Sooty leaf blight was found on Dendrobium sp. in several farmers' fields located in Namji-eup, Changnyeong-gun, Gyeongnam province, Korea in 2001. Symptoms of the disease appeared on leaves. Sooty leaf spots were started with amphigenous, subeircular to irregular spots, with light grayish brown to black color with definite margin lines on the upper surface of leaves. Infected leaves became defoliated and whole plants eventually were died. The infection rates of the disease in the surveyed area reached up to 64.8%, in the early September. Conidiophores of the causal fungus were dark grayish brown in color, densely fasciculate, straight, curved to sinuous, branched, $5{\sim}10$ septate and $63{\sim}164{\times}3.2{\sim}4.9{\mu}m$ in size. Conidia were pale to olivaceous in color, obclavatecylindric, straight to slightly curved in shape, $1{\sim}5$ septate and $46{\sim}98{\times}3.2{\sim}3.9{\mu}m$ in size. The optimum temperature for mycelial growth of the fungus was $25^{\circ}C$. The fungus was identified as Pseudocercospora dendrobii on the basis of its mycological characteristics. This is the first report on sooty leaf light of Dendrobium sp. caused by Pseudocercospora dendrobii in Korea.

Seasonal prevalence of bacterial canker of kiwifruit caused by Pseudomonas syringae pv. actinidiae (Psa) was investigated at a naturally infected orchard in Boseong, Jeonnam in 2014 and 2015. Stem canker began to occur in mid-February in 2014 and early March in 2015. Bacterial ooze was observed on canes, leaders and trunks until late May and gradually disappeared thereafter. The percentages of infected trees were 44.7% and 69.7% in 2014 and 2015, respectively. Trees with trunk canker in a previous year died in 2015. Leaf canker symptoms began to appear as brown spots with chlorotic halos in early May and irregular dark brown spots without halos were observed under humid conditions. Leaf canker progressed until mid-July in 2014 and late July in 2015. No Psa was detected from the leaf lesions on leaves thereafter, but new infection of Psa was observed on leaves in late October. Infected blossoms with blighted calyx were sometimes observed from mid-May. Optimal monitoring period to detect Psa was May when it could be easily detected from stems, leaves and blossoms. Disease cycle of bacterial canker of kiwifruit modified for Korea was proposed based on the seasonal prevalence of bacterial canker analyzed according to weather data in Boseong, Jeonnam over 2 years.
Leaf spot disease of Kalanchoe (Kalanchoe blossfeldiana) occurred at the farmer's vinly house in Gangseo-gu, Busan Metropolitan City, Korea, 2006. The diseased plants with typical symptom were collected and the casual agent were isolated. Its mycological characteristics and pathogenicity were examined. The results were as follows. The typical symptoms of the disease appeared as small brownish or dark brown spot on both sides of the leaves. The spots tended to develop from lower leaves. The spots gradually enlarged into conspicuous necrotic lesions 1-5 mm in diameter. Colonies of the causal fungus formed on potato dextrose agar were velvety, gray or grayish brown in color, Conidia were cylindrical or obclavate to oblong in shape, brown in color, $24{\sim}65\;{\times}\;12{\sim}23\;{\mu}m$ in size and had 1-4 transverse septa, The optimum temperature for growth of the fungus was about $25-30^{\circ}C$. Conidiophores were brown in color, $32{\sim}135\;{\times}\;4{\sim}8\;{\mu}m$ in size and had 1-7 transverse septa. The fungus was identified as Stemphylium lycopersici (Enjoji) Yamamoto based on its symptom and mycological characteristics. This is the first report of leaf spot of Kalanchoe caused by S. lycopersici in Korea.
Protoplasts were isolated from the leaf mesophyll tissue of in vitro 4-weeks-old Arabidopsis thaliana and cultured in MS liquid medium supplemented with 2.0 mg/L NAA, 0.5 mg/L BAP and 9% mannitol in the dark at $25^{\circ}C$. When protoplast-derived microcolonies were dehydrated, the frequency of callus induction enhanced approximately 7-fold higher compared with non-dehydrated microcolonies in CP medium. Fifty callus lines were selected from dehydrated microcolonies. Shoots were efficiently initiated from the green spots of the selected shoot forming calli cultured on MS regeneration medium supplemented with 0.05 mg/L IAA, 7.0 mg/L 2-iP and 30 g/L sucrose under continous illumination for 4 weeks. Shoot regeneration frequencies (calli regenerating at least one shoot) were 3.5%~56%. Histological observations of shoot forming callus revealed that tracheary elements initiated from inner compact cells, and that meristemoids developed to shoot primordia and shoots. Roots were induced from these regenerating shoots on MS medium without phytohormones. These regenerants were successfully transplanted into potting soil. Morphological characterization of 50 protoplast-derived plants showed that the frequency of normal type was 78%.
In August 2015, leaf spot symptoms were observed on Korean gondre thistle (Cirsium setidens) in Youngwol, Korea. During the early stage, the symptoms appeared as one or more small gray-brown to brown spots on plant leaves. The spots showed extensive enlargement over time and eventually became large dark brown to black lesions on the whole leaf. Stemphylium species were consistently isolated from affected leaves. All isolates were identified as S. lycopersici, S. solani, or S. xanthosomatis based on morphological and cultural characteristics. The isolates were confirmed as S. lycopersici based on a multilocus sequence analysis using the ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region, elongation factor 1, GAPDH (glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase), and the noncoding region between the vacuolar membrane ATPase catalytic subunit A gene and a gene involved in vacuolar biogenesis. Pathogenicity was tested by spore suspension inoculation on wounded or unwounded gondre leaves. The lesions were observed on inoculated leaves within 3 days after inoculation, regardless of wound. To our knowledge, this is the first report of the leaf spot on gondre thistle caused by S. lycopersici in Korea or elsewhere.
A new Asiatic hybrid lily 'Redsky' cultivar was selected from a cross between 'Vivaldi' cultivar with pale pink color flower as mother plant and 'Prato' with orange colored flower in 2000 year. The selected bulb line was propagated and cultivated for line nomenclature as 'Gonong-F-na-10'. The survey of the growth and flower characteristics of 'Gonong-F-na-10' were conducted from 2005 to 2007 on summer cropping system under structure in Highland Agriculture Research Center, NICS, RDA. After all 'Gonong-F-na-10' was named as 'Redsky'. The flowers of the 'Redsky' cultivar had not soft hair and fragrance, and had orange red (O-R N30D) colored petals with dark brown spots in center of flower. The stem color was dark pink and brown caused by anthocyanin pigment, the stigma and pollen colors were brown. Flowering direction was upward. The flowering date was July 7 so early flowering. The plant height was 97.2 cm so long, number of flowers was 4.9 ea, and length of flower bud was 9.3 cm. The bulb weight was about 34.8 g and its bulb size was about 14.8 cm in circumference. 'Redsky' cultivar was registered as a new variety with No. 3119 in Korea Seed and Variety Service on June of 2010.

The present study was carried out to investigate the potential adverse effects of CKD-602 by a 5-day repeated intravenous dose in Sprague-Dawley rats. The test article, CKD-602, was administered intravenously to male and female rats at dose levels of 0.07, 0.22, 0.67, 2.0 and 6.0 mg/kg/day for 5 days consecutively. Mortalities, clinical findings, and body weight changes were monitored for the 14-day period after cessation of the administration. At the end of 14-day observation period, all animals were sacrificed and complete gross postmortem examinations were performed. There were 2 and 5 treatment related deaths in the 0.67 and 2.0 mg/kg/day dose groups of both genders, respectively. Treatment related clinical signs, including hair loss, skin paleness, decreased locomotor activity, emaciation, and changes in stool were observed in a dose-dependent manner from the third day after initiation of the injection. Decrease or suppression of body weight was also observed dose-dependently in males and females of the treated groups. Gross postmortem examinations revealed a dose-dependent increase in the incidence and severity of atrophy or hypertrophy and white membrane formation in the spleen, atrophy of the thymus, diffuse white spots and paleness of the liver, paleness of the lung, kidney and adrenal gland, and dark red discoloration and dark red contents in the alimentary tract. Based on these results, it was concluded that the 5-repeated intravenous injection of CKD-602 to male and female rats resulted in increased incidence of abnormal clinical signs and death, decreased or suppressed body weight, and increased incidence of abnormal gross findings. In the present experimental conditions, the $LD_{50}$ value was 2.07 (95% confidence limit not specified) mg/kg/day in both genders and the $LD_{10}$ value was 1.72 (95% confidence limit not specified) mg/kg/day in both genders.

The present study was carried out to investigate the potential acute toxicity of CKD-602 by a single intravenous dose in Beagle dogs. The test chemical was administered intravenously to male and female Beagle dogs at dose levels of 0.3, 0.5, or 2.5 mg/kg. Mortalities, clinical findings, and body weight changes were monitored for the 14-day period following the administration. At the end of 14-day observation period, all animals were sacrificed and complete gross postmortem examinations were performed. All males and females of the 2.5 mg/kg dose group were found dead between the fourth and seventh day after the injection. Treatment related clinical signs, including vomiting, anorexia, mucous stool, diarrhea, and no stool were observed. Decrease or suppression of body weight was observed in a dose-dependent manner. In autopsy, dark red discoloration of the gastrointestinal tract, atrophy of the thymus, paleness of the spleen, sporadic dark red spots of the lung and petechia of the heart were observed in dead animals of the 2.5 mg/kg dose group. There were no specific adverse effects on males and females of the 0.3 and 0.5 mg/kg dose groups, except for the transient clinical signs such as anorexia, vomiting, and mucus/no stool. On the basis of the results, it was concluded that a single intravenous injection of CKD-602 to Beagle dogs resulted in increased incidence of abnormal clinical signs and death, decreased body weight, and increased incidence of abnormal gross findings. The absolute toxic dose of this chemical was 2.5 mg/kg for both genders. The $LD_{50}$ value was 1.1 mg/kg (95% confidence limit not specified) for both genders. The no-observed-effect level (NOEL) was considered to be below 0.3 mg/kg for both genders.
A green house experiment was conducted to investigate the growth of Chinese cabbage, radish and soybean and change in the chemical properties of the soil after the 10mm application of the simulated acid rain(SAR) of pH 2.7 in the form of sprinkle and mist. It was applied 30 times for Chinese cabbage and radish and 62 times for soybean at the two-day intervals. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. Visual damages caused by SAR were dark-brown or red brown leaf spots in Chinese cabbage, and dark-brown and wrinkled leaf margins in radish and soybean. 2. The degree of visual damages became severer as the number of SAR applications increased and it was severer with mist than with sprinkle of SAR. 3. Chlorophyll content was reduced by SAR, but it was not affected by the form of SAR application(sprinkle or mist) in all crops, although it was slightly lower with mist than with sprinkle of SAR. 4. Fresh weight of Chinese cabbage heads and radish roots and grain yield of soybean were reduced by SAR, and were not affected by the form of SAR application. 5. Contents of K, Ca, and Mg in leaves were reduced, while S content increased by SAR in all crops. The forms of SAR application did not affect contents of mineral nutrients in all crops. 6. SAR decreased soil pH and the contents Ca, Mg, and K of soil, while increased $SO_4$ content. However, the contents of soil organic matter, N, and P were not affected by SAR. Forms of SAR application did not affect soil chemical properties either.
A new asiatic lily cultivar 'Point' was derived from a cross between $Lilium$$concolor$ var. $partheneion$ and 97-5 with orange colored petals made in 2000. The selection and the survey for the flower characteristics were conducted from 2005 to 2008 by using vinyl tunnels and greenhouse at Highland Agriculture Research Center, NICS, RDA. Based on flower color, 'Point' cultivar belongs to orange red group (O-R N30C). There was lots of spots in petal. The flowers had brown stigma and dark brown pollen. The stem color was dark purple. The flowering date was July 8. The plant height was 88.2 cm and flower numbers were 5.4 ea. The length and width of petal were 6.3 cm and 3.2 cm, respectively. The flower size was smaller than that of 'Prato' cultivar. The number of leaves was 12.2 ea. The length and width of leaves were 9.2 cm and 1.1 cm, respectively. The weight and circumference of bulb were about 24.6 g and 11.6 cm, respectively. 'Point' cultivar had resistance to bulb rot disease. The flowering duration was 16.1 days. The preference was good to 4.1 on 5 grades. 'Point' cultivar was registered as a new variety with No. 3446 in Korea Seed and Variety Service on April 2011.
