledge did not have much influence on the employees' knowledge.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess rates for handwashing adherence before and after nursing contact in intensive care units (ICU). Methods: The participants included 90 nurses working in intensive care units of an 800-bed university-affiliated hospital in Gyeonggi Province and 2000-bed university-affiliated hospital in Seoul. Time for handwashing was calculated using the average number of handwashings during an 8-hour day shift. Nursing contact was based on indications as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, 2002). Data were analyzed using frequency, percent, t-test and ${\chi}^2$-test. Results: During an 8-hour day shift, the average number of times that hands were washed was 25.0. The rates were significantly lower before the nursing contact than after the nursing contact when it involved sectioning, observation or contact with a wound, cleaning enteric feeding bag, physical exam, use of gloves, or contact with contaminants. Conclusions: The results indicate that as handwashing rates were significantly lower before nursing contacts than after nursing contacts, there is need to develop strategies to address this deficiency in handwashing.

This study examined the extent to which childcare methods of infant classroom childcare teachers who respect infant rights in the everyday teaching curriculum at day-care centers occurs. To achieve these objectives, a questionnaire survey was conducted on 210 infant classroom childcare teachers who were in charge of the day-care center classrooms located in [G] city of [J] province. The results of the research confirmed that first there were no statistically significant differences when verifying the extent to which childcare methods of infant classroom childcare teachers who respect infant rights in the everyday teaching curriculum at day-care centers according to the final education level, professional experience, age, and education major of the infant classroom childcare teacher. On the other hand, the results confirmed that when analyzing for arrival time for infant classroom childcare instruction at the day-care center and for the time spent taking the infant to and from the bathroom, the infant classroom childcare teachers who had graduated from 2 year colleges showed more respect for infant rights compared to that of infant classroom childcare teachers who had graduated from 4 year universities, and for the arrival time for infant classroom childcare instruction at the day-care center and nap times, the infant classroom childcare teachers who were above 50 years of age showed more respect for infant rights compared to that of infant classroom childcare teachers who were in their 30s and 40s. The results of the research confirmed that there were statistically significant differences for both the age and education major of the infant classroom childcare teachers. When examining each of the sub-factor, the age of the infant classroom childcare teachers, respect for the infant's opinion, respect for individuality, and for information provision, infant classroom childcare teachers older than 50 years of age were shown to exercise a higher level of respect for the infant according to the rule of prioritizing the infant compared to infant classroom childcare teachers in their 30s and 40s, and infant classroom childcare teachers who majored in infant education-related majors exercised a higher level of respect for the infant for respecting freedom and autonomy compared to that of infant classroom childcare teachers who majored in welfare and childcare-related fields. The results of the research confirmed a statistically significant static correlation between the two related variables. Therefore, this suggests that the more childcare methods of infant classroom childcare teachers who respect infant rights in the everyday teaching curriculum at day-care centers, the more childcare methods of infant classroom childcare teachers who respect infant rights occurred according to the rule of prioritizing the infant. These results can be used to establish both quantitatively and qualitatively an excellent and balanced respect for infant rights.
The purpose of this study was to identify the relationships between early childhood socioemotional development and day care experience and daycare quality. The subjects were 116 children, age 5 years old, from 17 daycare centers. The teachers at the 17 daycare centers rated the quality of their facility while the mothers of the 116 children assessed their children's socioemotional development. Daycare experience was composed of: the time period, hours per day, and the child's starting age at enrollment in daycare. Daycare quality was measured by questionnaire developed by Park(1995). Children's socioemotional development was rated by K-CBCL (Oh et al. 1997). The results were as follows. First, starting daycare experience less than 2 years of age, attending more than 6 days per week, and attending more than 8 hours per day of daycare experience were negatively related with children's development. Second, quality of daycare such as child-centered curriculum, abundant interaction between teachers and parents, opportunity for continuing education of teachers, higher levels of rewards and incentives for teachers, and the provision of nutritious food were positively related to the children's development.
The study aims to reveal the factors that impact the decisions made by child care directors in the process of managing their day care centers. The seven participants I surveyed are directors in child care centers located in Seoul and Kyung Ki-Do. Through in-depth interviews and case-by-case studies, I uncovered that there are both external and internal factors that influence a director decisions. The external factors are following the standards set by the law, accommodating the demands set by parents, collaboration with the teachers, accepting the advice of friends and family, and creating realistic conditions. The internal factors are each director's own management philosophy, religious beliefs, and personal experience. This study aims to create policies for establishing and developing educational material so that child care directors will be able to provide an ideal environment for the supervision and education of children.
This study investigated the effects of childcare teachers' role conflict and self leadership on psychological welfare. 64 day care centers located in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do were selected as its subjects and correlations and multiple regression analysis were conducted for 260 childcare teachers from the day care centers. The results of this study were as below. First, in terms of the relationships between childcare teachers' role conflict, self-leadership and psychological welfare, it has been shown that correlations of role stress, role ambiguity, action orientedness, constructive thought, and positive welfare were found in all sub-areas except for the sub-variables of natural reward and negative welfare, whereas correlations of role ambiguity, action orientedness, positive welfare were found also in all sub-areas except for the same sub-variables above. Second, after conducting multiple regression analysis, it has been noted that the variables that affected psychological welfare the most were natural reward followed by role ambiguity and role stress, whereas no statistical significance was found in all other sub-variables.
This study was carried out to examine the effects of nutrition education program developed by Jincheon Public Health Center on preschool children's nutrition knowledge and dietary habits and the parents' dietary attitudes. The subjects of this study were five- and six-year-old children as well as their parents. A 5-week nutrition education program was implemented to 104 children in five day care centers, and 107 children in three day care centers were investigated as a control group. Activity tools designed for each lesson such as puzzles, food magnets, story, songs, Pierrot costume, and balls were used. Nutrition knowledge and dietary habits of children and dietary attitudes of parents were evaluated before and after education. Mean nutrition knowledge score in the education group was significantly higher than that in the control group after education (p < 0.001). Mean dietary habit score of three questions (three meals a day, eating at fixed time, eating breakfast) in the education group was also significantly higher than that in the control group after education (p < 0.01). In addition, parents in the education group showed significantly higher mean dietary attitude score than those in the control group even though they did not receive education (p < 0.001). Our nutrition education program was found to be effective in improving nutrition knowledge and dietary habits in preschool children as well as improving dietary attitudes in their parents.
The purpose of this study is to measure the utilization of a day care service and service quality by SERVQUAL model, also to discuss policy implications based on this. The data analysis is conducted with 208 users of a day care service in Deajeon metropolitan city, Chungnam and Chungbuk area. The analysis result is as follows. First, it shows positive definiteness on tangibles, reliability, responsiveness, assurance, empathy in all categories because perceived level is higher than expectations. Perceived level after using the service is more highly rated than expectations before using it by most of seniors who use the service. Second, service quality is examined in accordance with demographic characteristics, but the difference is not statistically significant. Third, examining service quality in terms of characteristics of centers, it shows statistically significant difference in perceived level depending on management type of location, a number of provided programs per week, and the size of a facility and in expectations depending on established institution. Forth, as a result of examining service quality in accordance with characteristics of service users, there is no meaningful difference statistically.

Purpose : This study was performed to investigate the prevalence of Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) nasal carriage in Korean children attending day care centers. Methods : During September and October 2009, a survey for nasal carriage of S. aureus and methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) was conducted among children attending day care centers located in Seoul with questionnaire survey for evaluation of risk factors of acquisition of MRSA was obtained from their guardians. A culture of the anterior nares swabs using enrichment broth was executed for isolating S. aureus and oxacillin susceptibility was assessed by the disk diffusion method. Results : Out of the 428 children enrolled whose mean age was 55 months old, 163 (38.1%) were colonized with S. aureus. Of the 163 isolates, 40 (24.5%) were MRSA. The nasal carriage rate of S. aureus showed an increasing trend with increase of age. Based on the answer to the questionnaire, 9.2% and 3.6% of children had a recent history of hospitalization and surgery, respectively, and approximately 40% of children had a history of prescription of antibiotics within 1 year prior to enrollment. Of the 428 subjects, 40 (9.3%) were MRSA nasal carriers. Conclusion : S. aureus and MRSA carriage rate of children attending day care center in Korea was 38.1% and 9.3%, respectively. Continued surveillance for nasal carriage rate of S. aureus and MRSA (especially community-associated MRSA) is mandatory.
Concerns about paid-facilities for the elderly with dementia from middle and upper class families have been discussed lately in Korea. Small-scale, home-like group homes for the elderly with dementia were developed in Sweden in the 1980, but they have not been effectively introduced in Korea where they remain a comparatively new concept. The group home, however, would provide a good alternative to Koreans who feel guilty when they have to leave their frail parents in large-scale facilities or hospitals instead of caring for them at home. The aim of this paper is, first, to define the care of the demented elderly who come from upper and middle class families in Korea and, secondly, to discuss the need for group homes to help care for them. A survey was done by questionnaire and was answered by 577 respondents who belonged to middle and upper class families living in Korea in December 2000. Methods of analysis were frequency, mean, and Chi-square. The results of this study were as follows: 1) the traditional notion that the eldest son should be burdened with the primary responsibility for a demented parent has weakened remarkably; 2) a small-scale long-term care facility was considered the most desirable living environment for the demented elderly; 3) the facilities families needed for professional hospitals for victims of dementia, senior citizen centers, large and small-scale long-term care facilities, day-care centers, and short-stay and service housing. The study also revealed that there was low awareness of the group home. The most preferred type of structure for group homes was a single-family detached house, and the most preferred management system was small-scale that could create home-like atmosphere. Additionally the respondents wanted group homes to consist of 6-8 residents with 2-4 persons per room. The results of this study strongly suggest that policy makers should encourage the development of smallscale group homes as an alternative form of housing for the elderly with dementia.
