  • On-going convergence between broadcasting and communication is currently bringing in lots of drastic changes to multimedia services to the home. The FTTH-based home networks will be the interface among the digital home appliances for broadcast digital contents as weil as for broadband data connection. In this paper, we discuss several design issues for home gateway architecture that effectively distributes realtime broadcasting contents (from either the headend in the access network or the satellite/terrestrial broadcasts) to heterogeneous devices in the home network.

  • The state assignment for a finite state machine greatly affects the delay, area, and testabilities of the sequential circuits. In order to minimize the dependencies among state variables, therefore possibly to reduce the length and number of feedback cycles, a new state assignment technique based on m-block partition is introduced in this paper. After the completion of state assignment and logic synthesis, partial scan design is performed to choose minimal number of scan flip-flops. Experiment shows drastic improvement in testabilities while preserving low area and delay overhead.

Specificity of Auxin Action on Ethylene Production in Corn Coleoptile Segments (옥수수(Zea mays L.) 자엽초 절편에서 에틸렌 생성에 대한 오옥신의 작용 특성)

  • The ability of several auxin analogs to induce ethylene production was tested in the corn coleoptile. The synthetic auxins 1-naphthaleneacetic acid (1-NAA) and 2, 4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2, 4-D) had strong stimulatory effects on ethylene induction surpassing that of IAA. Both 2-naphthalaneacetic acid (2-NAA) and 2, 6-dichlorophenoxy acetic acid (2, 6-D), structural analogs of these auxins, respectively, were found to be inactive. Treatment with NPA, a strong inhibitor of polar auxin transport, led to drastic increase in IAA-induced ethylene production while it has bo effect on ethylene production induced by 1-NAA. A positive correlative existed between intracellular auxin level and ethylene production.

  • Due to increasing demand toward improving product quality, various methodologies have been introduced. A brush type grinding tool is one of the most frequently used one to facilitate required process. In order to produce consistent burr shape, various machining conditions have been combined applied to disk grinding process. It has been observed that the burr dimension(shape and width) depends on the inclination angle between grinding disk and workpiece. Drastic increase of tool Wear has been also observed along the inclination angle variation. Various burr shapes have been captured and analyzed using image processing technique.

Migration in concentrated suspension of spherical particles dispersed in polymer solution

  • In this symposium paper, the migration and hydrodynamic diffusion of non-colloidal, spherical particles suspended in polymer solutions are considered under Poiseuille or torsional flows. The migration phenomena in polymer solutions are compared with those in Newtonian fluids and the effect of fluid elasticity is discussed. The experimental results on particle migration in dilute polymer solution reveal that even a slight change in the rheological property of the dispersing medium can induce drastic differences in flow behavior and migration of particles, especially in dilute and semi-concentrated suspensions.

  • In many countries safety management on track worker have been carried out alter serious accidents and drastic safety improvement have been achieved as a result of safety management. In order to improve track worker safety in Korea, recent 5-year accident data were analysed and other countries' safety management systems were reviewed. As an result of this study 5-basic requirements for the safety improvement on track worker are derived: education, certification, clear responsibility definition, work planning and upgrade of train warning system.

  • An intelligent integrated control system is designed for the active steering and the left/right traction force distribution control of electric vehicles, where input-output linearization is employed. Also, a fuzzy-rule-based cornering force estimator is suggested to avoid using an uncertain highly nonlinear expression, and a neural network compensator is additively utilized for the estimator to correctly find cornering forece. With these techniques, the proposed control system is shown by simulation results to be robust against drastic change of the external environments such as road conditions.

  • We have prepared FePtCu L10 bit patterned media, of which magnetic properties and microstructural details are obtained by direct measurement and observations. The patterning process on the continuous film induced a drastic changes in the coercivity, SFD, and angular dependencies. The origin of the changes are explained by micromagnetic simulations with the finite element models including the details of the microstructures.

  • Drastic performance increase and accelerated progress in organic light-emitting diodes from solutions are shown using solution-processable small molecules based on the core structures of vacuum-evaporable materials. Systematic modification of small-molecule materials toward better processability from solutions at identical electro-optical properties is shown. This is demonstrated to lead to a significant improvement in the device performance.

  • This paper is intended to describe the idiosyncratic aspects of the verb way construction in English, clarifying the productivity property of this construction and to elucidate the claim that this construction displays the properties of language-general, not a language-particular by comparing the behaviors from Dutch. And this paper will argue against the lexical approach and explain the drastic mismatches in syntax and semantics responsible for the constructional properties as one type of directional motion constructions by proposing a constructional analysis in HPSG.
