The plume fruit moth, Grapholita dimorpha Komai, a fruit tree pest occurring in the northeast Asia, was firstly reported to infest apple in Korea in 2009, but its direct damage to other fruit trees has been poorly studied. In this study, we investigated shoots and fruits of both peach and plum trees and compared their damage rates by G. dimorpha to those by G. molesta, a congeneric species. In order to discriminate the two moth species, we developed a molecular diagnosis method using species-specific primer sets on different PCR conditions and distinguished the two species collected from the damaged shoots or fruits. The shoots and fruits of peach were infested mostly by G. molesta. However, in plums, the shoots were damaged by G. molesta and the fruits mostly by G. dimorpha. In addition, these two species showed a clear difference in host preference in fruit damage, where 92.5% of the Grapholita moths collected in peach fruits were identified as G. molesta, but 97.0% of the moths in plum fruits were G. dimorpha. The difference of the damage between the two fruit trees may give important information for monitoring of the two moth species in these orchards.

The reduction unit is one of the most important components in railway cars, due to the transmission of torque from the motor to the wheels. Faulty reduction gears in high-speed trains result from excessive wear on the gear or damage to the gear. These types of gear defects have a significant effect on high-speed rail operation and safety; thus, a diagnosis system for the reduction unit is needed. Vibration diagnosis technology is one of the most effective diagnostics. In this paper, the vibration parameters of a reduction unit were evaluated during a driving-gear test and a full-vehicle test, using kurtosis and the crest factor. These tests were performed under normal operating conditions; a specimen tester was used to diagnose problems in defective gears.

Use of concrete has undoubtedly become widespread in construction and civil engineering. Sensors are used to add functional characteristics to concrete. Self-diagnosis concrete is also being developed. The thermal protector used in the study is a sensor using the linear expansion and cubical expansion of metal. The LED(Light Emitting Diode) is a phototransistor type, and to secure high-sensitivity light, the prices of these sensors are low. Rising temperatures of concrete elements can be predicted from LED of the external virtual beam due to operation of thermal protector sensors of concrete beam caused by fire load on the concrete specimen. In this study, the development of fire-diagnosis concrete using composite sensors are the fundamental study for damage detection using simply measurements.

Chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitis (CRMO) is one of the most severe form of chronic non-bacterial osteomyelitis (CNO), which could result in bone and related tissue damage. This autoinflammatory bone disorder (ABD) is very difficult for its clinical diagnosis because of no diagnostic criteria or biomarkers. CRMO in the jaw must be suspected in the differential diagnosis of chronic and recurrent bone pain in the jaw, and a bone biopsy should be considered in chronic and relapsing bone pain with swelling that is unresponsive to treatment. The early diagnosis of CRMO in the jaw will prevent unnecessary and prolonged antibiotic usage or unnecessary surgical intervention. The updated researches for the identification of genetic and molecular alterations in CNO/CRMO should be studied more for its correct pathophysiological causes and proper treatment guidelines. Although our trial consisted of reporting items from Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA), there are very few articles of randomized controlled trials. This article was summarized based on the author's diverse clinical experiences. This paper reviews the clinical presentation of CNO/CRMO with its own pathogenesis, epidemiology, recent research studies, and general medications. Treatment and monitoring of the jaw are essential for the clear diagnosis and management of CNO/CRMO patients in the field of dentistry and maxillofacial surgery.

Railroad Systems, which are national infrastructure industries, cause unexpected property and human damage if they fail to function while operating. Accordingly, railroad facilities supporting the railroad system are areas where high reliability and safety are required. However, it is time for systematic and scientific maintenance to be taken away from the traditional maintenance methods, as the nation's railroad facilities are now aging seriously. The purpose of this study was to secure the safety and reliability of the aging railroad communication facilities and to improve their performance. The research subjects were selected as a precision diagnosis process for railroad communication facilities, and improvement points were derived through detailed precision diagnosis process analysis. It is deemed that this study can contribute based on securing stability, improving reliability, and continuous improvement of railroad communication facilities should be conducted in the operation of the entire railroad system.
Abusive head trauma (AHT) is the most severe form of physical abuse in children. Such injury involves traumatic damage to the head and/or spine of infants and young children. The term AHT was introduced to include a wider range of injury mechanisms, such as intentional direct blow, throw, and even penetrating trauma by perpetuator(s). Currently, it is recommended to replace the former term, shaken baby syndrome, which implicates shaking as the only mechanism, with AHT to include diverse clinical and radiological manifestations. The consequences of AHT cause devastating medical, social and financial burdens on families, communities, and victims. The potential harm of AHT to the developing brain and spinal cord of the victims is tremendous. Many studies have reported that the adverse effects of AHT are various and serious, such as blindness, mental retardation, physical limitation of daily activities and even psychological problems. Therefore, appropriate vigilance for the early recognition and diagnosis of AHT is highly recommended to stop and prevent further injuries. The aim of this review is to summarize the relevant evidence concerning the early recognition and diagnosis of AHT. To recognize this severe type of child abuse early, all health care providers maintain a high index of suspicion and vigilance. Such suspicion can be initiated with careful and thorough history taking and physical examinations. Previously developed clinical prediction rules can be helpful for decision-making regarding starting an investigation when considering meaningful findings. Even the combination of biochemical markers may be useful to predict AHT. For a more confirmative evaluation, neuroradiological imaging is required to find AHT-specific findings. Moreover, timely consultation with ophthalmologists is needed to find a very specific finding, retinal hemorrhage.

Pulse diagnosis has been highly valued in many East Asian medical books, since "Huangdaineijing(黃帝內經)" published. Gigoo-inyoung pulse method(氣口人迎脈法) is one of the four pulse diagnostic methods originally written in"Huangdaineijing(黃帝內經)". At the late 3rd century, "Maijing(脈經)" redefined the positions of Gigoo-inyoung pulse(氣口人迎脈). According to "Maijing(脈經)", both spots were 1fen(分) in front of guan(關) but Gigoo on the right hand and Inyoung on the left hand. At the middle of 13th century, "Maekgyolejijangbyungsikdoseol(脈訣指掌病式圖說)" had detailed view points about the manner of reading Gigoo-inyoung pulse. "Maekgyolejijangbyungsikdoseol(脈訣指掌病式圖說)" explained clearly the position of 1fen(分) in front of guan(關) by sketch of wrist. The location indicated the border of cun(寸) and guan(關). It also explained clearly corresponding certain cun-guan-chi(寸關尺) with Gigoo-inyoung pulse by sketch. "Euihackipmoon(醫學入門)" is a comprehensive book on medicine written by Lee-Cheon(李梴) in Ming(明) dynasty. In this book, pulse diagnosis is the most emphasized method among the four techniques of diagnosis(四診). Furthermore, it introduces detailed information about Gigoo-inyoung pulse method(氣口人迎脈法) in "Gigoo-inyoungmaekgyole(氣口人迎脈訣)". Lee-Cheon concured in the theory of "Yeongruegumbang(永類鈐方)" and "Maekgyolejijangbyungsikdoseol(脈訣指掌病式圖說)" and put a short essay about Gigoo-inyoung pulse named "Gigoo-inyoungmaekgyole(氣口人迎脈訣)" quoted from the two books. Therefore, throughout many chapters of "Euihackipmoon(醫學入門)", Gigoo-inyoung pulse is used in order to distinguish internal damage(內傷) and external contraction(外感). "Maekgyolejijangbyungsikdoseol(脈訣指掌病式圖說)" and "Euihackipmoon(醫學入門)" understood Gigoo-inyoung pulse commonly by corresponding certain cun-guan-chi(寸關尺) with Gigoo-inyoung pulse. Therefrom, Gigoo-inyoung pulse can distinguish seven emotions(七情) of internal damage(內傷) or six excesses(六淫) of external contraction(外感).
For patients with bimaxillary protrusion, significant retraction and intrusion of the anterior teeth are sometimes essential to improve the facial profile. However, severe root resorption of the maxillary incisors occasionally occurs after treatment because of various factors. For instance, it has been reported that approximation or invasion of the incisive canal by the anterior tooth roots during retraction may cause apical root damage. Thus, determination of the position of the maxillary incisors is key for orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning in such cases. Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) may be useful for simulating the post-treatment position of the maxillary incisors and surrounding structures in order to ensure safe teeth movement. Here, we present a case of Class II malocclusion with bimaxillary protrusion, wherein apical root damage due to treatment was minimized by pretreatment evaluation of the anatomical structures and simulation of the maxillary central incisor movement using CBCT. Considerable retraction and intrusion of the maxillary incisors, which resulted in a significant improvement in the facial profile and smile, were achieved without severe root resorption. Our findings suggest that CBCT-based diagnosis and treatment simulation may facilitate safe and dynamic orthodontic tooth movement, particularly in patients requiring maximum anterior tooth retraction.
Iatrogenic ureteral injury is a complication that can occur during a variety of pelvic or abdominal surgeries. The most frequent causes are gynecological ones, followed by colon and vascular surgeries. Management of ureteric injury depends on the time of diagnosis and the severity of organ damage. Injuries diagnosed intraoperatively should be treated immediately. Occasionally, intraoperative ureteral injury is overlooked, and symptoms of the late diagnosis of ureteral injury are usually nonspecific; therefore, the diagnosis is delayed for days or weeks postoperatively. Management of injuries diagnosed postoperatively is more complex. There are differing opinions on whether an initial conservative or immediate operative intervention is the best line of action. Delayed repair is suggested on the grounds that it will reduce inflammation and tissue edema. However, many authors are in favor of early repair, perhaps because tissue planes are easier to find before fibrosis becomes too dense. Ureteral injuries occurring at the level of the pelvic brim should be best managed with an end-to-end anastomosis, preferably around a ureteric stent. More distal injuries also should be ideally managed with an end-to-end anastomosis, after excision of the crushed or compromised segments. However, if the remaining distal segment is short, ureteral reimplantation is the procedure of choice. The Boari flap technique for ureteral reimplantation is invaluable in cases with a short proximal segment. Delayed recognition of iatrogenic ureteral injury may be associated with serious complications, so prompt recognition of ureteral injuries is important. Recognition of the injury before closure is the key to easy, successful, and complications-free repair. Increased awareness of the risk for ureteral damage during certain operative maneuvers is vital to prevent injury, and to decrease the incidence of iatrogenic injury. A sound knowledge of abdominal and pelvic anatomy is the best prevention.

The electromechanical impedance(E/M)-based method detects local structural damages based on variations of electrical impedance signatures which are obtained from piezoelectric sensors bonded to the structure and excited in high frequency band. In this method, temperature changes may result in significant impedance variations and lead to erroneous diagnostic results of the structure. To tackle this problem, a new technique providing a 2-dimensional damage feature related to the temperature information is proposed to distinguish the structural damage from the undesirable temperature variation. For experimental tests to validate the proposed method, damages are introduced by bolt loosening to a bolt-jointed steel beam, and impedance signals are measured under varying temperature conditions through a piezoelectric sensor attached on the beam. A freely suspended piezoelectric sensor is additionally utilized to obtain temperature information indirectly from resistance signatures. From a relationship between the damage index (from a constrained sensor) and the temperature (from a freely suspended sensor or a temperature sensor), damages can be detected more clearly under varying temperature compared to other conventional approaches.
