  • In the present work, we demonstrate the feasibility to form large inner diameter $TiO_2$ nanotubes by anodization of Ti in a HF/ethylene glycol electrolyte. In order to achieve the large inner diameter $TiO_2$ nanotubes, optimization of the anodization condition is required. We discover the key factors in the formation of large inner diameter $TiO_2$ nanotubes are concentration of water in the electrolyte, anodization temperatures, and high-applied potential. Under optimum conditions, the inner diameters of $TiO_2$ nanotubes are 379 nm. The results are approximately 3 folders larger than the general case.

  • The spray models incorporated into the GTT code were tested for free spray, spray in swirling flows and the sprays impinging on a flat wall. And the validity of the models has been confirmed by comparing the calculated results with the experimental data. Using this code, the spray behavior in the diesel combustion chamber have been numerically analyzed for variation of nozzle diameter. Also, the effects of nozzle diameter in diesel combustion was investigated experimentally by measuring the performance in a D.I engine. This study provides the information for the spray characteristics and emissions with variation of nozzle diameter. As a result, it has shown that decreasing nozzle diameter resulted in improving smoke and specific fuel consumption in a middle speed range.

  • This study is about comparison of tangental entry type cyclone dust collector with axial vane type cyclone dust collector. Cut diameter and dust collection efficiency of both collector was compared by theory and experiment. Cut diameter was calculated by an quasi-empirical formula by Lapple and Shepherd. Measurement of cut diameter was conducted by particle counter through dust generator. As the result, cut diameter obtained by experiment was a little larger than that by theory. But the error is within $0.5{\mu}m$ in both type of collector, so it could be confirmed that theoretical value and experimental value were almost identical. And, as flow rate increased, dust collection efficiency was increased. Also axial vane type showed higher dust collection efficiency than tangental entry type. Therefore, it can be said that axial vane type cyclone dust collector has higher performance than the other.

  • The present study investigated the effect of diameter and length on the absorption performance of a vertical falling film type absorber using $LiBr-H_2$O solution of 60 wt%. The parameters were diameter of absorber (17.2, 23.4, 31.1 mm), length of absorber (771, 1150, 1528 mm), and film Reynolds numbers (50, 70, 90, 110, 130, 150). As the diameter of the absorber was increased, the absorption mass flux, Sherwood number, heat flux, and heat transfer coefficient were increased, in which Sherwood number and heat transfer coefficient were increased up to 13% and 30% respectively. As the length of the absorber was increased, the total absorption rate and heat transfer coefficient were increased by 37% and 35% respectively, while the absorption mass flux was decreased.

  • One-dimensional (1D) silver nanostructures, which possess the highest conductivity among all room-temperature materials, moderate flexibility and high transmittance, are one of the most promising candidate materials to replace conventional indium tin oxide transparent electrodes. However, the short length and large diameter of 1D silver nanostructures cause a substantial decrease in the optical transparency or an increase in the sheet resistance. In this work, ultra-long silver nanofiber networks were synthesized with a low-cost and scalable electrospinning process, and the diameter of the nanofibers were finetuned to achieve a higher aspect ratio. The decrease in the diameter of the nanofibers resulted in a higher optical transparency at a lower sheet resistance: 87 % at $300{\Omega}/sq$, respectively. It is expected that an electrospun silver nanofiber based transparent electrode can be used as a key component in various optoelectronic applications.

  • An investigation was carried out for the annual ring width, longitudinal tracheid diameter and wall thickness in different tree heights for Pinus koraiensis Sieb. et. Zucc. The annual ring width increased along with the tree height, however the tracheid diameter and wall thickness decreased with the tree height. Tracheid wall thickness was found the thickest at 2.0m from the above ground samples and it increased gradually from pith to bark. Radial tracheid diameter was found to be larger than that of tangential tracheid diameter in earlywood. But, it was found to be the opposite in latewood. In earlywood, the average values of tracheid wall thickness was found the range of $2.1-3.0{\mu}m$, whereas, in latewood, it was $2.4-4.2{\mu}m$.

  • To investigate the effect of an inner diameter of the extension tube on the self-ignition when high pressurized hydrogen abruptly released through a tube, both experimental and numerical approach are used. The result show that there is a possibility to have successful ignition when the tube diameter is decreased even at the pressure that could not give sustainable flame with a larger diameter tube. Numerical simulation show the flame development inside the tube and weak and stretch flame spout the tube for 10.9 mm tube, whereas strong complete flame has been generated for 3 mm tube.

  • An image analysis processing method for the measurement of nanofiber diameter was developed. For the analysis, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images of electrospun fiber were prepared and applied to the individual measurement of the fiber diameter by using the developed and the traditional manual methods. Both methods provided a similar fiber distribution. The fiber average diameters were similar but the variance of the new method was larger than that of the manual method. The average diameters from the two methods exhibited a linear relationship with a high coefficient. The developed method can be used as a practical tool to estimate the fiber diameter of the electro spun web.

  • Pipe design normally requires pump power, discharge or pipe diameter for each condition given. Due to several investigators the pipe friction factor con now be estimated by explicit way for a wide range of flow condition. In various problems of pipe design, however, the flow condition cannot be pre-determined even for a uniformly rough pipe. In these cases a lot of iterations are often required to have an accurate solution with ordinary approach. This paper presents the direct computation method of discharge and pipe diameter without any iteration process. Introducing the power law of friction factor, various non-dimensional physical numbers are derived such as power-diameter number, power-discharge number, diameter-slope number and discharge-slope number. One of the physical numbers concerned with discharge or pipe diameter can be related to a combination of the other in an explicit way.
