  • In this study, a physical and chemical properties analysis was conducted for PCSP to evaluate properties of its materials and, for comparison purpose, was also conducted for CSP. The result of experiment confirmed improvement of iron recovery rate due to introduction of rapid water-cooling equipment and greater density of exterior and interior structure through SEM observation and porosity measurement. Also, SEM, XRD and DSC-TGA analysis showed that content of f-CaO in PCSP was minuscule so it was decided that problems of material stability including f-CaO-caused bulging failure, which has been problematic, can be solved.

  • IPNs have interpenetrating motion and phase separation behavior of independent polymers, respectively, and also these are affected by the physical interaction of polymer components. First of all, 2- and 3-component IPNs based on PU are prepared by combination with two or three components of PU, PMMA, PS and epoxy resin. And then the entire physical properties concerning morphological and mechanical behaviors of these IPNs are measured by employing FT-IR, SEM, Rheovibron, and DSC, etc. Compared with pure component, Tg's of IPN are shifted to higher temperature in all IPN kinds, and these are considered in attribution to internal movement of glass transition temperature or partial phenomenon of interpenetration. Rheovibron measurement results in a broader distribution with peaks of tan${\delta}$ or E", and this morphologically represents a medium degree of partially mixed IPNs in confirmation of SEM photographs.

  • Thermal analyses are conducted to measure chemical kinetic parameters of an unknown liquid fuel with various components. Thermal Analyses are divided into two different methods such as TGA(Thermo-Gravimetric Analysis) and DSC(Differential Scanning Calorimety). Non-isothermal experimental results are analyzed by adopting TGA and they are filtered by Freeman-Carroll method. As a results of the analysis, chemical parameters of the activation temperature and the reaction order are measured to be 6128.2 K and 1.4, respectively. Furthermore, the chemical kinetic parameters are obtained by a variety of mathematical processing methods. It has been found that they show a little difference depending on the processing method.

  • In this work, the electrical and thermal properties of polyimide/multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWNT) nanocomposites were investigated. The polyimide/MWNT nanocomposites contained from 0 to 2.0 wt % of MWNT. The electrical properties of the polyimide films were characterized by a specific resistance measurement. The thermal properties were evaluated using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC). It was found that the thermal properties of the polyimide nanocomposites increased with increasing MWNT content and specific resistance as well. This result indicated that the crosslinking of polyimide/MWNT nanocomposites was enhanced by good distribution of the MWNT in the polyimide resins, resulting in the increase of the electrical and thermal properties of the nanocomposites.

  • Poly(ethylene 2,6-naphthalate) (PEN)/Poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) copolymers were synthesized by two step reaction during the melt copolymerization process. The first step was the esterification reaction of dimethyl-2,6-naphthalenedicarbox-ylate (2,6-NDC) and ethylene glycol (EG). The second step was the condensation polymerization of bishydroxyethylnaphthalate (BHEN) and PEG. The copolymers contained 10 mol% of PEG units with different molecular weights. Structures and thermal properties of the copolymers were studied by using $^1{H-NMR}$, DSC, TGA, etc. Especially, while the intrinsic viscosities of PEN/PEG copolymers increased with increasing molecular weights of PEG, but the glass transition temperature, the cold crystallization temperature, and the weight loss temperature of the copolymers decreased with increasing molecular weights of PEG. Consequently, the hydrophilicities by means of contact angle measurement and moisture content of the copolymer films were found to be significantly improved with increasing molecular weights of PEG.

  • In this paper, new non-chiral molecules with semi-fluorinated alkyl chains were synthesized varying the structure of central bent core unit. Their mesomorphic properties were investigated by DSC and polarized microscopy. The compound with 1,3-dihydroxy phenylene unit could form an enantiomeric smectic phase, but the remaining compounds with bent-core mesogenic unit were not liquid crystalline. In this presentation, their x-ray measurement and electro-optical property will be also described.

  • In this study, the properties of coil spring made by Cu-Zn-Al and B added shape memory alloys are investigated. The measurement of recovery displacement and energy with increasing weight, and thermocycling properties have been studied using displacement measuring device. Transformation temperature and phase change by thermocycling have been also investigated by DSC and X-ray diffractometer. Grain size of the alloy is refined from 1.2mm to $400{\mu}m$ by 0.06wt% of B addition. The maximum recovery energy of the coil spring for B added alloy is larger than that of no B added alloy, it is because of grain refinement. And shape memory ability of the coil spring by thermocycling decrease with increasing thermocycling after thermocycle under load. The degradation of shape memory properties of coil spring by thermocycling is improved by B addition.

  • Gel-like compounds containing flammable solvents were prepared to use fur cleaning agents in field of innovative industries and general purposes. And experiments were conducted to improve the defects of liquified flammable solvents from the view point of safety and health hazards. Flammable solvents used in this study were several single component flammable solvents(turpentine oil, N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone(NMP), d-limonene) and multi component flammable solvent(gasoline and ethanol). For gelation of flammable solvents, commercially Known as Aerosil(equation omitted) 200 fumed silica and triethanolamine(TEA) were used as gelation agent dispersant. The analyses on properties of gel-like compounds was studied by gelation and viscosity test pH test, volatility test and differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) measurement. The experimental results indicate that gel-like compounds containing flammable solvents have pH stability, high viscosity, volatile organic compounds(VOC) control by the decrease of volatility and odor component generation, fluidity control etc. From the experimental values, it can be predicted that the safety in the working place is improved by manufacturing flammable solvents into gel-like compounds.

  • Graphene-based polymer nanocomposites are very promising candidates for new high-performance materials that offer improved mechanical, barrier, thermal and electrical properties. Herein, an approach is presented to improve the mechanical, thermal and electrical properties of unsaturated polyester resin (UPR) by using graphene nano sheets (GNS). The extent of dispersion of GNS into the polymer matrix was also observed by using the scanning electron microscopy (SEM) which indicated homogeneous dispersion of GNS through the UPR matrix and strong interfacial adhesion between the GNS and UPR matrix were achieved in the UPR composite, which enhanced the mechanical properties. The tensile strength of the nanocomposites improved at a tune of 52% at a GNS concentration of 0.05%. Again the flexural strength also increased around 92% at a GNS concentration of 0.05%. Similarly the thermal properties and the electrical properties for the nanocomposites were also improved as evidenced from the differential scanning caloriemetry (DSC) and dielectric strength measurement.

  • Copolymers with two different side groups, 2,2,2-trifluoroethoxy and p-chlorophenoxy groups, have been synthesized by reaction of poly(dichlorophosphazene) with their sodium salts, and characterized by elemental analysis, gel permeation chromatography, IR and NMR spectroscopies. The molecular weight measurement has shown that the weight average molecular weight, ${\bar{M}}_w$ of the copolymers are all above $10^6$ and their molecular weight distributions are monomodal and narrow (${\bar{M}}_w/{\bar{M}}_n<4$). Thermal properties of these copolymers measured by DSC and TGA exhibited to be intermediate between those of the two corresponding homopolymers.
