The ability of baffles in increasing the sloshing damping is investigated in this study by theoretical, numerical, and experimental methods. Baffles Installed as separators in containers, can change the dynamic properties of sloshing. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of baffle placement. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of placing baffles in order to provide appropriate frequencies and damping and to present a practical baffle arrangement in the design ofsloshing. In this regard, an experimental setup is designed to study the fluid sloshing behavior and damping properties in cylindrical tanks filled up to an arbitrary depth. A new combination of annular and sectorial baffles is employed to evaluate fluid sloshing in the tank. The results show that the proposed baffle arrangement has a desired effect on the damping and fluid sloshing frequencies and optimally satisfies the anticipated design requirements. In addition, the theoretical frequencies exceed empirical frequencies at the points far from baffles, while at the points close to baffles, the empirical ones are higher than theoretical ones. Also, at the depths near the bottom of container sloshing frequencies are not affected by sectorial baffles, although the theoretical curve predicts a reduction in the fundamental frequency of sloshing. Finally, the results of finite volume and finite element methods which compared with experimental data, indicated a good agreement between different approaches.
Embedding viscoelastic-damping materials into composites can greatly increase the damping properties of composite structures. Usually viscoelastic-damping materials behave isotropically so that their damping properties are the same in all directions. In these days, there is a desire to develop viscoelastic-damping materials that behave orthotropically so that damping properties vary with material orientation. These orthotropic damping materials can be made by embedding rows of thin wires within the viscoelastic materials. These wires add significant directional stiffness to the damping materials. where the stiffness variation with wire orientation follows classical lamination theory. In this paper, the loss factor of composite laminate was evaluated based on Ni and Adams' theory. To investigate the effect of directional damping material, the low-velociy impact response analysis was also performed. The present analysis results show that directional damping material has a great influence on vibration and damping characteristic of composite laminate.
Effects of Ti on damping capacity and mechanical properties are investigated in hot rolled Fe-17%Mn alloy. The existing damping alloy with Fe-Mn binary system was limited the use by high production cost, however in case of using scrap iron instead of pure iron although the content of carbon is higher it is possible to be applied wider field especially construction items because the production cost is lower. However, the excellent specific damping capacity is dropped due to the high content of carbon, we developed advanced type of damping alloy included Ti. TiC is formed with added Ti and it holds the specific damping capacity similar to existing damping alloy. The effect of Ti on damping capacity is found to be beneficial in carbon-containing alloy, which is attributed to the depletion of carbon solute due to the formation of TiC.
This study considered the experimental parameters (Nano-graphene oxide reinforced polycarbonate, GFRP) under low-velocity impact load and vibration analysis. The effect of nano-graphene oxide (NGO) on a polycarbonate-based composite was studied. Two test procedures were adopted to obtain experimental results, vibration analysis. The mechanical tests were performed on damaged and non-damaged specimens to determine the damaging effect on the composite specimens. After the test was carried out, the effect of NGO was measured and damping factors were ascertained experimentally. 0. 2 wt% NGO was determined as the optimum amount that best affected the Vibration Analysis. The experiments revealed that the composite's damping properties were increased by adding the nanoparticles to 0.25 wt% and decreased slightly for the specimens with the highest nanoparticles content. Cyclic sinus loading was applied at a frequency of 3.5 Hz. This paper study the frequency effect of 3.5khz frequency damage on mechanical results. Found that high frequency will worthlessly affect the fatigue life in NGO/polycarbonate composite. In 3.5 Hz frequency, it was chosen to decrease the heat by frequency. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) micrographs were used to investigate the distribution of NGO on the polycarbonate matrix and revealed a homogeneous mixture of nano-composites and strong bonding between NGO and the polycarbonate which increased the damping properties and decreased vibration. Finally, experimental modal analysis was conducted after the high-velocity impact damage process to investigate the defect on the NGO polycarbonate composites.
This study investigates the effect of fatigue stress on the damping capacity in a damaged Fe-22Mn-12Cr-3Ni-2Si-4Co damping alloy under fatigue stress. ${\alpha}^{\prime}$ and ${\varepsilon}-martensite$ forms by fatigue stress in the damaged Fe-22Mn-12Cr-3Ni-2Si4-Co damping alloy under fatigue stress. The ${\alpha}^{\prime}$ and ${\varepsilon}-martensite$ forms with the specific direction and surface relief, or they cross each other. With an increasing fatigue stress, the volume fraction of ${\alpha}^{\prime}-martensite$ and ${\varepsilon}-martensite$ increases. With an increasing fatigue stress, the damping capacity increases with an increase in the volume fraction of ${\varepsilon}-martensite$. The increase in the damping capacity in the damaged Fe-22Mn-12Cr-3Ni-2Si-4Co alloy under fatigue stress strongly affects the increase of ${\varepsilon}-martensite$ formed by fatigue stress, but the damping capacity of the damaged Fe-22Mn-12Cr-3Ni-2Si-4Co damping alloy under fatigue stress is strongly controlled by a large amount of ${\alpha}^{\prime}-martensite$.

Damping value has considerable influence on the dynamic and seismic behaviors of bridges. However, currently the constant damping ratios that are prescribed by most bridge seismic design codes can't truly represent the complicated damping character of actual structures. In this paper, a cyclic loading experiment was conducted to study the effect of stress amplitude on material damping of concrete to present an analyzing model of the material damping of concrete. Furthermore, based on the fundamental damping of structure measured under ambient vibration, combined with the presented stress-dependent material damping concrete, the seismic response of a bridge pier was calculated. Comparison between the calculated and experiment results verified the validity of the presented damping model. Finally, a modified design and analysis method for bridge was proposed based on stress-dependent damping theory, and a continuous rigid frame bridge was selected as the example to calculate the actual damping values and the dynamic response of the bridge under different earthquake intensities. The calculation results indicated that using the constant damping given by the Chinese seismic design code of bridges would overestimate the energy dissipation capacity of the bridge.

The vehicle design engineers have studied the method of applying damping materials to the vehicle bodies by computer simulations and experimental methods in order to improve the vibration and noise characteristics of the vehicles. The unconstrained layer damping, being concerned with this study, has two layers(base layer and damping layer) and proyides vibration control of the base layer through extensional damping. Generally this kind of surface damping method is effectively used in reducing structural vibration at frequencies beyond 150Hz. The most important thing is how to apply damping treatment with respect to location and size of the damping material. To solve these problems, the current experimental methods have technical limits which are cumbersome, time consuming, and expensive. This Paper proposes a method based on finite element method and it employes averaged ESE(element strain energy) percent of total of dash panel assembly for 1/1 octave band frequency range by MSC/NASTRAN. The regions of high ESE percent of total are selected as proposed location of damping treatment. The effect of damping treatment is analyzed by comparing the frequency response function of the SPCC bare Panel and the damping treated panels.
Gray cast iron with a high damping capacity has been used for controlling the vibration and noise in various mechanical structures. Nevertheless, its usage has been often restricted due to its poor tensile strength. Therefore, it is necessary to improve tensile strength at the expense of a loss in damping capacity. This study is aimed at finding the best combination of tensile strength and damping capacity by varying austempering time and temperature range from $320^{\circ}C$ to $380^{\circ}C$ after austenization at $900^{\circ}C$ for 1hr. The effect of austempering condition on hardness and the volume fraction of retained austenite is investigated as well. The results obtained are summarized as follows : (1) With an increase in austempering temperature, both tensile strength and hardness decrease while damping capacity improves. (2) Austempering at $350^{\circ}C$, resulting in a mixture of upper and lower bainite with partially retained austenite, exhibits the optimum combination of tensile strength and damping capacity.
The effect of grain size on the damping capacity of Fe-26Mn-2Al alloy studied in this paper has been investigated after changing the microstructure by cold rolling and changing grain size. Micro structures in Fe-26Mn-2Al at room temperature consist of a large quantity of austenite and a small quantity of ${\varepsilon}\;and\;{\alpha}'$ martensite. And ${\varepsilon}\;and\;{\alpha}'$ martensite was increased by increasing the degree of cold rolling. The content of deformation induced martensite was increased with increasing the degree of cold rolling. Damping capacity was linearly increased with increasing ${\varepsilon}$ martensite content, which suggests that stacking faults and ${\varepsilon}$ martensite variant boundaries are the principle damping sources. With increasing the grain size in Fe-26Mn-2Al alloy, the damping capacity was increased due to increasing the volume fraction of ${\varepsilon}$ martensite by decrement in stability of austenite phase. With decreasing the grain size, the content of deformation induced martensite was decreased and the damping capacity was decreased.

The reduction effect of floor impact noise depends on the various factors such as stiffness and thickness of the concrete slab, finishing If ceiling materials and the composition method. Among the rest it is well known that floating floor system is more effective. Standard floating floor(SFF) type-2 consisted of 50mm lightweight aerated concrete(LAC) and 20mm damping material has been widely used. But LAC construction problem on dry damping material occurred and the reduction effect of floor impact noise has bare minimum qualifications. Thus the aim of this study is to develop 40mm composite damping material(Soundzero Plus) for SFF type-5 which substitute LAC and damping material. 'Soundzero Plus' is satisfied with quality requirement for damping material for SFF. The heat transition rate, $0.45W/m^2{\cdot}K$ is more effective 55% about than the regulation. The test results of floor impact noise by using 'Soundzero Plus' are showed good improvement about 12dB (tested by tapping machine) and 4dB (tested by bang machine) between before and after.
