Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of oral health care programs in 3 school-based oral health care center among primary schoolchildren. Methods: School-based oral health care programs included fluoride mouth rinsing, pit and fissure sealing for permanent premolars and molars, fluoride gel application and chewing of xylitol candy. All of the programs were carried out by one dental hygienist among 'D' primary schoolchildren in Daegu city under the supervision of a dentist. Baseline dental examinations were completed and preventive care was implemented for 544 children during one year. All of the children visited a school-based oral health care center every three months for a regular check-up. The final oral examination was conducted from March 15 to April 1, 2004. The data analysis data was made on the basis of SAS 8.01. Mean differences between 2003 and 2004 data were compared by paired t-test. Corresponding p-values were considered significant at values less than 0.05. Results: The DMF rate and DFT index were reduced to 8.0% and 8.4% during one year respectively, but there were no statistically significant differences. The DMF rate was significantly reduced (16.3%) after a one year program of school-based oral health care practice. The DMFT(Decay Missing Filling Tooth) index was also reduced compared to 2003 throughout the entire grade. Conclusion: School-based oral health care programs can reduce the prevalence of dental caries prevalence among schoolchildren during one year. This program also improved the oral health capacity of schoolchildren. It is recommend that the school-based oral health care program should be extended to every primary school in Korea.

For the purpose of knowing oral status of handicapped persons and surveying correlative factors, authors interviewed and inspected 259 persons (cerebral palsy 143, mental retardation 101, Down's syndrome 15) from six year to thirty years old in Kwangju. The results were as follows. 1. The dmf rate and dft index of handicapped persons according to age were lower than that of report of normal persons. 2. The DMF rate and DMFT index of handicapped persons increased with age and were similar to or lower than that of report of normal persons by the age of twenty, but were higher after that age. There was no significant difference between handicaps in DMFT rate. 3. Percentage of toothbrushing by himself or herself was 74% in mental retardation, 69% in Down's syndrome, and 48% in cerebral palsy and the frequency of toothbrushing per day of mental retardation, Down's syndrome was higher than that of cerebral palsy. The frequency of toothbrushing per day increased with age. The number of toothbrushing of handicapped persons was slightly higher than that of report of normal persons. 4. Prevalence of gingivitis was 62% in cerebral palsy, 48% in Down's syndrome and 60% in mental retardation. Prevalence of gingivitis increased with age, and was higher than that of report of normal persons. 5. Percentage of tooth anomaly was 15% in Down's syndrome, 8.5% in mental retardation and 4.9% in cerebral palsy. In this study, dental caries of handicapped persons was similar to or lower than that of normal persons and increased with age. The prevalence of gingivitis was much higher in handicapped persons. Subject or frequency of toothbrushing had no influence on the dental caries and gingivitis, education of oral health and system are needed.

In the mental Disorders the F.T. rate was higher in females than in males D.T. rate higher in males than in females and MT rate, lower in males than in females 5. In generally D.T. rate in the mental Disorders was lower than in Controls, M.T. rate resembled as Controls and F.T. rate higher
This study was intended to provide basic data for developing an oral health management program for diabetic patients by understanding their oral health condition and defining the influence of diabetes on oral health. The following results were obtained through intraoral examination and questionnaire surveys done on one hundred and twenty two diabetic outpatients who visited endocrine department at Yeungnam University in Daegu and internal medicine department at Chungmu hospital in Cheonahn for 4 months from November, 2005 to February, 2006. DMF index according to the gender was significantly higher in females only in Filling index (p <0.05). Missing index increased as the age increased (p <0.001). Papillary bleeding index was significantly higher in females (p <0.05). Several indices which show oral status significantly higher as the duration of diabetes increased and as the blood sugar level before meal was higher (p <0.01, p <0.05). In a group that received oral hygiene education, several indices which show periodontal status were significantly lower than those in a group that didn't have it (p <0.001). According to the results, not only diabetic control but also general oral care should be included in self-management education for diabetic patients and this should be accomplished by appropriate oral health education program and staffs.

There have been many efforts on the generating metal nanocrystals enclosed by high-index facets for the use as highly active catalysts. This paper describes a facile synthesis of Au trisoctahedra with high-index facets. In brief, the Au trisoctahdra were prepared by reduction of $HAuCl_4$ in N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) containing poly (vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) and trace amount of $AgNO_3$. The Ag ions in the reaction solution played a critical role in controlling the trisoctahedral shape of the final product by underpotential deposition (UPD) on the Au surfaces. The as-prepared Au trisoctahedra were single crystal and enclosed by high-index {441}, {773} and {331} facets.

This study was purposed to develop the fluoride mouthrinsing project through the public health system in a rural area. This project was performed under the management of the public health dentist for the 3rd grade students selected from the 5 primary schools at Goksunggun in Chonnam area. Fluoride mouthrinsing was executed with 0.2% neutral sodium fluoride solution once a week. After 1 year's fluoride mouthrinsing project, DMFT index, DMF rate frequencies of toothbrushing, simplified oral hygiene index, and the responses to fluoride mouthrinsing project of the school children participated were examined. The results obtained from this study were as follows: 1. The fluoride mouthrinsing project for school children was performed average 10 times a year by the public health dentist. They were relatively little active to perform this project. 2. There was no significant difference in the increasement of DMFT index and DMF rate during 1 year between control and fluoride mouthrinsing group. 3. Control group was increased higher than fluoride mouthrinsing group in simplified oral hygiene index. 4. Toothbrushing frequencies increased in both groups. 5. 80.4% of school children participated in fluoride mouthrinsing project was responded to like it, and 78.2% among them was responded the project to be beneficial for their dental health. 6. 39.2% of school children was responded to have water-like taste for fluoride solution. But 34.0% of them was done to have strange taste. On consideration of above findings, this fluoride mouthrinsing project was not well performed by the public health dentists and also the oral health status of school children participated was not significantly improved by this project. Therefore, to perform continually this project well, it was recommended that this project should be performed by other person such as dental hygienist rather than public health dentist.
