  • This paper presents the simulation modeling and analysis of variable wind speed turbine system(VWTS) using the doubly fed induction generator(DFIG) connected the back to back converter system in the rotor side. In the simulation, using the model system which has the 660[kW] rated power, blade control and the dual converter system are modeled for verifying the control characteristics. The VWTS is controlled by the optimal pitch angle for maximum output power under the rated wind speed, and for the rated output power over the rated wind speed. And also power factor is controlled by the reactive power. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, simulation results are compared with the actual data from the V47 VWTS located in Hangwon wind farm in Jeju-Do. According to the comparison of these results, this method shows excellent performance.

  • Generally, SAW device, which uses Time Domain Sampling, requires high speed A/D converter because SAW device using TDS needs high sampling speed as much as its high data speed. However, the high price of A/D converter discourages makers from using it. On the other hand, SAW device, which uses Frequency Domain Sampling, does not required high speed A/D converter because SAW device using FDS does not need high sampling speed. It is very efficient in price comparison to its performance because high processing speed of SAW device using FDS can be implemented using low price Embedded Systems. The purpose of the paper is to solve the issues above by designing and realizing SAW device(FDS) using SAW sensor for TDS.

  • In this paper, ADC with multi SHA structure is proposed for high speed operation. The proposed structure incorporates a multi SHA block that consists of multiple SHAs of identical characteristics in parallel to improve the conversion speed. The designed multi SHA is operated by non-overlapping clocks and the sampling speed can be improved by increasing the number of multiplexed SHAs. Pipelined A/D converter, applying the proposed structure, is designed to satisfy requirement of analog front-end of VDSL modem. The measured INL and DNL of designed A/D converter are $0.52LSB{\sim}-0.50LSB$ and $0.80LSB{\sim}-0.76LSB$, respectively. It satisfies the design specifications for VDSL modems. The simulated SNR is about 66dB which corresponds to a 10.7 bit resolution. The power consumption is 24.32mW.

  • This paper proposes a CMOS temperature sensor using inverter delay chains of the same size based on the pulse shrinking method. A temperature-pulse converter (TPC) uses two different temperature delay lines with inverter chains to generate a pulse in proportion to temperature, and a time-digital converter (TDC) shrinks the pulse using inverter chains of the same size to convert pulse width into a digital value to be insensitive to process changes. The chip was implemented with a $0.49{\mu}m{\times}0.23{\mu}m$ area using a $0.35{\mu}m$ CMOS process with a supply voltage of 3.3V. The measurement results show a resolution of $0.24^{\circ}C/bit$ for 9-bit data for a temperature sensor range of $0^{\circ}C$ to $100^{\circ}C$.

  • In this study, a new multimedia data converter is proposed. Also the PC interfacing met hod using the parallel port of is suggested. The image compression/decompression is based on the JPEG algorithm, which is widely used for an effective compression in the image processing industry. The suggested interfacing method is based on the IEEE1284 and IEEE1284.3 protocol, which is a standard in the PC's parallel port interface.

  • This paper proposes the virtual implementation of solar cell(VISC) for photovoltaic system. It is required to make operation condition of solar cell arrays where is the limit of time and space, The main advantage of the simulator is its ability to simulate different types and sizes of arrays considering V-I characteristics of data sheet. The VISC with buch-boost converter can be used to study the short-term and long-term performances of PV cells. The simulator is a far more cost effective and reliable replacement for field and filight testing.

  • Micro-SMES(Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage) has been studied as an impulsive high power supply for industrial applications. Recently, electric power reliability of our country has been improved. However, there are still remaining problems which are short-duration variations like instantaneous and momentary interruption and voltage sag by nature calamity ; typhoon, lightning, snow, etc. Besides, power quality ; harmonics, goes down because of using power electronics equipments. Malfunction of controller and stop machinery, and losing important data are caused by poor power quality at a couple of second in accuracy controllers. Due to those, battery based UPS has been used, but there are several disadvantages ; long charge and discharge time, environmental problem by acid and heavy metal, and short life time. Micro-SMES is an alternative to settle problems mentioned above. However, there need huge system apparatuses in order to verify the effect of system efficiency and stability considering the size of micro-SMES, the sort of converter type, and various conditions. This paper presents a cost effective simulation method of micro-SMES and power converter, and design for micro-SMES based system using PSCAD/EMTDC.

  • This paper describes a 3.3V 8bit CMOS digital to analog converter (DAC) with two state current cell metrix architecture which consists of a 4 MSB and a 4 LSB current matrix stage. The symmetric two stage current cell matrix architecture allow the designed DAC to reduce hot only a complexity of decoding logics, but also a number of wider swing cascode curent mirros. The designed DAC with an active chip area of 0.8 mm$_{2}$ is fabricated by a 0.8 .mu.m CMOS n-well standard digital process. The experimental data shows that the rise/fall time, the settling time, and INL/DNL are6ns, 15ns, and a less than .+-.0.8/.+-.0.75 LB, respectively. The designed DAC is fully operational for the power supply down to 2.0V, such that the DAC is suitable for a low voltage and a low power system application. The power dissipation of the DAC with a single power supply of 3.3V is measured to be 34.5mW.

  • A power plant simulation tool ('PowerSim') has been developed with 10 years experience from the development of a plant simulator for efficient modeling of a power plant. PowerSim is the first developed tool in Korea for plant simulation with various plant component models, instructor station function and the Graphic Model Builder (GMB). PowerSim is composed of a graphic editor using general purpose design software, a netlist converter, component models, the scheduler, Instructor Station and an executive. The graphic editor generates a netlist that shows the connection status of the various plant components from the Simdiagram, which is drawn by Icon Drag method supported by GUI environment of the PowerSim. Netlist Converter normalizes the connection status of the components. Scheduler makes scheduling for the execution of the device models according to the netlist. Therefore, the user makes Simdiagram based on the plant Pipe and Instrument Drawing (P&ID) and inputs the plant data for automatic simulating execution. This paper introduces Graphic Model Builder (GMB), instructor station, executive and the detailed introduction of thermal-hydraulic modeling. This paper will also introduce basic ideas on how the simulation Diagram, based on netlist generated from general purpose design software, is made and how the system is organized. The developed tool has been verified through the simulation of a real power plant.
