  • The purpose of this study is to understand the changes in the daily life and quality of life of the elderly due to the spread of COVID-19. This study attempted to supplement the limitations of quantitative analysis by performing both quantitative and qualitative analysis. A large-scale representative data, the Elderly Survey 2017 and 2020, were analyzed, and in-depth interviews were conducted with a total of 16 elderly people in Gwangju and Seoul. As a result, it was found that the overall quality of life was positively changed compared to before Corona. The frequency of contact and visits with family members decreased whereas the time spent watching TV increased. The elderly's adaptation to daily life has a series of processes since the first outbreak of COVID-19. At the beginning of the outbreak, there were fear, anxiety, and depression due to isolation, but gradually made efforts to adapt to the new situation. They reported that they realized the importance of human relationships, especially spouses, in a crisis situation and that there were some positive aspects as well. Finally, in all these results a difference was found between single-person households and multi-person households. Through the above research results, academic and policy measures were discussed.

  • The daily life activities of primary school children have been increasingly diversified. This research examined the spatio-temporal characteristics of primary school children's daily life activities. The time allocation of primary school children's daily activities was monotonous. They tended to spend most of their time in school activities, private lessons after school, and studying at home. The daily trip to school has been diversified as the result the of increase in the number of double-income families, car owners, facilities for pastime, and educational facilities for private lessons after school. The selection of educational facilities for private lessons was strongly influenced by accessibility to the residence because of the limited time budget of primary school children and the controlled trip behavior by parents. The leisure activities were considered as a minor function and took place in the interval of performances of study-related activities. The high proportion of leisure activities was found in the indoor play. The amount of the time for leisure activity was very insufficient. The spatial range and time budget were strongly influenced by the institutional conditions of parents.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between activities of daily living and health-related quality of life in ambulatory stroke patients. This was a cross-sectional survey study of 60 patients who had survived one year or more after a stroke in community. Activities of daily living were assessed using the Functional Independence Measure (FlM) and health-related quality of life using the Stroke Impact Scale (SIS). The association between FIM and SIS was examined using Pearson' s correlation. The FIM score was higher than the SIS score. Most domains of FIM exhibited a high rate (45-85%) of ceiling effects. However, only the communication and memory domain of SIS exhibited of ceiling effects. The correlation coefficients were .835 (p<.01) for FIM-motor vs. SIS-ADL, .257 (p<,05) for FIM-motor vs. SIS-communication, .596 (p<.01) for FIM-motor vs. SIS-social participation, .635 (p<.01) for FIM-cognition vs. SIS-memory, .369 (p<.01) for FIM-cognition vs. SIS-ADL, and .289 (p<.05) for FlM-cognition vs. SIS-social participation. In conclusion, the correlation between FIM-motor and SIS-social participation was higher than that of FlM-cognition and SIS-social participation. The domains of emotion and hand function of SIS showed no correlation coefficients with FIM-total. To examine the activities of daily living and the quality of life in ambulatory stroke patients in community, it is necessary to use both the FIM and SIS.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of auricular acupressure on menstrual pain, difficulties in daily life, negative feelings and autonomic nervous responses among college students. Methods: A Randomized Controlled Trial design was used. The treatment group A (n=12) receivedauricular acupressure therapy on the first or second day of their menstrual period. Treatment group B (n=18) regularly received an auricular acupressure therapy once a week for a month. The control group (n=19) received no auricular acupressure therapy. An independent t-test was used to examine pre-post test differences in the group. The ANOVA and Scheffe test were used to examine pre-post test differences among the group. Results: Subjects in treatment group A showed significantly less menstrual pain, difficulties in daily life, and negative feelings than the control group did. The participants in treatment group B also showed significantly less difficulties in daily life and negative feelings than the control group. Conclusion: The findings support that auricular acupressure therapy on menstrual periods is effective in controlling menstrual pain, difficulties in daily life, and negative feelings. As the method is simple, it would be useful for female students to learn to use this method to alleviate the symptoms related to menstruation through self care.

  • Purpose: This study was done to identify frequency, intensity of urinary dysfunction and daily life distress in women after a radical hysterectomy for cervical cancer. Methods: One hundred and fifty seven women who had undergone a radical hysterectomy and one hundred and sixty five women as healthy controls completed questionnaires on intensity of urinary dysfunction and daily life distress caused by urinary dysfunction. Results: Women with cervical cancer showed higher frequency of urinary dysfunction than healthy controls. Major urinary dysfunction for women with cervical cancer in order of frequency were night-time incontinence (odds ratio=10.39, p<.001), difficulty in starting urination, weak urine stream and sense of incomplete emptying of bladder. The highest score on intensity was difficulty in starting urination, followed by urgency, weak urine stream, daytime frequency and sense of incomplete emptying. Night-time incontinence was the urinary symptom causing the most daily life distress for cervical cancer women followed by difficulty in starting urination, urgency, sense of incomplete emptying, and night-time frequency. Conclusion: Results suggest that nurses should address the potential postoperative urinary complications and develop long term interventions to decrease urinary dysfunction and daily life distress for women who have had a radical hysterectomy for cervical cancer.

  • Data from Panel Survey of Employment for the Disabled(4th year, 187 workers) was used for analyzing the difference between hearing aid users and nonusers for their job satisfaction and daily life satisfaction. The analyses result shows that there are no significant differences in both job satisfaction and daily life satisfaction between hearing aid users and nonusers. However, job satisfaction of hearing aid users has a positive role in daily life satisfaction. Although hearing aids to the hearing impaired played very important role, it was thought to be resulted that some influence factors such as the increase of using IT devices and the expansion of communication support services weren't applied because of the nature of the panel data. These limitations of the study and implications are presented at the conclusion.
