  • In this paper, we propose a rotation resistant robust logo embedding watermarking technique. Geometric manipulations make the detection process very complex and difficult. Watermark embedding in the normalized image directly suffers from smoothing effect due to the interpolation during the image normalization. This can be avoided by estimating the transform parameters using image normalization angle and moments, instead of embedding in the normalized image. Conventional rotation resistant schemes that use full frame transform. In this paper we adopt DCT and calculate masking using a spatio-frequency localization of the $8{\times}8$ block DCT coefficients. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is robust against rotation process.

  • Near infrared, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy has shown significant potential for in vitro and in vivo assessment of metabolic status. However, the complexity of living samples can lead to ambiguous results. This presentation will focus on methods that provide controls for scattering and absorption estimation in tissue. For robust estimations, normalization procedures will be shown which can greatly improve interpretability of results. Normalization based on time, location and spectral property will be shown with data from models, tissue phantoms and in vivo measurements. In particular, interpretation of NIR spectra associated with major respiratory constituents will be examined. Measurement of constituents such as hemoglobin, myoglobin, tissue edema, and lactate will be shown. Results suggest that NIR may provide a valuable tool for physiological monitoring in critical care research and practice.

  • This paper describes the automated call routing for call center system based on speech recognition. We focus on the task of automatically routing telephone calls based on a users fluently spoken response instead of touch tone menus in an interactive voice response system. Vector based call routing algorithm is investigated and normalization method suggested. Call center database which was collected by KT is used for call routing experiment. Experimental results evaluating call-classification from transcribed speech are reported for that database. In case of small training data, an average call routing error reduction rate of 9% is observed when normalization method is used.

  • We propose a noise reduced risk aversion index for measuring risk aversion through a laboratory experiment to overcome disadvantages of the multiple pricing list format developed by Holt and Laury (2002). We use randomized multiple list choices with coarser classification and reward weighting, supplement the rank of risk aversion with extra individual characteristics of risk attitude, and construct an index of risk aversion by standardizing the risk aversion ranking with quantile normalization. Our method reduces multiple switching problems that noisy decision makers mistakenly commit in experimental approaches, so that it is free of the framing effect which severely occurred in the HL. Furthermore, the index doesn't utilize any specific utility function or probability weighting, which allows researcher to hold the independence axiom. Since our noise reduced index of risk aversion has many good traits, it is widely used and applied to reveal fundamental characteristics of risk-related behaviors in economics and finance regardless of experimental environment.

  • Research performance evaluation in Korean universities follows strict guidelines that specify scoring systems for publication venue categories and formulas for co-authorship credit allocation. To find out how the standards differ across universities and how they differ from bibliometric research evaluation measures, this study analyzed 25 standards from major Korean universities and rankings produced by applying standards and bibliometric measures such as publication and citation counts, normalized impact score, and h-index to the publication data of 195 tenure-track professors of library and information science departments in 35 Korean universities. The study also introduced a novel impact score normalization method to refine the methodology from prior studies. The results showed the university standards to be mostly similar to one another but quite different from citation-driven measures, which suggests the standards are not quite successful in quantifying the quality of research as originally intended.

  • For sensitive and accurate gene expression analysis, normalization of gene expression data against housekeeping genes is required. There are conventional housekeeping gene (e.g. ACT) that primarily function as an internal control of transcription. In this study, we performed an in silico analysis of 278 rice gene expression samples (GSM) in order to identify the gene that is most consistently expressed. Based on this analysis, we identified novel candidate housekeeping genes that displayed improved stability among the cross experimental conditions. Furthermore four of the most conventional housekeeping genes were included in our 30 other housekeeping genes among the most stable genes. Therefore, these 30 genes can he used to normalize transcription results in gene expression studies on rice at a broad range of experimental conditions.

  • Pose-variation factors present a significant problem in 2D face recognition. To solve this problem, there are various approaches for a 3D face acquisition system which was able to generate multi-view images. However, this created another pose estimation problem in terms of normalizing the 3D face data. This paper presents a 3D head pose-normalization method using 2D and 3D interaction. The proposed method uses 2D information with the AAM(Active Appearance Model) and 3D information with a 3D normal vector. In order to verify the performance of the proposed method, we designed an experiment using 2.5D face recognition. Experimental results showed that the proposed method is robust against pose variation.

  • Advance of neuroimaging technique has greatly influenced recent brain research field. Among various neuroimaging modalities, positron emission tomography has played a key role in molecular neuroimaging though functional MRI has taken over its role in the cognitive neuroscience. As the analysis technique for PET data is more sophisticated, the complexity of the method is more increasing. Despite the wide usage of the neuroimaging techniques, the assumption and limitation of procedures have not often been dealt with for the clinician and researchers, which might be critical for reliability and interpretation of the results. In the current paper, steps of voxel-based statistical analysis of PET including preprocessing, intensity normalization, spatial normalization, and partial volume correction will be revisited in terms of the principles and limitations. Additionally, new image analysis techniques such as surface-based PET analysis, correlational analysis and multimodal imaging by combining PET and DTI, PET and TMS or EEG will also be discussed.

  • This paper presents the result of a study on the distribution characteristics of salt contaminants in the west coast region, from Inchon to Yearsoo, of South Korea. To evaluate the distribution characteristics of salt contaminants, we had measured the equivalent salt deposit density(ESDD) with brush wiping method for thirteen month(from May 1999 to June 2000). Under the consideration on the measuring interval and method, normalization method was applied for the ESDD data. Besides the measurement, the chemical analysis (chromatography) was carried to investigate the relationship, between the electrical property and the amount of specific ingredient, such as sodium, magnesium and chloride. From the result, we could get the representative value of contamination for each site and distribution characteristics of salt contaminants with the distance from sea in the west coast.

  • Inclusion of the ground state of $^{16}O$ is investigated for a study of elastic ${\alpha}-^{12}C$ scattering for the l = 0 channel at low energies in effective field theory. We employ a Markov chain Monte Carlo method for the parameter fitting and find that the uncertainties of the fitted parameters are significantly improved compared to those of our previous study. We then calculate the asymptotic normalization constants of the $0^+$ states of $^{16}O$ and compare them with the experimental data and the previous theoretical estimates. We discuss implications of the results of the present work.
