PDP 기술 동향 Over View

  • 차세대 디스플레이로 부각되는 FPD(Flat Display Panel) 가운데 Digital TV 및 산업용 Display로 각광 받고 있는 PDP(Plasma Display Panel)는 최근 LCD, Projection Display 등의 비약적인 기술발전으로 인한 치열한 경쟁 속에서도 지속적인 기술발전을 거듭하고 있다. PDP는 자발광 Display로서 CRT에 버금가는 밝기, 선명성, 넓은 시야각, 색재현력 등의 장점을 가지고 있으며 소비전력, 발광효율, 감성화질 등의 향상에 노력을 경주하고 있다. 본 소고에서는 이러한 PDP의 고화질 기술동향에 대해 알아보겠다.

  • We developed an 4.5" $192{\times}64$ active matrix organic light-emitting diode display on a glass using organic thin-film transistor (OTFT) switching-arrays with two transistors and a capacitor in each sub-pixel. The OTFTs has bottom contact structure with a unique gate insulator and pentacene for the active layer. The width and length of the switching OTFT is $800{\mu}m$ and $10{\mu}m$ respectively and the driving OTFT has $1200{\mu}m$ channel width with the same channel length. On/off ratio, mobility, on-current of switching OTFT and on-current of driving OTFT were $10^6,0.3{\sim}0.5\;cm^2/V{\cdot}sec$, order of 10 ${\mu}A$ and over 100 ${\mu}A$, respectively. AMOLEDs composed of the OTFT switching arrays and OLEDs made using vacuum deposition method were fabricated and driven to make moving images, successfully.

텔레로봇 작업의 특성이 시각표시장치의 유형 결정에 미치는 영향 연구 (Effects of Tele-Robotic Task Characteristics on the Choice of Visual Display Dimensionality)

  • The effects of task characteristics on the relative efficiency of visual display dimension were studied using a simulated tele-robotic task. Through a conventional method of task analysis. the tele-robotic task was divided into two categories: the task element requiring focused attention (FA task) and the task element requiring global attention (CA task). Time-ta-completion data were collected for a total of 120 trials involving 10 participants. For the CA task. there was no significant difference between the multiple two-dimensional (20) display and the three-dimensional (3D) monocular display. For the FA task. however. the multiple 20 display was superior to the 3D monocular display. The results suggest that the characteristics of a given task have a considerable effect on the choice of display dimensionality and the multiple 3D display is better for human operators to effectively judge depth if the task requires frequent use of focused attention.

Simulation Study of an e-Beam Addressed Liquid Crystal Display for Projection

  • We have carried out a simulation study on an e-beam addressed liquid crystal projection display in which the liquid crystal is switched by the electric field of the charge, produced by an electron beam, on the surface of the display. We calculated the electric field produced by the surface charge, the liquid crystal director configuration and the profile of the transmitted light. We studied the factors affecting the resolution of the display and the effect of pretilt angle on the performance of the display. The e-beam addressed liquid crystal projection display potentially has the advantages of high resolution and high brightness.

  • The purposes of this study were to investigate emotional display rules and intentions of preschool children, any gender differences and the emotional intentions according to levels of understanding of emotional display rules and positive vs. negative situations. The subjects were 58 six-year-old preschoolers who were individually interviewed using 7 hypothetical scenarios that assessed emotional display rules and intentions. The children showed more self-protective intention than other intentions, although there were no gender differences in using emotional display intentions. Children with high scores of emotional display rules frequently tended to use prosocial and self-protective intentions and also used different emotional intentions on positive vs. negative emotional situations.

  • We propose a new method evaluating the image quality of display devices using the CIECAM02 that is the recently developed CIE color appearance model and provides an extension of the previously recommended CIE color spaces. We develop the evaluation method that quantifies the color reproduction capability, emotional gray scale (gradation), and visual perception contrast (perceptual contrast range) based on the gamut in this model.

  • We investigated influence of gas pressure and mixing ratio on the electro-optical properties of External Electrode Fluorescent Lamp (EEFL). The experimental results indicated that luminance and efficiency became the maximum at lower gas pressure and Ar mixing ratio.

  • Traditional LTPS TFT needs additional LDD process to decrease leakage current. However the fabrication process is no suitable for PI substrate. Additional laser multi-irradiation will damage the poly-Si to cause the TFT electrical degrade. Therefore we propose the simplified process to activate the $N^+$ and $N^-$ at the same time.

  • The efficiency stabilization and the color coordinates in blue organic light-emitting devices (OLEDs) with a double emitting layer (DEL) consisting of 4,4'-Bis(carbazol-9-yl)biphenyl (CBP) and 4,4'-Bis(2,2-diphenyl-ethen-1-yl)diphenyl were investigated. The efficiency of the OLEDs with a DEL did not significantly change with an increase in current density. The Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage coordinates of the OLEDs with a DEL 11 V were (0.150, 0.137), indicative of a deep blue color.
