  • As most of information systems developed are data-centric rather than process-centric, it is difficult for users to understand and manage the system from the viewpoint of work processes. To resolve the problem of the data-centric design, we propose a new method to design WFMSs(Workflow Management Systems), which are focused on processes and modified from current information engineering methods. In this research, the drawing approval and engineering change approval process of a K manufacturing company has been analyzed as a sample process. This method takes two steps, i.e., process analysis and system design. In the prosess analysis, data and processes are analyzed, and functions and tasks are derived from the processes. In the system design, a data model for the operation of WFMS is designed, and based on this data model, build-time and run-time functions of WFMS are designed.

  • The purpose of this investigation was to know correlation of mean values between centric occlusion and centric relation by the cephalogram in Angle's Class Ⅰ and Ⅲ malocclusion subjects. 22 adults with Angle's Class Ⅰ malocclusion (17 men and 5 women, 21 to 27 years of age) and 14 adults with Angle's Class Ⅲ malocclusion (10 men and 4 women, 21 to 27 years of age) were selected from the dental students in Yonsei University. Each subject was given two lateral cephalometric radiographies and cephalometric analysis was performed. All data from these analyses was recorded and statistically processed with CYBER computer system. 1. The results were obtained as follows: There was a strong positive correlation between centric occlusion and centric relation in all subjects with Angle's Class Ⅰ and Ⅲ malocclusion. 2. In Angle's Class Ⅰ malocclusion, measurements in lower facial height revealed significant difference between centric occlusion and centric relation (P<0.05). In Angle's Class Ⅲmalocclusion, measurements in facial axis angle, mandibular plane angle, convexity of A point, lower incisor protrusion, lower facial height revealed significant difference between centric occlusion and centric relation (P<0.05). 3. When the mandible was moved from centric occlusion to centric relation, the mean distance of mandibular movement was 1.27㎜ (0.2-2.8㎜) in Angle's Class Ⅰ malocclusion, 1.70㎜ (0.55-4.15㎜) in Angle's Class Ⅲ malocclusion, and 1.44㎜ (0.2-4.15㎜) in all subjects.

  • Since machine learning was invented, there have been many different machine learning-based algorithms, from shallow learning to deep learning models, that provide solutions to the classification tasks. But then it poses a problem in choosing a suitable classification algorithm that can improve the classification/detection efficiency for a certain network context. With that comes whether an algorithm provides good performance, why it works in some problems and not in others. In this paper, we present a data-centric analysis to provide a way for selecting a suitable classification algorithm. This data-centric approach is a new viewpoint in exploring relationships between classification performance and facts and figures of data sets.

  • Information Centric Networking that uses content name instead of IP address as routing identifier can handle challenges such as traffic explosion and user mobility, but it also suffers from scalability and incompatibility problems. In this paper by combining the concept of software defined networking and Internet end to end arguments, we propose a wide area deployable software defined information centric networking service model named SD-ICN. SD-ICN employs a dual space structure that separates edge service network and core transmission network. The enhanced SDN techniques are used in edge service network in order to implement intelligent data routing and caching, while traditional IP technique is reserved in core transmission network so as to provide wide area high speed data transmission. Besides, a distributed name resolution system based on the cooperation of different controllers is also presented. The prototype experiments in our campus network show that SD-ICN can be deployed in a scalable and incremental way with no modification of the core network, and can support typical communication modes such as multicast, mobility, multihoming, load balancing, and multipath data transmission effectively.

  • This study presents a noble scheme for distributed and parallel simulations with optimized agent placement for simulation instances. The traditional parallel simulation has some limitations in that it does not provide sufficient performance even though using multiple resources. The main reason for this discrepancy is that supporting parallelism inevitably requires additional costs in addition to the base simulation cost. We present a comprehensive study of parallel simulation architectures, execution flows, and characteristics. Then, we identify critical challenges for optimizing large simulations for parallel instances. Based on our cost-benefit analysis, we propose a novel approach to overcome the performance constraints of agent-based parallel simulations. We also propose a solution for eliminating the synchronizing cost among local instances. Our method ensures balanced performance through optimal deployment of agents to local instances and an adaptive agent placement scheme according to the simulation load. Additionally, our empirical evaluation reveals that the proposed model achieves better performance than conventional methods under several conditions.

  • In this paper, we present a technique that executes MPI parallel programs, that are developed on processor-centric computer architecture, more efficiently on memory-centric computer architecture without program modification. The technique we present here improves performance by replacing low-speed data communication over the network of MPI library functions with high-speed data communication using the property called fast large shared memory of memory-centric computer architecture. The technique we present in the paper is implemented in two programs. The first program is a modified MPI library called MC-MPI-LIB that runs MPI parallel programs more efficiently on memory-centric computer architecture preserving the semantics of MPI library functions. The second program is a simulation program called MC-MPI-SIM that simulates the performance of memory-centric computer architecture on processor-centric computer architecture. We developed and tested the programs on distributed systems environment deployed on Docker based virtualization. We analyzed the performance of several MPI parallel programs and showed that we achieved better performance on memory-centric computer architecture. Especially we could see very high performance on the MPI parallel programs with high communication overhead.

  • The scale of graph data has been increased rapidly because of the growth of mobile Internet applications and the proliferation of social network services. This brings upon the imminent necessity of efficient distributed and parallel graph processing approach since the size of these large-scale graphs are easily over a capacity of a single machine. Currently, there are two popular parallel graph processing approaches, vertex-centric graph processing and block centric processing. While a vertex-centric graph processing approach can easily be applied to the parallel processing system, a block-centric graph processing approach is proposed to compensate the drawbacks of the vertex-centric approach. In these systems, the initial quality of graph partition affects to the overall performance significantly. However, it is a very difficult problem to divide the graph into optimal states at the initial phase. Thus, several dynamic load balancing techniques have been studied that suggest the progressive partitioning during the graph processing time. In this paper, we present a load balancing algorithms for the block-centric graph processing approach where most of dynamic load balancing techniques are focused on vertex-centric systems. Our proposed algorithm focus on an improvement of the graph partition quality by dynamically reassigning blocks in runtime, and suggests block split strategy for escaping local optimum solution.

  • Content centric networking (CCN) is regarded as promising internet architecture because it can provide network efficiency in terms of bandwidth consumption by separating contents from a specific network location and decrease network congestion events. However, the application of a CCN does not widely consider the side effects of mobile devices, particularly mobile content sources. For content source mobility, a full routing update is required. Therefore, in this study, a route optimization scheme is proposed for mobile content sources in a CCN environment to provide low communication overhead, short download time, and low resource consumption. The proposed scheme establishes a direct path between content requesters and a mobile content source for the exchange of interest and data packets using interest-piggybacked data packets. Based on the inherent CCN naming characteristics, the content source does not know the name prefix of the content consumer, and thus the proposed optimized CCN scheme utilizes the content router in the home domain of the content source.
