  • This paper proposes a new fault detection criterion logic that extracts the features of magnetizing inrush and internal faults by making use of Daubechies Wavelet Transform which analyzes distinct features. To prove the effectiveness of proposed method, the paper constructs power system model including power transformer by using EMTP, and collects data through simulation using various fault inception angle and magnetizing inrush. The conclusions implemented by the C program and the Wavemenu of MATLAB Toolbos are more effective and simpler to distinguish inter-turn faults from magnetizing inrush states.

  • This paper presents the technique using wavelet analysis to solve the seismic response of a steam turbine-generator rotor system subjected to earthquake excitations. A brief review of the wavelet transform and its discretization, time-frequency representation of the earthquake wave and the seismic response for a rotor system is presented. The Daubechies wavelet has been used for describing the time-frequency characteristics of the input and the response in case of a recorded accelerogram during 1995 Hyogoken Nanbu earthquake. Also, the results in the wavelet domain has been illustrated through comparison with the time domain simulation results.

  • A wavelet-Galerkin scheme based on the time-dependent Maxwell's equations is presented. Daubechies wavelet with two vanishing wavelet moments is expanded for basis function in spatial domain and Yee's leap-frog approach is applied. The shifted interpolation property of Daubechies wavelet family leads to the simplified formulations for inhomogeneous media without the additional matrices for the integral or material operator. The stability condition is formulated. The dispersion characteristics are analyzed and compared with those of finite difference time domain and multiresolution time domain methods. The analyses show the excellent trade-off between the regularity and the support width of the basis function. Although the basis function has only two vanishing wavelet moments, it is enough to provide negligible dispersive error in the numerical analysis and its compact support enables only several involved terms per nodes. The storage effectiveness, execution time reduction and accuracy of this scheme are demonstrated by calculating the resonant frequencies of the homogeneous and inhomogeneous cavities.

  • This paper is a study on method that the EZW algorithm is proposed effective compression technique of wavelet transformed image. The EZW algorithm is encoded by zerotree coding technique using self-similarity of wavelet coefficients. If the coefficient is larger than the threshold a POS coded, if the coefficients is smaller than minus the threshold a NEG is coded. If the coefficient is the root of a zerotree than a ZTR is coded and finally, if the coefficient is smaller then the threshold but it is not the root of a zerotree, than an IZ is coded. This process is repeated until all the wavelet coefficients have been encoded completely. This paper was compared to EZW algorithm and a widely available version of JPEG. As the results of compare, it is shown that the PSNR of the EZW algorithm is better than JPEG.

  • Wavelet transforms are used for implementing digital watermarking methods in the frequency domain. In this paper, we construct the digital watermarking using various wavelet transforms such as the Daubechies transform, Coiflets transform, Symlets transform and the biorthogonal transform, and we compare each digital watermarking method with the others. We investigate the preservation of the watermark after the data compression attack based on the discrete on the discrete cosine transform. We show that the biorthogonal wavelet, denoted by bior3.5, has the best performance among the wavelet types we selected in an experiment.

  • The noise suppression of time domain NMR data by discrete wavelet transform with high order Daubechies wavelet coefficients exhibits severe peak distortion and incomplete noise suppression near real signal. However, the fact that even a shift averaged Harr wavelet transform with a set of Daubechies wavelet coefficients (1/2, -l/2) can be used as a new and excellent tool to distinguish real peaks from the noise contaminated NMR signal is introduced. New algorithms of shift averaged Harr wavelet were developed and quantitatively evaluated in terms of threshold and signal to noise ratio (SNR).

  • A generator plays an important role in transferring an electric power to power system networks. The generator protection systems in Korea have been imported and operated through a tum-key from overseas entirely. Therefore, a study of the generator protection field has in urgent need for a stable operation of the imported goods, and for preparation of next generation protection system. The paper describes the fault detection algorithm using WT(Wave!et Transform) of currents for a generator protection. The fault current signals after executing a terminal fault modeling collect using a MA TLAB package, and calculate the wavelet coefficients through the process of a multi -level decomposition (MLD). The proposed algorithm for a fault detection using the Daubechies WT (wavelet transform) was executed with a C language for the command line function and for the real time realization after analyzing MATLAB's graphical interface. The advanced technique had complemented the defects of a DFT by applying a Daubechies WT. and had improved faster a speed and more accurate of fault discriminant than a conventional DFR.

  • Wavelet transform is a new method fro electric power quality analysis. Several types of mother wavelets are compared using voltage sag data. Investigations on the use of some mother wavelets, namely Daubechies, Symlets, Coiflets, Biorthogonal, are carried out. On the basis of extensive investigations, optimal mother wavelets for the detection of voltage sag are chosen. The recommended mother wavelet is 'Daubechies 4(db4)' wavelet. 'db4', the most commonly applied mother wavelet in the power quality analysis, can be used most properly in disturbance phenomena which occurs rapidly for a short time. This paper presents a discrete wavelet transform approach for determining the beginning time and end time of voltage sags. The technique is based on utilising the maximum value of d1(at scale 1) coefficients in multiresolution analysis(MRA) based on the discrete wavelet transform. The procedure is fully described, and the results are compared with other methods for determining voltage sag duration, such as the RMS voltage and STFT(Short-Time Fourier Transform) methods. As a result, the voltage sag detection using wavelet transform appears to be a reliable method for detecting and measuring voltage sags in power quality disturbance analysis.

  • This paper presents a study on the performance analysis on probability of bit error for wavelet in 4-ary SWSK system. The formula for the bit error probability in 4-ary SWSK system was derived from the conventional method. This paper experimentally implements the probability of bit error for Daubechies, Biorthogonal, Coiflet and Symlet wavelet using the conventional formula of bit error probability. Additionally, the performance of bit error probability is analyzed for the period and the number of wavelet taps. Based on the results, we confirmed that the performance of Coiflet and Symlet wavelet for the probability of bit error is superior to the other wavelet, and their probability of bit error are similar.

  • In this paper, the different frequency component and time informations from an EMI signal are extracted simultaneously using a wavelet transform and the results of transform in the time and frequency domain are analyzed. Frequencies are extracted from the EMI signal by performing the multiresolution analysis using the Daubechies-4 filter coefficients and the time information through the results of wavelet transform. We have tried the correlation analysis to evaluate the results of wavelet transform. We have chosen the optimal wavelet function for an object signal by comparing the transformed results of various wavelet functions and verified the simulation examples of waveform and harmonic analysis using a wavelet transform. We have proved the denoising effect to the EMI signal using the soft thresholding technique.
