  • We develop a nonlinear integer programming model which minimizes the total cost with the optimal number of operators to hire and their optimal allocation to the tasks under the diverse constraints such as the weekly, daily, and hourly maximum allowable abandonment rates for the time-varying inbound call volume. We present a case study based on actual data at a call center, in order to prove the validity of applying the optimization method proposed. By the one-sample two-tailed t-test, we confirm that the expected abandonment rates resulting from the optimization method are identical with the ones from the discrete-event simulation within specified confidence intervals.

  • As the super-aged society approaches rapidly, the number of people suffering from post-stroke and other neurological disorders is significantly increasing, where prompt and intensive rehabilitation is essential for such people to resume their physical activities in normal daily lives. To overcome the inherent limitations of manual physical therapy, various types of exoskeleton robots are being employed. However, the need of the hour is softer, thinner, lighter, and even stretchable systems for precisely monitoring the motion of each joint without restricting the patients' movements in rehabilitation tasks. In this paper, we discuss the technological trends and current status of emerging stretchable rehabilitation systems, in which sensors, interconnects, and signal-processing circuits are monolithically integrated within a single stretchable substrate attachable to the skin. Such skin-like stretchable rehabilitation devices are expected to provide much more convenient, user-friendly, and motivating rehabilitation to patients with neurological impairments.

  • Our society is depending on mobile devices that play a major role in our lives. Utilizing these devices is possible due to their speed power and efficiency in performing basic as well as sophisticated operations that can be found in traditional computers like desktop workstations. The challenge with using mobile devices is that organizations are concerned with the interference between personal and corporate use due to Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) trend. This paper highlights the importance of mobile devices in our daily tasks and the associated risks involved with using these devices. Several technologies and countermeasures are reviewed in this paper to secure the mobile devices from different attempts of attacks. It is important to mention that this paper focuses on technical measures rather than considering different aspects of security measures as recommended by the cybersecurity community.

  • Deep Neural Networks (DNN) has become an essential data processing architecture for the implementation of multiple computer vision tasks. Recently, DNN-based algorithms achieve much higher recognition accuracy than traditional algorithms based on shallow learning. However, training and inference DNNs require huge computational capabilities than daily usage purposes of computers. Moreover, with increased size and depth of DNNs, CPUs may be unsatisfactory since they use serial processing by default. GPUs are the solution that come up with greater speed compared to CPUs because of their Parallel Processing/Computation nature. In this paper, we analyze the inference time complexity of DNNs using well-known computer vision library, OpenCV. We measure and analyze inference time complexity for three cases, CPU, GPU-Float32, and GPU-Float16.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of customized cognitive stimulation therapy on cognition, depression, and activities of daily living in elderly with dementia in the community. The program consisted of 7 sessions, 50 minutes once a week, from March 4 to April 26, 2019. As a result, customized cognitive stimulation therapy improved the overall cognitive function, and it also increased the level of independence in the daily living and reduced the depression of the experimental group. It also showed significant differences in cognitive function when compared with control group. Therefore, the customized cognitive stimulation therapy of this study was to grasp the cognitive function of the elderly with dementia and present the cognitive tasks to the subjects for selection that induced interest and proved to be effective. Afterward, the activities were organized by difficulty according to the level of cognitive function for each session, leading to the improvement of cognitive function. Additionally, the subjects were experienced success by participating actively and continually in the activities selected with interest. Through this, it was thought to have a positive effect on the spontaneity of activities of daily living and decrease depression.

  • This research was conducted to identify the following: the home care needs of patients with dementia and the burden on the primary family care giver: to provide basic data required to develop nursing intervention for the care giver: and to suggest recommendations for medical institutions and social services that could reduce the burden on the families of people suffering from dementia. subjects of this research were 53 patients of the two Public Health Centers of Cheju Province who are suffering from dementia and their families. The instrument used in the research was Kuen. Jung Don (1994)' s assessment tool of burden in the primary family care giver who has parents with senile dementia and Yoo. Young Mi(1998)'s assessment tool of home care need. modified by the researcher in the questionnaire by a Likert rating scale. The period of data collection was from February 8. 2000 to March 10. 2000. Collected data was analyzed by SPSS, using mean, standard deviation. ANOVA, t-test and Pearson correlation coefficient. The result of this research was that there was not a significant correlation between the burden on the care giver and the level of dementia, its duration, the patient's ability to perform daily tasks, the period of care giving. and the use of social services, although the lower the patient's ability to perform daily tasks. and the worse the care giver's own health situation, the higher the burden on the primary family care giver. The following suggestions are made based on the results of this research. 1. More than half of the subjects don't use social facilities and services. More publicity and referral efforts are needed about medical institutions. nursing institutions and other facilities that specialize in services for dementia sufferers and their families. 2. Nursing services should include intensive education for the primary care giver in the most important aspects of home care. 3. Further research should be done, and should include data from all parts of Cheju Province.

  • Lean Construction recommends implementing site production management by measuring the reliability of daily production tasks, collecting the causes for failure of incomplete tasks, and identifying problems in the existing process based on the collected data. Although many research projects have been performed to introduce Lean Construction in Korea, there are not many cases in which day-to-day site production operations has been stringently evaluated based on such methods. This paper introduces three cases in which such techniques were implemented on a residential, civil infrastructure and plant project. On each project, process maps were created with the superintendents and daily production meetings were held for two weeks. Consequently, the average PPC for the three projects was 79% for PPC and 16% for PAT. In addition, the majority of the failures were due to 'Directive/Plan' and 'Prerequisites.' The results show that project stakeholders (owners, contractors, etc.) lack the ability to plan ahead and keep to their plans, and also lack the capability to synchronize workflow between themselves. The results also reveal that project participants need to be more proactive in solving process problems on site and also need to be better educated in Lean concepts and methodologies.

  • Objective: We conducted a survey to understand the current state of pharmacy services and pharmacists' thoughts in the future of the community pharmacy setting. Methods: A questionnaire was distributed to 229 pharmacists and gathered from 95 respondents. Results: We asked to pharmacists about what the ideal pharmacy duty should be in the next 10 years at the community pharmacy setting in Korea. For this question, the respondents said drug counselling (19.4%), dispensing (13.8%), long-term care of chronic disease and healthcare education (12.8%), and OTC counselling (11.5%). When asked about how much time they were spending doing certain tasks in the pharmacy, the main tasks were dispensing (23.5%), counselling (17.1%), prescription review (10.1%), and OTC counselling (5.5%). When asked about what the most important duty of a pharmacist was, medication counselling (45.4%) was the most important task that they identified and the reasons for not being able to fulfill this role properly was time shortage (78.9%) followed by the lack of counselling spaces, up-to-date knowledges, and focus on financial gains over patient counselling. Conclusion: Korean pharmacists are mainly focusing on dispensing in their daily work. Their basic responsibilities can be easily mechanized over the next few years, but the social expectations of disease-prevention and public health promotion both in current and future can not be replaced by such mechanical measures. Therefore, pharmaceutical services in Korea should be developed in more diverse and professional ways.
