  • This paper introduces a PC-based image data processing unit that is composed of preprocessor board and main processor board; The preprocessor contains Inmos A110 processor and efficient H/W architecture for fast mask/logic operations at the speed of video signal rate. It is controlled by the main processor which communicates with the host PC. The main processor board contains TI TMS320C31 digital signal processor, and can access the frame memory of the processor for extra S/W tasks. We test 3*3, 5*5 masks and logic operations on 386/486/DSP and compare the result with that of the proposed unit. The result shows ours are extremely faster than conventional CPU based approach, that is, over several hundred times faster than even DSP.

  • In this paper, a controller for the linear motor with high speed and stiffness is implemented using SERCOS interface which is a real time communication protocol between the numerical controller(NC) and the motor driver. The proposed controller is mainly composed of current, speed, and position controller, which are designed using the 32-bit DSP(TMS320C31), a high-integrated logic device (EPM7128), and Intelligent Power Module(IPM) to enhance reliability and compactness of the system. The experimental results show the effective performance of the proposed controller for he linear motor with high speed and stiffness.

  • In this paper, a high speed distance relay, using a digital signal processor(DSP) is presented. The idea of the protective algorithm is based on the least square method using minimum data window to minimize the relay operating time. A new disign concept for a low-pass filter is proposed. This analog low pass filter has minimum transient response time. The main processor of the relay is TMS320C31. According to a series of real time tests, the proposed protective relay shows reliable and fast operating characteristics.

  • In this paper, a controller design for high speed and stiffness linear motor is implemented. The designed controller is mainly composed of speed and current controller, which are carried out by the high-speed digital signal processor(DSP). In addition the PWM inverter is controlled by space voltage PWM method. This system is implemented by using 32-bit DSP(TMS320C31), a high-integrated logic device(EPM7128), and IPM(Intelligent Power Module) for compact and powerful system design. The experimental results show the effective performance of controller for high speed and stiffness linear motor.

  • This paper presents a Inertial Measuring Unit(IMU) for motion measurement of an AUV. The IMU is composed of three parts: inertial sensors with three servo accelerometers and three rate gyros, an analog/digital interface board, and a signal processing board with TMS320C31 DSP processor. The IMU is a class of strap-down inwetial navigation system does not applicable directly to the navigation system in consequence of the AUV and integrated sensors for an integrated navigation system of the AUV. Fast calculstion of direction cosine matrix for the coordinate transformation body to reference is obtained through the DSP processor. A switching algotrithm is used to lessen the low frequency drift effect of the gyros in the vertical plane with use of low pass filtering of the signal of the accelerometers.

  • This paper discusses the development of a reactive power controller using digital signal processing. Digital Signal Processing is the technique of using digital devices to Process continuous signals or data, often in real-time. And DSP algorithms are associated with a discrete time interval between input samples. When one designs a digital filter, one can use a Laplace transform to determine the continuous time frequency response. The corresponding discrete time transform is called Z transform and depends upon discrete samples of the input spaced equally in time. The objectives of this paper are to minimize real power losses and improve the power factor of a given system. Also, the implementation of a direct-form non recursive filter on the TMS320C31 has been described. The application of this microprocessor-based controller using DSP on test system reveals its numerous advantages. Performance and features of the controller for the reactive power control are analyzed.

  • In this paper, intelligent methods using digital protection relay in power SCADA system is developed in order to protect power systems by means of timely fault detection during operation and control at starting for induction motor which have various load environments and capacities in power systems. The digital protective relay was designed with DSP CPU(TMS320C31) to protect and measure more quickly and precisely. The test result on the basis of KEMC 1120 and IEC60255, show that the operation time error of the digital motor protection relay is improved within ${\pm}5%$. Also, we can control motors at starting according to starting types with simple method as programmable sequence editor. So we can improve the demerits of high cost and much manhour for rework.

The designed controller is mainly composed of speed and current control, which are carried out by the high-speed digital signal processor(DSP).   • SRM(Switched Reluctance Motor) drives require the accurate position and speed information of the rotor. These informations are generally provided by a shaft encoder or resolver. High temperature, EMI, and dust may make detection performance deteriorate. Therefore, the elimination of the position and speed sensor is desirable. In this paper, a nonlinear adaptive observer using the MRAS(Model Reference Adaptive System) is proposed. The rotor speed and position are estimated by the adaptation law using the real and estimated currents. The stability of the adaptive observer is proved by Lyapunov stability theory. The proposed methods are implemented with TMS320C31 DSP. Experimental results prove that the observer has a good estimation performance of the rotor speed and position despite of the parameter variations and loads, and the speed control can be accomplished in the wide speed range.

  • This paper describes the dissipation factor measuring device for insulating oil in operating pole transformer by DSP(digital signal processor). After applying voltage to the sensor which is installed in a transformer, acquire source voltage and current of sensor using FFT techniques, then we could evaluate the dissipation factor of insulating oil. To improve measuring accuracy and processing speed, we use TMS320C31 DSP, FFT and data analysis techniques. Also we suggest deterioration criterion of insulating oil and compared the developed diagnosis device with schering bridge on deteriorated insulating oil. The result of this paper show that the developed measuring device can be used as diagnosis device for the pole transformers.
