  • The purposes of this study were compare the leisure attitudes, leisure activities, and leisure constraint among three different generations - teenagers, adults, and elderly adults. Data were obtained from a Questionnaire completed by both male and female lived metropolitan, and aged over 13. Using the factor analysis, this study classified the types of leisure attitudes. The leisure attitude was divided to 4 factors - reducing stress, self-realization, family activity, and surplus time. In order to compare the attitudes, activities, and constraints of leisure among three different generations, ANOVA was used The findings of this study are as follows: First, there were significant differences between teenager group and the others. The teenagers (n=107) recognized the leisure as a mechanism of reducing stress, or as just surplus time. They liked sports, computer games, travels, and reading books, but were not likely to like leisure activities shared with family members. Their leisure constraints were significantly larger than those of the other groups. Teenagers' constraints of time, money, and skills could be leisure barriers. Second, adults group (n=123) attached importance to the family leisure activities. They liked to spend time with their family members, but they seemed to be relatively passive in most types of leisure activities. They like to read newspapers and magazines, and to participate in religious activities. Third, elderly adults' (n=86) purpose of leisure activities was to improve the health condition, and to develop relationships with their friends. They liked sports such as swimming and aerobic dance, travels, religious activities and community service activities. Their good health condition and economic resources could decrease the leisure constraints.

  • Ganggangsulae, a traditional Korean circle-dance play, is valuable as the material for learning the traditional culture. Most people realize the importance of the Ganggangsulae as the traditional play. However, schools have experienced difficulties in teaching the Ganggangsulae to students since students are not interested in it due to the lack of systematic and proper instruction methods. In order to develop these methods, it is required to enforce researches in reinventing traditional Ganggangsulae into modern and popular life sports based on various scientific analyses. In this paper, we analyze the current instruction methods and the corresponding effects in teaching Ganggangsulae in the elementary schools. Also the effect of exercise is also analyzed for each play of Ganggangsulae. Based on these analyses, we present a model of player-centric Ganggangsulae system which can be reorganized its plays for a specific purpose. The proposed model characterizes Ganggangsulae in terms of the evolutionary variety and modular structure.

  • This study was aimed to analyze experiences of conflicts that women confront by participating in a conservative sport, baseball, and to figure out how they cope with these conflicts. In this respect, in-depth interviews were performed targeting 18 women who have been participating in a team registered in Women's Baseball Association for more than 1 year. Interview data went through classification of meaning and an analysis process of conceptualization and led to the following conclusion. First, the women's conflicts from their participation in baseball activities were revealed as the conflict between workplace and leisure activity, the conflict between significant others and leisure activity(objection by family and severance of interpersonal relations), and the conflict between sociocultural prejudice and leisure activity. Second, female baseball participants' strategies to cope with conflict situations were classified as making a group of supporters by persuasion and negotiation, active strategies(my own way and priority of life), and evasive measure(telling lies and avoidance of conflicts).

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the styles of street fashion in youth sub-culture which has the leading power of 1990's Korean fashion flow. This topic has been explored in documentary studies about the youth sub-culture and the background of street fashion. Then, it also continued to classify street fashion styles in order to grasp the meaning as a young fashion. The results of this study are as follows. Street fashio of Korean youth are composed of four styles. ; The first is a hip-hop style. The hip-hop of Korea is started by 'Taiji Boys' and their representative apperances are the big-baggy pants, the reversed cap, the thrown backpack. The second is a reggae style. It is formed by the singer 'Kim Gun Mo'. It features the primary color and the use of ethnic fabrics. The third is a kitch style. The kitch is definitely represented by the old, the childish and the satire appearances. It came up with the rock band 'pipiband'. The forth is a sporty style. It comes from 'basketball' and 'skateboarding' which the young people prefer. Its designs are applied from the back-number of players, the names of the teams, the stripes of active-feeling. Based on this study, I designed cloths with 3 concepts to present a new design direction of Street Fashion. Work 1, 「JOY-RIDE」 represented the freedom and the release which are shown by pop music and dance. Work 2, 「GAMMA ENERGY」 represented the dynamic energy through sports games. Work 3, 「AROUND THE CORNER」 represented the form of street including comers, walls, roads etc.

  • The aim of the study was to identify which fall-prevention program offered in community settings in Korea is the most effective in strengthening muscles. Muscle weakness is one of the major risk factors causing falls among the elderly. Randomized controlled trials and clinical controlled trials published between 1996 and February 2011 were included in this study. Seventeen of the 69 identified studies met the study's criteria and were included in this meta-analysis. The overall effect size of the program was .822 (95% confidence interval= .717~.927). The general strengthening exercise (1.608), dance sports training (1.538), Thera-band exercise for lower extremities (1.517), Seniorobic exercise (1.146), gait training (.959), balance training (.909), gradual resistive exercise (.888), and multifactorial fall prevention (.842) programs all show positive effects on muscle strengthening. Subgroup analyses found that more relative effects are seen in programs offered to the more elderly. In this study, the effect of increasing muscle strength on the prevention of falls can only be indirectly suggested; there are few available studies that report the frequency or history of falls in Korea. Further studies are needed to examine the direct effect of fall prevention exercise programs among the elderly.

  • The purpose of this study was to research on the movement of Fouette A La Second which was a type of turning movements on cheerleading. This research was conducted for helping cheerleaders to improve their overall skills. The three cheerleading national team members were participated in this research and the movements of Fouette A La Second were recorded with 6 digital motion master 60 video cameras, operating at a sampling frequency of 60 fields/sec. Six out of ten turning motion data were collected and analyzed with Kwon3D XP. The results were as follow: 1) The subject A's Releve motion was not executed precisely because of the COG's unstability. So she was required to improve the balancing ability. 2) The subject B could not execute the precise A La Second motion because of subject B's large hip angle. By tracing the projection of B's right toe on x-y plane, the subject made an elliptical orbit. Because B did not have a proper turning skills she needed to improve the muscle power and flexibility. She also needed to move quickly from Releve to Plie movement. 3) The subject C could not execute the Plie movement precisely, so she could not turn her body correctly around a certain spot. The subject C needed to decrease the knee angle at the Plie motion.

  • This study was conducted to investigate effects of nutrition education and exercise intervention on health and diet quality of middle-aged women. The subjects were 209 women who wanted to involve in the health promotion program run by Jincheon-Gun Health Center. Nutrition education was given once a week and dance sports were done twice a week for 3 months. Nutrient intakes were assessed by 24-hour recall method and food records. Dietary habits and nutrition knowledge were investigated by self-administered questionnaires before and after the intervention program. Body and blood compositions were measured before and after the program. The nutrient adequacy ratio (NAR) was significantly increased in energy, protein, vitamin A, vitamin B2 and calcium, mean adequacy ration (MAR) was significantly increased (p < 0.05), and also the index of nutritional quality (INQ) was significantly increased in protein (p < 0.01). Percent (%) RIs of protein (p < 0.01) and calcium (p < 0.05) were significantly increased and body weight (p < 0.001), body fat (p < 0.01), soft lean mass (p < 0.01) and BMI (p < 0.001) decreased. Over the 3-month study, there was a significant trend toward higher HDL-C and albumin levels and lower LDL-C level (p < 0.001). The results showed that nutrition education and exercise intervention could improve the body health and the diet quality.

  • The matching score evaluating human copying ability can be a good measure to check children's developmental stages, or sports movements like golf swing and dance, etc. It also can be used as HCI for AR, VR applications. This paper presents a method to evaluate the motion similarity between demonstrator who initiates movement and participant who follows the demonstrator action. We present a quantification method of the similarity which utilizes Euclidean L2 distance of Openpose keypoins vector similarity. The proposed method adapts DTW, thus can flexibly cope with the time delayed motions.
