Photoplethysmography (PPG) is a noninvasive technique that can be used to conveniently measure heart rate (HR) and thus obtain relevant health-related information. However, developing an automated PPG system is difficult, because its waveforms are susceptible to motion artifacts and between-patient variation, making its interpretation difficult. We use deep neural network (DNN) filters to mimic the cognitive ability of a human expert who can distinguish the features of PPG altered by noise from various sources. Systolic (S), onset (O), and first derivative peaks (W) are recognized by three different DNN filters. In addition, the boundaries of uninformative regions caused by artifacts are identified by two different filters. The algorithm reliably derives the HR and presents recognition scores for the S, O, and W peaks and artifacts with only a 0.7-s delay. In the evaluation using data from 11 patients obtained from PhysioNet, the algorithm yields 8643 (86.12%) reliable HR measurements from a total of 10 036 heartbeats, including some with uninformative data resulting from arrhythmias and artifacts.
Image processing is one of the major techniques that are used for computer vision. Nowadays, researchers are using machine learning and deep learning for the aforementioned task. In recent years, digit recognition tasks, i.e., automatic meter recognition approach using electric or water meters, have been studied several times. However, two major issues arise when we talk about previous studies: first, the use of the deep learning technique, which includes a large number of parameters that increase the computational cost and consume more power; and second, recent studies are limited to the detection of digits and not storing or providing detected digits to a database or mobile applications. This paper proposes a system that can detect the digital number of meter readings using a lightweight deep neural network (DNN) for low power consumption and send those digits to an Android mobile application in real-time to store them and make life easy. The proposed lightweight DNN is computationally inexpensive and exhibits accuracy similar to those of conventional DNNs.
Wake Up Word (WUW) is a short utterance used to convert speech recognizer to recognition mode. The WUW defined by the user who actually use the speech recognizer is called user-defined WUW. In this paper, to recognize user-defined WUW, we construct traditional Gaussian Mixture Model-Hidden Markov Model (GMM-HMM), Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA)-GMM-HMM and LDA-Deep Neural Network (DNN)-HMM based system and compare their performances. Also, to improve recognition accuracy of the WUW system, a threshold method is applied to each model, which significantly reduces the error rate of the WUW recognition and the rejection failure rate of non-WUW simultaneously. For LDA-DNN-HMM system, when the WUW error rate is 9.84 %, the rejection failure rate of non-WUW is 0.0058 %, which is about 4.82 times lower than the LDA-GMM-HMM system. These results demonstrate that LDA-DNN-HMM model developed in this paper proves to be highly effective for constructing user-defined WUW recognition system.
In this study, we propose a model that extracts and analyzes features from deep learning-based speech signals, generates filters, and utilizes these filters to recognize emotions in speech signals. We evaluate the performance of emotion recognition accuracy using the proposed model. According to the simulation results using the proposed model, the average emotion recognition accuracy of DNN and RNN was very similar, at 84.59% and 84.52%, respectively. However, we observed that the simulation time for DNN was approximately 44.5% shorter than that of RNN, enabling quicker emotion prediction.
With the development of the sharing economy, existing recommender services are changing from user-item recommendations to user-user recommendations. The most important consideration is that all users should have the best possible satisfaction. To achieve this outcome, the matching service adds information between users and items necessary for the existing recommender service and information between users, so higher-level data mining is required. To this end, this paper proposes a user-to-user matching service (UTU-MS) employing the prediction of mutual satisfaction based on learning. Users were divided into consumers and suppliers, and the properties considered for recommendations were set by filtering and weighting. Based on this process, we implemented a convolutional neural network (CNN)-deep neural network (DNN)-based model that can predict each supplier's satisfaction from the consumer perspective and each consumer's satisfaction from the supplier perspective. After deriving the final mutual satisfaction using the predicted satisfaction, a top recommendation list is recommended to all users. The proposed model was applied to match guests with hosts using Airbnb data, which is a representative sharing economy platform. The proposed model is meaningful in that it has been optimized for the sharing economy and recommendations that reflect user-specific priorities.
This paper is a study to develop a deep neural network (DNN) blood glucose prediction model based on heart rate (HR) and heart rate variability (HRV) data measured by PPG-based sensors. MLP deep learning consists of an input layer, a hidden layer, and an output layer with 11 independent variables. The learning results of the blood glucose prediction model are MAE=0.3781, MSE=0.8518, and RMSE=0.9229, and the coefficient of determination (R2) is 0.9994. The study was able to verify the feasibility of glycemic control using non-blood vital signs using PPG-based digital devices. In conclusion, a standardized method of acquiring and interpreting PPG-based vital signs, a large data set for deep learning, and a study to demonstrate the accuracy of the method may provide convenience and an alternative method for blood glucose management in dogs.
The deep neural networks (DNN) that can replicate the behavior of the human expert who recognizes the characteristics of ECG waveform have been developed and studied to analyze ECG. However, although the existing DNNs can not provide the explanations for their decisions, those trials have attempted to determine whether patients have certain diseases or not and those decisions could not be accepted because of the absence of relating theoretical basis. In addition, these DNNs required a lot of training data to obtain sufficient accuracy in spite of the difficulty in the acquisition of relating clinical data. In this study, a small-sized continuous data processing DNN (C-DNN) was suggested to determine the simple characteristics of ECG wave that were not required additional explanations about its decisions and the C-DNN can be easily trained with small training data. Although it can analyze small input data that was selected in narrow region on whole ECG, it can continuously scan all ECG data and find important points such as start and end points of P, QRS and T waves within a short time. The star and end points of ECG waves determined by the C-DNNs were compared with the results performed by human experts to estimate the accuracies of the C-DNNs. The C-DNN has 150 inputs, 51 outputs, two hidden layers and one output layer. To find the start and end points, two C-DNNs were trained through deep learning technology and applied to a parameter acquisition algorithms. 12 lead ECG data measured in four patients and obtained through PhysioNet was processed to make training data by human experts. The accuracy of the C-DNNs were evaluated with extra data that were not used at deep learning by comparing the results between C-DNNs and human experts. The averages of the time differences between the C-DNNs and experts were 0.1 msec and 13.5 msec respectively and those standard deviations were 17.6 msec and 15.7 msec. The final step combining the results of C-DNN through the waveforms of 12 leads was successfully determined all 33 waves without error that the time differences of human experts decision were over 20 msec. The reliable decision of the ECG wave's start and end points benefits the acquisition of accurate ECG parameters such as the wave lengths, amplitudes and intervals of P, QRS and T waves.

In Remote Sensing, a machine learning based SVM model is typically utilized for land cover classification. And study using neural network models is also being carried out continuously. But study using high-resolution imagery of KOMPSAT is insufficient. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to assess the accuracy of land cover classification by neural network models using high-resolution KOMPSAT-3 satellite imagery. After acquiring satellite imagery of coastal areas near Gyeongju City, training data were produced. And land cover was classified with the SVM, ANN and DNN models for the three items of water, vegetation and land. Then, the accuracy of the classification results was quantitatively assessed through error matrix: the result using DNN model showed the best with 92.0% accuracy. It is necessary to supplement the training data through future multi-temporal satellite imagery, and to carry out classifications for various items.

Deep learning technology is used in various fields such as self-driving cars, image creation, and virtual voice implementation, and deep learning accelerators have been developed for high-speed operation in hardware devices. However, several side channel attacks that recover secret information inside the accelerator using side-channel information generated when the deep learning accelerator operates have been recently researched. In this paper, we implemented a DNN(Deep Neural Network)-based MNIST digit classifier on a microprocessor and attempted a correlation power analysis attack to confirm that the weights of deep learning accelerator could be sufficiently recovered. In addition, to counter these power analysis attacks, we proposed a Node-CUT shuffling method that applies the principle of misalignment at the time of power measurement. It was confirmed through experiments that the proposed countermeasure can effectively defend against side-channel attacks, and that the additional calculation amount is reduced by more than 1/3 compared to using the Fisher-Yates shuffling method.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the performance of deep neural network model in order to determine whether there is a risk factor for coronary artery disease based on the cardiac variation parameter. The study used unidentifiable 297 data to evaluate the performance of the model. Input data consists of heart rate parameters, which are SDNN (standard deviation of the N-N intervals), PSI (physical stress index), TP (total power), VLF (very low frequency), LF (low frequency), HF (high frequency), RMSSD (root mean square of successive difference) APEN (approximate entropy) and SRD (successive R-R interval difference), the age group and sex. Output data are divided into normal and patient groups, and the patient group consists of those diagnosed with diabetes, high blood pressure, and hyperlipidemia among the various risk factors that can cause coronary artery disease. Based on this, a binary classification model was applied using Deep Neural Network of deep learning techniques to classify normal and patient groups efficiently. To evaluate the effectiveness of the model used in this study, Kernel SVM (support vector machine), one of the classification models in machine learning, was compared and evaluated using same data. The results showed that the accuracy of the proposed deep neural network was train set 91.79% and test set 85.56% and the specificity was 87.04% and the sensitivity was 83.33% from the point of diagnosis. These results suggest that deep learning is more efficient when classifying these medical data because the train set accuracy in the deep neural network was 7.73% higher than the comparative model Kernel SVM.
