  • Fouling causes serious maintenance problems on heat exchanger tubes and process facilities. To avoid such fouling problems, numerous efforts have been tried. e.g., diagnosis of fouling, reducing and eliminating the fouling. etc.. The objective of the present study is to develop an innovative diagnostic system of fouling, which can detect the scaling attached to the wall non-homogeneously. The performance of the diagnostic system has been evaluated with a scaling simulator that generates scaling on tested tube wall. The measured values with the diagnostic system were compared with the amounts of the scaling generated by the simulator. In addition to, we showed the data that have been executed in field test for reliability verification.

  • The objective of this study is to develop a method that is able to realize autonomous traveling for tractor-like robot on the slope terrain. A neural network (NN) and genetic algorithms (GAs) have been used for resolving nonlinear problems in this system. The NN is applied to create a vehicle simulator that is capable to describe the motion of the tractor robot on the slope, while it is impossible by the common dynamics way. Using this vehicle simulator, a control law optimized by GAs was established and installed in the computer to control the steering wheel of tractor robot. The autonomous traveling carried out on a 14-degree slope had initial successful results.

  • This study is about a semi-active quarter car simulation method including a MR(magneto-rheological) damper. The MR damper was modeled as Spencer model that can capture nonlinear and hysteretic behavior. The parameters of the Spencer model were extracted from a random excitation test and optimum treatment of the test data. Then, a suspension control algorithm based on Sky-hook theory was applied for the quarter car simulation. Also, an experiment was dong using a quarter car simulator to confirm the simulation results with the Spencer MR damper model

  • The test method using simulator to objectively measure the steering feel from several drivers was proposed. It has also described the ideas to analyse the principal factors affecting the steering feel of the driver using the correlation analysis of the measured data and the questionnaire. Proportional Derivative(PD) controller has been used to measure the steering feel, and the control parameters have been selected to obtain the optimal steering feel. Membership frictions of Sugeno fuzzy model are constructed from the assist torque values calculated from PD controller at each steering state. Moreover to verify the performance, this fuzzy controller has been compared with the another fuzzy controller of which membership frictions are derived from the knowledge of drivers. As a result it can be concluded that the proposed fuzzy controller improves the steering feel at each steering state more than any other conventional methods.

  • This study proposes the construction of attractor simulator for cutting characteristics evaluation of non-ferrous metals. Also this paper aims to find the optimal cutting conditions of diamond turning machine by measuring surface form and roughness to perform the cutting experiment of non-ferrous metals, which are aluminum, with diamond tool. As well, according to change cutting conditions such as feed rate, cutting force and surface roughness are measured by tool dynamometer. Trajectory changes in the attractor indicated a substantial difference in fractal characteristics. Constructed attractor in this study can be used for cutting characteristics evaluation of non-ferrous metals

  • Recently, optical 3D scanners are frequently used for inspection of parts, assembly and manufacturing tooling. One of the advantages is being able to measure a large area fast and accurately. Owing to recent advances in high-resolution image sensing technology, high power illumination technology, and high speed microprocessors, the accuracy and resolution of optical 3D scanners are being improved rapidly. In order to measure the entire geometry of objects, multiple scans have to be performed in various setups by moving either the objects or the scanner. This paper introduces novel methods to measure the entire geometry of objects by automatically changing the setups and then aligning the scanned data in a single coordinate system.

  • When a fault occurs in power transmission systems, protective relays play a roles of protecting the power system according to there setting values. Therefor, it is important that protective relays have high selectivity and sensitivity by correct setting the involves a large volume of data and is a complicated and very tedious, therefore vulnerable to the human errors. Also, it is very difficult to verify that the relays have correct operating parameters before the fault occurs. This paper porposed a method to testify the reliability of realys by showing the operation response to faults in the simulation of the real power system operation environment.
