  • Rectangular shape detection plays an important role in many image recognition systems. However, it requires continued research for its improved performance. In this study, we propose a strong rectangular shape detection algorithm, which combines the canny edge and line detection algorithms based on the perpendicularity and parallelism of a rectangle. First, we use the canny edge detection algorithm in order to obtain an image edge map. We then find the edge of the contour by using the connected component and find each edge contour from the edge map by using a DP (douglas-peucker) algorithm, and convert the contour into a polyline segment by using a DP algorithm. Each of the segments is compared with each other to calculate parallelism, whether or not the segment intersects the perpendicularity intersecting corner necessary to detect the rectangular shape. Using the perpendicularity and the parallelism, the four best line segments are selected and whether a determined the rectangular shape about the combination. According to the result of the experiment, the proposed rectangular shape detection algorithm strongly showed the size, location, direction, and color of the various objects. In addition, the proposed algorithm is applied to the license plate detecting and it wants to show the strength of the results.

  • To segment instances of vehicle classes in a sparse stereo-matching data set, this paper presents an algorithm for clustering based on DP (Dynamic Programming). The algorithm is agglomerative: it begins with each element in the set as a separate cluster and merges them into successively larger clusters according to similarity of two clusters. Here, similarity is formulated as a cost function of DP. The proposed algorithm is proven to be effective by experiments performed on various images acquired by a moving vehicle.

  • In this paper, we consider the problem of scheduling n jobs with sequence-dependent processing times on a set of parallel-identical machines. The processing time of each job consists of a pure processing time and a sequence-dependent setup time. The objective is to maximize the total remaining machine available time which can be used for other tasks. For the problem, we first propose a dynamic programming(DP) algorithm for sequencing jobs processed on a single machine. The algorithm is then extended to handle jobs on parallel-identical machines. Finally, we developed an improved version of the algorithm which generates optimal solutions using much smaller amount of memory space and computing time. Computational results are provided to illustrate the performance of the DP algorithms.

  • This paper describes a music information retrieval system which uses humming as the key for retrieval Humming is an easy way for the user to input a melody. However, there are several problems with humming that degrade the retrieval of information. One problem is a human factor. Sometimes people do not sing accurately, especially if they are inexperienced or unaccompanied. Another problem arises from signal processing. Therefore, a music information retrieval method should be sufficiently robust to surmount various humming errors and signal processing problems. A retrieval system has to extract pitch from the user's humming. However pitch extraction is not perfect. It often captures half or double pitches. even if the extraction algorithms take the continuity of the pitch into account. Considering these problems. we propose a system that takes multiple pitch candidates into account. In addition to the frequencies of the pitch candidates. the confidence measures obtained from their powers are taken into consideration as well. We also propose the use of an algorithm with three dimensions that is an extension of the conventional DP algorithm, so that multiple pitch candidates can be treated. Moreover in the proposed algorithm. DP paths are changed dynamically to take deltaPitches and IOIratios of input and reference notes into account in order to treat notes being split or unified. We carried out an evaluation experiment to compare the proposed system with a conventional system. From the experiment. the proposed method gave better retrieval performance than the conventional system.

  • The change of the global performance of a turret-moored FPSO (Floating Production Storage Offloading) with DP (Dynamic Positioning) control is simulated, analyzed, and compared for two different internal turret location cases; bow and midship. Both collinear and non-collinear 100-yr GOM (Gulf of Mexico) storm environments and three cases (mooring-only, with DP position control, with DP position+heading control) are considered. The horizontal trajectory, 6DOF (degree of freedom) motions, fairlead mooring and riser tension, and fuel consumptions are compared. The PID (Proportional-Integral-Derivative) controller based on LQR (linear quadratic regulator) theory and the thrust-allocation algorithm which is based on the penalty optimization theory are implemented in the fully-coupled time-domain hull-mooring-riser-DP simulation program. Both in collinear and non-collinear 100-yr WWC (wind-wave-current) environments, the advantage of mid-ship turret is demonstrated by the significant reduction in heave at the turret location due to the minimal coupling with pitch mode, which is beneficial to mooring and riser design. However, in the non-collinear WWC environment, the mid-turret case exhibits unfavorable weathervaning characteristics, which can be reduced by employing DP position and heading controls as demonstrated in the present case studies. The present study also reveals the plausible cause of the failure of mid-turret Gryphon Alpha FPSO in milder environment than its survival condition.

In this paper, applying One-stage DMS/DP algorithm to the recognition experiments, we can solve these problems to what degree. Recognition experiment is peformed for Korean DDD area names with DMS model of 20 sections and word unit template. We carried out the experiment in speaker dependent and speaker independent, and get a recognition rates of 97.7% and 81.7% respectively.

  • This paper proposed a division algorithm of performance complexity $O{\frac{n(n+1)}{2}}$ for a change-making problem(CMP) in which polynomial time algorithms are not known as NP-hard problem. CMP seeks to minimize the sum of the xj number of coins exchanged when a given amount of money C is exchanged for cj,j=1,2,⋯,n coins. Known polynomial algorithms for CMPs are greedy algorithms(GA), divide-and-conquer (DC), and dynamic programming(DP). The optimal solution can be obtained by DP of O(nC), and in general, when given C>2n, the performance complexity tends to increase exponentially, so it cannot be called a polynomial algorithm. This paper proposes a simple algorithm that calculates quotient by dividing upper triangular matrices and main diagonal for k×n matrices in which only j columns are placed in descending order of cj of n for cj ≤ C and i rows are placed k excluding all the dividers in cj. The application of the proposed algorithm to 39 benchmarking experimental data of various types showed that the optimal solution could be obtained quickly and accurately with only a calculator.

  • Today's hightech society requires thousands of different products which ultimately result in billions of tons of materials discarded, most of which end up in landfills. Therefore industrial circles could not help thinking about environmental problems by regulations of government or pressures of consumer. Generally, the related research subjects are classified into both of environmentally conscious manufacturing and product recovery, where product recovery aims to minimize the amount of waste sent to landfills by recovering materials and parts from old or outdated products by means of recycling and remanufacturing (including reuse of parts and products). In this research, we constructed a model for remanufacturing various goods using a single facility and developed a dynamic programing(DP) algorithm based upon the optimal solution characterization. We showed the efficiency of the developed DP algorithm with a numerical example.
