  • A large ship usually consists of 300 to 500 blocks, for which it is extremely difficult to monitor the whole manufacturing processes from assembly to erection. In an effort to unify all the data and procedures, shipbuilding companies are installing ERP systems, which have brought great improvement throughout the company as a whole. In some departments, however, the ERP systems are not being fully utilized. This paper analyzes and solves the problems revealed especially at the production departments after an ERP system is installed. In this research, firstly a TOC(Theory of Constraints) analysis is done to find out the best solution for those problems. Secondly, based on the solution found, a Monitoring System for hull construction processes is developed with an improved user interface. The visualization of data is designed to reflect the needs of the production departments. The new system supplements the ERP system in that it selectively utilizes the unified data base and is operated under ERP environment. The system is installed in the production departments and its usefulness is verified.

  • Topographic map is important for the additional detailed construction planning followed by slope sliding. It is a base map that is used to compute the volume of soil, the cost of construction, and check the stability in the area of slope sliding. In this study, 3D topographic data were acquired appling softcopy photogrammetry to the dangerous slope, and the method which can transform these data to the same coordinates system as early TM coordinates was designed. There was a problem when the one meter contour line was made by analysing the image taken from the distance three hundred meters. By solving this problem, this could be used as important data for the planning of road expansion construction. It is expected to be useful for the measurement of various dangerous area in civil engineering works.

  • PURPOSES : In this study, we analyzed the compressive strength characteristics of lean base concrete in relation to changes in the outdoor temperature after analyzing the cold and hot weather temperature standards and calculated the minimum and maximum temperatures when pouring concrete. We examined the rate of strength development of lean base concrete in relation to the temperature change and derived an appropriate analysis formula for FRC base structures by assigning the accumulated strength data and existing maturity formula. METHODS : We measured the strength changes at three curing temperatures (5, 20, and $35^{\circ}C$) by curing the concrete in a temperature range that covered the lowest temperature of the cold period, $5^{\circ}C$, to the highest temperature of the hot period, $35^{\circ}C$. We assigned the general lean concrete and FRC as test variables. A strength test was planned to measure the strength after 3, 5, 7, 14, and 28 days. RESULTS : According to the results of compressive strength tests of plain concrete and FRC in relation to curing temperature, the plain concrete had a compressive strength greater than 5 MPa at all curing temperatures on day 5 and satisfied the lean concrete standard. In the case of FRC, because the initial strength was substantially reduced as a result of a 30% substitution of fly ash, it did not satisfy the strength standard of 5 MPa when it was cured at $5^{\circ}C$ on day 7. In addition, because the fly ash in the FRC caused a Pozzolanic reaction with the progress into late age, the amount of strength development increased. In the case of a curing temperature of $20^{\circ}C$, the FRC strength was about 66% on day 3 compared with the plain concrete, but it is increased to about 77% on day 28. In the case of a curing temperature of $35^{\circ}C$, the FRC strength development rate was about 63% on day 3 compared with the plain concrete, but it increased to about 88% on day 28. CONCLUSIONS : We derived a strength analysis formula using the maturity temperatures with all the strength data and presented the point in time when it reached the base concrete standard, which was 5 MPa for each air temperature. We believe that our findings could be utilized as a reference in the construction of base concrete for a site during a cold or hot weather period.

  • The reconstruction of surfaces from unorganized point clouds can provide very useful information for construction managers. Although point clouds are generally created using 3D scanners, they can also be generated via the structure-from-motion technique using a sequence of images. Here we report a novel surface reconstruction technique for modeling and quantifying earthworks that can be used for preliminary planning, project updates and estimating of earthwork quantities, as well as embedded planning systems in construction equipment. The application of structure-from-motion techniques in earth works is examined and its advantages and limitations identified. Data from 23 earthwork excavation construction sites were collected and analyzed. 3D surface reconstructions during the construction phase were compared to the original land form. Similar experiments were conducted with piles of earth and the results analyzed to determine appropriate ranges of use for structure-from-motion surface reconstructions in earthwork applications. The technique was found to be most suited to pile of materials with volumes less than 2000 m3. Piles up to 10 m in height and with base areas up to $300m^2$ were also successfully reconstructed. These results should be of interest to contractors seeking to utilize new technology to optimize operational efficiency.

  • With the mounting concerns over environmental issues, green construction is gaining a place in the global construction industry. However, rare research has been conducted to analyze green construction projects, especially in the aspect of project schedule performance. As a result, this study aims to investigate the degree of project delay in green building construction, analyze the factors affecting schedule delay of green building projects, and finally provide recommendations to improve schedule performance of green building project. To achieve the objectives, a comprehensive literature review was carried out, followed by a survey conducted with 30 companies that provided data from 220 traditional and 96 green building projects. The analysis of the responses identified that 15.9% of the traditional building projects were delayed while 32.3% of the green building projects were completed behind schedule. Furthermore, the amount of the delays in green building projects was an average of 4.8% of their planned schedule. The top 5 critical factors that can cause delay in green building projects were identified as: (1) speed of decision-making by clients; (2) speed of decision-making involving all project teams; (3) communication/coordination between key parties; (4) level of experience of consultants; and (5) difficulties in contractors' project financing. Lastly, a list of recommendations was introduced, aiming to reduce schedule delay in green building construction projects based on the observations. This study will serve as s a base for further research on the enhancement of green building project schedule performance.

  • As a recent technology, it is possible to partially grasp the occurrence of displacement of the entire building through artificial intelligence technology for big data through scanning. However, scanning and data processing take a lot of time, so there is a limit to constant monitoring, so constant monitoring technology of building behavior that combines wireless remote sensors and 3D shape scanning is required. Therefore, in this study, artificial intelligence program coding technology is linked. In addition, a technology capable of real-time wireless remote measurement of structure displacement will be developed through technology development in response to safety management that combines existing building technologies such as sensors. Through this, it is possible to establish an integrated management system for safety inspection and diagnosis.

  • This paper presents the development procedure and application of the generic component reliability data base considering the dependency among dependent generic compendia in NPPs (Nuclear Power Plants) PSA (Probabilistic Safety Assessment) under construction or without operating history. We use MPRDP (Multi-Purpose Reliability Data Processor) code developed in KAERI (Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute) based on a PEB (Parametric Empirical Bayesian) procedure to estimate the reliability. The employed model in this study accounts for the relative credibility as well as the dependency among generic estimates. Numerical examples and the part of summarized reliability data table are provided as the application.
