A Study on Temporal Variations of Geomagnetic Transfer Functions and Polarization Values Obtained at Cheongyang Geomagnetic Observatory (청양 지자기관측소에서 획득된 지자기전달함수와 분극값의 시간변동성에 대한 연구)

  • We analyzed a total of six months of geomagnetic data obtained at Cheonyang observatory, which is operated by Korean Meteorological Administration, to monitor earthquake precursors. Geomagnetic transfer functions (GTFs) and polarization values, which reflect the time-variations of the resistivity of subsurface, were estimated from 3-component geomagnetic data. The time-variant fluctuations were compared with the earthquake events occurred in the same period. Now that the daily GTFs show fairly irregular variations, we can not identify any correlation with the already occurred earthquakes and Kp index. On the other hand, we detect clear increases of the Ultra-Low-Frequency (ULF) band polarization values before the earthquakes, but the similar features are also observed even though the earthquake did not occur. This result may indicate that these time-variations are not just due to the earthquake precursor. For further understanding about these results, we need to investigate the relationship between the previous earthquake events and the geomagnetic data of other observatories.

A Study On the Retention Time Distribution with Plasma Damage Effect

  • The control of the data retention time is a main issue for realizing future high density dynamic random access memory. There are several leakage current mechanisms in which the stored data disappears. The mechanisms of data disappear is as follow, 1 )Junction leakage current between the junction, 2) Junction leakage current from the capacitor node contact, 3)Sub-threshold leakage current if the transfer transistor is affected by gate etch damage etc. In this paper we showed the plasma edge damage effect to find out data retention time effectiveness. First we measured the transistor characteristics of forward and reverse bias. And junction leakage characteristics are measured with/without plasma damage by HP4145. Finally, we showed the comparison TRET with etch damage, damage_cure_RTP and hydrogen_treatment. As a result, hydrogen_treatment is superior than any other method in a curing plasma etch damage side.

  • Forecasting possible failure characteristics is very important in maintenance planning because it helps in predicting any future failures and determining the optimum replacement interval. This paper examines the time.to-failure distribution of the transfer gearbox of a J79 engine by using a probability plotting technique which is one of the most convenient techniques for reliability analysis. Various probability distributions are evaluated for determining the suitable probability distribution of the failure data of the transfer gearbox, and the resulting correlation coefficient indicates that failure data have a lognormal distribution. The expected number of unscheduled maintenance actions and the optimum replacement interval for various values of cost ratios are determined.

The heat transfer characteristics of viscoelastic non-newtonian fluids in the entrance region of circular tube flows (원형관속을 유동하는 점탄성 유체의 입구 영역 열전달 특성에 관한 연구)

  • The heat transfer characteristics of the drag reducing polymer solutions are investigated experimentally in the thermal entrance region of circular tube flows. Fluids used in experiments are the aqueous solutions of high molecular polymer, polyacrylamide Separan AP-273 and the range of polymer concentrations is from 20 to 1000 wppm. Two stainless steel tubes with inside diameter 8.5mm(L/D=712) and 10.3mm(L/D=1160) are used for the heat transfer flow loops. The flow loop is set up to measure friction factors and heat transfer coefficients of test sections in two different modes; the recirculating flow system and once-through flow system. The test tubes are heated directly by electricity to apply the constant heat flux boundary conditions to the wall. Three different types of adaptors are used to observe the effects of the upstream flow conditions of the heat transfer test sections. The viscosity and characteristic relaxation time of the test fluids circulating in the flow system are measured by the capillary tube viscometer and falling ball viscometer at regular time intervals. The installed adaptors exhibit slight effect on the entrance heat transfer of Newtonian fluid. However, no noticeable effects are observed for the entrance heat transfer of the drag reducing fluids. The order of magnitude of the thermal entrance lengths of the drag reducing fluids which follow the minimum friction asymptote is much longer than that of Newtonian fluids in turbulent flows. A new dimensionless parameter, the viscoelastic Graetz number, is defined and all the experimental data are recasted in terms of the viscoelastic Graetz number. The local Nusselt number of the viscoelastic fluids is represented as a function of flow behavior index n and the viscoelastic Graetz number. As degradation continues the viscosity and the characteristic relaxation time of the testing fluids decrease. Weissenberg number defined by the relaxation time and D/V appears to be a proper dimensionless parameter in describing degradation effects on heat transfer of the viscoelastic fluids.

  • In EBCOT, the context modeling process takes excessive calculation time and this paper proposed a method to reduce this calculation time. That is, if the finest resolution coefficient is less than a pre-defined transfer factor the coefficient and its descendents skip the context modeling process. There is a trade-off relationship between the calculation time and the image quality or the amount of output data such that as this threshold value increases, the calculation time and the amount of output data decreases, but the image degradation increases. The experimental results showed that in this range the resulting reduction rate in calculation time was from 3% to 64% in average, the reduction rate in output data was from 32% to 73% in average.

Design of a Pipeline Processor for the Automated ECG Diagnosis in Real Time (실시간 심전도 자동진단을 위한 파이프라인 프로세서의 설계)

  • This paper describes a design of hardware system for real time automatic diagnosis of ECG arrhythmia based on pipeline processor consisting of three microcomputer. ECG data is acquisited by 12 bit A/D converter with hardware QRS triggered detector. Four diagnostic parameters-heart rate, morpholigy, axis, and ST segment-are used for the classification and the diagnosis of arrhythmia. The functions of the main CPU were distributed and processed with three microcomputers. Therefore the effective data process and the real time process using microcomputer can be obtained. The interconnection structure consisting of two common memory unit is designed to decrease the delay time caused by data transfer between processors and be which the delay time can be taken 1% of one clock period.

  • The MS card data transfer system using blue-tooth protocol ran communicate the MS card data wirelessly and does not take an extra communication expense which is a weakness point of existing wireless communication system. This Blue-tooth system, which has excellent security and no extra communication expense, can efficiently communicate data of the place ,where can be solved with small scale wireless network, such as the theme-park or gasoline-station. Existing wireless communication system compose network using wireless-LAN protocol which has extra communication expense, or with RF protocol which has poor security. But this system suitable for LAN because it has not extra communication expense and it has excellent security cause frequency-hopping of Blue-tooth protocol. The MS card data transfer system using blue-tooth protocol has low power, high performance RISC processor and large scale 16-gray graphic LCD which is suitable for portable unit. The MS card data transfer system can efficiently control depot for a long time because it has low power, excellent security and no extra communication expense.

  • This paper charcterizes dynamics of cold tandem minns, and constructs it state-space model of which are linear time invariant, using subspace method. Step responses particularly show the influence on mass transfer delay. Input-output data set are obtained form nonlinear differential equations including mass transfer delay and nonlinearity. It is shown that the identified state-apace model well approximates the original systems dynamics.
