  • New information technology developments continue to have a significant impact on civil engineering fields. The objective of this study is to develop STEP-based database which will be able to store and manipulate the information of steel bridges over the life cycle. In this study, there are three steps to fulfil the objective to build database and develop the application module for that data model practically and effectively To begin with, STEP methodology for a development of data model has been used for modelling data structure. And then the data model for a steel bridge's shape and structural analysis information has been made up by using AP203 (configuration controlled design) and AP203 (composite and metallic structural analysis and related design) which are the international standard in STEP Lastly, the application module for an access to information of steel bridges has been developed by means of already made database. This study show efficiently the prototype of developing information system with the existing standard technology in civil engineering fields.

  • The purpose of this study is to achieve two goals. One is to construct knowledge database which could read and analyse electronic documents in place of researchers for the purpose of improvement of research productivity, and the other is to develop automated patent application engine which is connected to the knowledge database. This study discusses the possibilities and appropriateness of two systems mentioned earlier, and provides elements necessary to system developments and technical problems through model development.

  • In shipbuilding industry, welding position are usually flat and vertical position at the erection stage. Application of SAW and EGW for these positions makes it possible to achieve enhanced productivity and high quality. But owing to their large size and weight it is difficult to apply these techniques in short and narrow regions. To overcome this problem, our company developed light weight and compact size 4-axis welding carriage which perform 3D weaving. The purpose of this study is to explain the development and application of intelligent welding carriage using 3D weaving pattern that can fill a large amount of welds and thereby making it possible to achieve high quality of welding. This study shows 3D weaving pattern, development of weaving database, and skill of adaptive control response for the variable gap. Also, it shows the results of procedure qualification test for the AH-grade steel when applied to the intelligent welding carriage.

  • In this paper, we demonstrate the implementation case using component based development tool under development process for application developments. The tool suggested provides the programming environment for the development of distributed manufacturing applications primarily. The development tool is classified into visual component, logic component, data component, knowledge component, neural net component, and service component which is a core component for the support component edit and execution. We applied the tool to the domain of the design and routing plan to retrieve existing similar design models in database, initiate a model, generate a process plan, and store the new model in the database automatically. Utilizing the tool, it integrates a geometric modeler, engineering/manufacturing database, and knowledge sources over the Internet.

  • This paper discusses the development of an educational web-based power flow program for undergraduate students. The interaction between lectures and users can be much enhanced via the web-based programs which result in the student's learning effectiveness on the power flow problem. However the difficulties for developing web-based application programs are that there can be the numerous unspecified users to access the application programs. To overcome the aforementioned multi-users problem and to develope the educational web-based power flow program, we have revised the system architecture, the modeling of application programs, and database which efficiently and effectively manages the complex data sets related to the power flow analysis program. The developed application program is composed of the physical three tiers where the middle tier is logically divided into two kinds of application programs. The divided application programs are interconnected by using the Web-service based on XML (Extended Markup Technology) and HTTP (Hyper Text Transfer Protocol) which make it possible the distributed computing technology Also, this paper describes the method of database modeling to handle effectively when the numerous users change the parameters of the power system to compare the results of the base case.

  • Knapsack problems represent many business application such as cargo loading, project selection, and capital budgeting. In this research we developed a knapsack problem solver based on Martello-Toth algorithm using a relational database management system on the PC platform. The solver used the menu-driven user interface. The solver can be easily integrated with the database of decision support system because the solver can access the database to retrieve the data for the model and to store the result directly.

  • Using database obtained by means of experiments, or using the synamic behaviour analysis program of automotive shock absorber, database system is constructed within the limits of adequate reliability. Thus constructed data base can be used to find out corresponding specification of shock absorber design parameters to the required damping ability and tolerance.

  • The object of this work is to develop an assessment system for pipeline integrity. The internal algorithm and the database of the system are described in this paper. The system consists of four module applications; the effect of corrosion in pipeline, crack, SCC (stress corrosion cracking) and fatigue module. The database of the system is separated to mainly four parts; geometry of pipeline, material properties, boundary condition and general properties. This system may give a guideline for maintenance and modifications.
