  • The objective in this research is to determine the feasibility of using changes on the dynamic properties of a reinforced concrete (RC) structure to identify different levels of seismic induced damage. Damping ratio and natural frequency changes in a RC bridge column are analyzed using different signal processing techniques like Hilbert Transforms, Random Decrement and Wavelet Transforms. The data used in the analysis was recorded during a full-scale RC bridge column shake table test. The structure was subjected to ten earthquake excitations that induced different levels of inelastic demand on the column. In addition, low-intensity white noises were applied to the column in-between earthquakes. The results obtained show that the use of the damping ratio and natural frequency of vibration as damage indicators is arguable.

  • The introduction of the fast Fourier transform(FFT),an efficient computational algorithm for the discrete Fourier transform(DFT) by Cooley and Tukey(1965), has brought to the limelight various other discrete transforms. Some of the analog functions from which these transforms have been derived date back to the early 1920's, for example, Walsh functions (Walsh, 1923) and Hadamard Transform(Enomoto et al, 1965). Fast algorithms developed for the forward transform are equally applicable, exept for minor changes, to the inverse transform. In this paper, we present a simple pipelined Hadamard matrix(HM) which is used to develop a fast algorithm for the Hadamard Processor (HP). The Fast Hadamard Transform(FHT) can be derived using matrix partitioning techniques. The HP system is incorporated through a modular design which permits tailoring to meet a wide range of video data link applications. Emphasis has been placed on a low cost, a low power design suitable for airbone system and video codec.

  • This paper introduces an adaptive wavelet transform based on the lifting scheme, which is applied to signal denoising. The wavelet representation using orthogonal wavelet bases has received widespread attention. Recently the lifting scheme has been developed for the construction of biorthogonal wavelets in the spatial domain. Wavelet transforms are performed through three stages: the first stage or Lazy wavelet splits the data into two subsets, even and odd, the second stage calculates the wavelet coefficients (highpass) as the failure to interpolate or predict the odd set using the even, and the third stage updates the even set using neighboring odd points (wavelet coefficients) to compute the scaling function coefficients (lowpass). In this paper, we adaptively find some of the prediction coefficients for better representation of signals and this customizes wavelet transforms to provide an efficient framework for denoising. Special care has been given to the boundaries, where we design a set of different prediction coefficients to reduce the prediction error.

  • Wavelet transforms are introduced as a new tool to distinguish real peaks from the noise contaminated NMR data in this paper. New algorithms of two wavelet transforms including Daubechies wavelet transform as a discrete and orthogonal wavelet transform (DWT) and Morlet wavelet transform as a continuous and nonorthogonal wavelet transform(CWT) were developed fer noise elimination. DWT and CWT method were successfully applied to the noise reduction in spectrum. The inevitable distortion of NMR spectral baseline and the imperfection in noise elimination were observed in DWT method while CWT method gives a better baseline ahape and a well noise suppressed spectrum.

  • In the present article, the effects of three thermal relaxation times in living tissue under the three-phaselag (TPL) bioheat model are introduced. Using the Laplace transforms, the analyticalsolution of the temperature and the resulting thermal damagesin living tissues are obtained. The experimental data are used to validate the analytical solutions. By the formulations of Arrhenius, the thermal damage of tissue is estimated. Numerical outcomes for the temperature and the resulting of thermal damages are presented graphically. The effects of parameters, such as thermalrelaxation times, blood perfusion rate on tissue temperature are also discussed in detail.

  • This study seeks to develop analytical solutions for the biothermoelastic model without accounting for energy dissipation. These solutions are then applied to estimate the temperature changes induced by external heating sources by integrating relevant empirical data characterizing the biological tissue of interest. The distributions of temperature, displacement, and strain were obtained by utilizing the eigenvalues approach with the Laplace transforms and numerical inverse transforms method. The impacts of the rate of blood perfusion and the metabolic activity parameter on thermoelastic behaviors were discussed specifically. The temperature, displacement, and thermal strain results are visually represented through graphical representations.

  • A motion handling technique that transforms existing animation motion data to a mathematically well-defined form. The transformed data can be utilized in any kind of autonomous motion creation process that handles such cases as changed environment, structure (kinematic / dynamic) modification, or changed constraints. To overcome the computational burden of traditional spacetime optimization, we divide full motion data frame into several parts, and we applied the transformation technique to each part using an optimizing tool(CFSQP). To show Ire feasibility of the proposed method, a comparison study results with traditional technique is included.

  • Discrete Wavelet Transforms (DWTs) are recent mathematics, and begin to be used in various fields. The wavelet transform can be used to compress the signal and image due to its inherent properties. We applied the wavelet transform compression and reconstruction to the neutron cross section data. Numerical tests illustrate that tile signal compression using wavelet is very effective to reduce the data saving spaces.

  • Wavelet transforms provide basis functions for time-frequency analysis and have properties that are particularly useful for the compression of analogue point on wave transient and disturbance power system signals. This paper evaluates the compression properties of the discrete wavelet transform using actual power system data. The results presented in the paper indicate that reduction ratios up to 10:1 with acceptable distortion are achievable. The paper discusses the application of the reduction method for expedient fault analysis and protection assessment.
