Purpose: We evaluated the prognostic factors and clinical outcomes of 56 patients with vulvar cancer treated with curative radiotherapy (RT) or concurrent chemoradiotherapy. Materials and Methods: Overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival (DFS) were assessed retrospectively. Prognostic factors evaluated included age, International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) stage, TNM classification, tumor size, treatment modality, RT duration, and RT field. The association between the tumor human papillomavirus (HPV) status and survival was analyzed in 35 patients. Results: During the median follow-up of 2.8 years (range, 0.3 to 18.9 years), 21 patients (37.5%) experienced treatment failure. Fifteen patients (27%) had local failure: nine (16%) local failure only, three (5%) locoregional failure, two (4%) local and distant failure, and one (2%) locoregional and distant failure. Of 56 patients, seven (13%) had persistent disease at the first follow-up at 2 months and all but one died within a year after completing RT. The 5-year OS and DFS were 51.6% and 44.0%, respectively. In multivariate analysis, clinical size ${\geq}3$ cm predicted a poor prognostic factor for DFS (p = 0.040) and age (${\geq}70years$) was poor prognostic for DFS (p = 0.032) and OS (p = 0.048). Patients with HPV-positive tumors tended to have better 5-year OS and DFS, but the differences were not significant statistically. Conclusion: Clinical size ${\geq}3$ cm was a significant prognostic factor for DFS. However, age was the most important prognostic factor for DFS and OS in patients treated with curative RT. Further studies are needed to determine which treatment should be considered for old age ${\geq}70years$.

This study has been carried out in order to effectively manage three groups of unregulated hazardous organic substances (PCDD/DFs, PAHs, PCBs) in South Korea. The investigated substances have been analyzed according to the test methods for hazardous substances in specified wastes provided by the National Institute of Environmental Research, Korea. Total contents of the organic compounds have been determined for hazardous wastes from three major industrial categories (paint, iron removal, steelmaking), such as waste organic solvent, waste paint or dust. By investigating the waste samples for 7 PAHs using GC/MSD, Naphthalene has been detected (N.D~1631.33 mg/kg). The highest Naphthalene concentration, which exceeded the korean marine dumping waste standard, was found in waste organic solvents and waste paints. Although a content analysis of 7 PCB isomers has been conducted, none of these compounds was detected. The analysis of PCDD/DFs has revealed that all samples meet the criterion for low POP content defined in the technical guidelines developed under the Basel Convention. The PCDD/DFs content in dust samples deriving from 10 manufacturing processes (billet, bloom) was determined to be in the range of N.D~5.66 ng I-TEQ/g waste.

Background: To evaluate the impact of adding taxanes to anthracycline-based regimens in the adjuvant setting in localized young female breast cancer patients on the overall survival (OS) and the disease free survival (DFS). Materials and Methods: This retrospective study included all female breast cancer patients who were candidates for adjuvant chemotherapy presenting to Kasr Al Ainy centre of clinical oncology and Cairo oncology centre (Cairo Cure) in the period from January 2005 till December 2010. Results: Our study included 865 patients, 732 of whom received anthracycline based regimens and 133 taxane based regimens. The mean age of patients was 39 years. After a median follow up of 50 months the median DFS was 48.4 months. Survival analysis indicated that the tumor size (>5cm vs. <5cm) p=0.001), nodal involvement (Yes vs. No) p=0.0001) and pathology (invasive lobular vs. ductal) p=0.048) affected DFS. As regards hormonal status, ER, PR and HER 2neu positive patients had longer DFS (p=0.001, 0.003, 0.106). On multivariate analysis DFS was affected by tumor size and lymph node involvement (p=0.014, 0.007). Subgroup analysis showed improvement in arms treated with taxanes in terms of DFS with positive Her2neu, ER and PR, but this was not statistically significant. Conclusions: Adding adjuvant taxanes to anthracyclines is beneficial for treatment of localized breast cancer among all subgroups, especially higher risk groups. The type of adjuvant chemotherapy regimens and tumor characteristics have direct effects on DFS.

Background: Axillary lymph node status at diagnosis remains the strongest predictor of long-term survival in breast cancer. Patients with more than ten axillary lymph nodes at diagnosis have a poor long-term survival. In this single institutional study, we set out to evaluate the prognosis of this high-risk group in the era of multimodality therapy. Materials and Methods: In this retrospective study, we looked at all breast cancer patients with greater than ten axillary lymph nodes diagnosed at Mount Sinai Medical Center (MSMC) from January 1st 1990 to December 31st 2007 (n=161). In the univariate analysis, descriptive frequencies, median survival, and 5- and 10-year survival rates were estimated for common prognostic factors. A multivariate prognostic analysis for time-to-event data, using the extended Cox regression model was carried out. Results: With a median and mean follow-up of 70 and 89.9 months, respectively, the overall median survival was estimated to be 99 months. The five-year disease-free survival (DFS) was 59.3% and the ten-year DFS was 37.9%, whereas the five- and ten-year overall survival (OS) was 66.6% and 43.9%, respectively. Multivariate analysis revealed a significant improvement in DFS among black patients compared to whites (p=0.05), improved DFS and OS among young patients (ages 21-45) compared to elderly patients (age greater than 70) (p=0.00176, p=0.0034, respectively), and improved DFS and OS among patients whose tumors were ER positive (p=0.049, p=0.0034). Conclusions: In this single institution study of patients with greater than 10 positive axillary nodes, black patients had a significantly improved DFS compared with white patients. Young age and ER tumor positivity was associated with improved outcomes. Using multivariate analysis, there were no other variables associated with statistically significant improvements in DFS or OS including date of diagnosis. Further work is needed to improve breast cancer survival in this subgroup of patients.
Physical properties and compositions of dietary fiber sources (DFS) from peels of Asian pear fruit, Hosui, Niitaka and Chuwhangbae, were examined at different growth stages, young, unripe, and ripe fruits, to investigate their use as functional ingredients. Total dietary fiber (TDF) contents of DFS prepared from peels of three cultivars at three stages were high, 74.00-88.38%, with most being insoluble dietary fiber. Total phenolic compound contents of DFS were 1.64-4.46mg/g, with those of Niitaka and Chuwhangbae increasing with growth stages. Density of DFS from young fruit was significantly lower than those from unripe and ripe fruits (p<0.05), because particle size of DFS increased with growth stages within cultivars. Water-holding capacity (WHC) and oil absorption were 3.11-6.03g water/g solid and 1.98-2.57g oil/g sample, respectively. Young fruits, which showed lowest WHC value, had highest oil absorption value. Particle size of DFS had significant correlation with density, WHC, and oil absorption (p<0.05). Physical properties of DFS were mainly influenced by cellulose and uronic acid.
This study was carried out to investigate the survival rates of late mouse molulae frozen in the state of vitrification and then thawed after equilibrating them separately in EFS 40, GFS 40 and DFS 40 at 1$0^{\circ}C$. The results obtained are as follows : 1. Freezing in the state of vitrification and thawing late mouse molulae after equilibrating them at l0$0^{\circ}C$ in EFS 40 for 30 seconds, one minute and two minutes, we obtained survival rates of 76.7%, 96.7% and 100%, respectively. 2. Freezing and thawing them after equilibrating at 1$0^{\circ}C$ in GFS 40 for 30 seconds, one minute and two minutes, we obtained survival rates of 60%, 96.7% and 10%, respectively. These results are as similar as in the case of EFS 40. 3. Freezing and thawing them after equilibrating at l$0^{\circ}C$ in DFS 40 for 30 seconds and one minute, we obtained survival rates of 62.1% and 0%, respectively. These results represent lower survival rates than those obtained with EFS 40 and GFS 40. In conclusion, even equilibrating late mouse molulae in EFS 40 and GFS 40 at 1$0^{\circ}C$ for more than one minute gives a survival rate of more than 97%, while equilibrating them in DFS 40 at 1$0^{\circ}C$ for more than one minute results in a 0% survival rate, which means that DFS 40 has a strong toxicity.

This paper presents a mixed-mode CMOS duty-cycle corrector (DCC) circuit that has a dynamic frequency scaling (DFS) counter and coarse and fine tuning adjustments. A higher duty-cycle correction accuracy and smaller jitter have been achieved by utilizing the DFS counter that reduces the bit-switching glitch effect of a digital to analog converter (DAC). The proposed circuit has been designed using a 0.18-${\mu}m$ CMOS process. The measured duty cycle error is less than ${\pm}1.1%$ for a wide input duty-cycle range of 25-75% over a wide freqeuncy range of 0.5-1.5 GHz.
SPIHT algorithm is a wavelet based fast and effective technique for image compression. It uses a list structure to store status information which is generated during set-partitioning of zero-tree. Usually, this requires lots of additional memory depending on how high the bit-rate is. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a new technique called MZP-DFS, which needs no additional memory when running SPIHT algorithm. It traverses a spatial-tree according to DFS and eliminates additional memory as it uses test-functions for encoding and LSB bits of coefficients for decoding respectively. This method yields nearly the same performance as SPIHT. This may be desirable in hardware implementation because no additional memory is required. Moreover. it exploits parallelism to process each spatial-tree that it can be applied well in real-time image compression.

Speeding is one of the major causes of traffic accidnets in urban areas. Driver feedback sign(DFS) is a traffic control device that can be used for many traffic environments including work zones, school zones, and roadways. In this paper, the effectiveness of DFS was evaluated through a field study using speed data collected from before and after study periods. In addition traffic safety improvement was also quantitatively estimated using the variance of speed data collected. Staistical test results showed that the speed difference was statistically significant, and the distribution of speed data was also shifted greatly. Therefore, it was concluded that installing the DFS in roadways might lead to unifomity of speed of traffic flow, thus, potential safety improvement might be expected.
Background: Although studies on dental fear in relation to sex and age have been conducted, there have been few nationwide studies particularly on the youth sector. In addition, no validity and reliability verifications have been implemented for new research groups on the Korean version of the Dental Fear Survey (K-DFS). Therefore, this study aimed to apply the K-DFS developed in a previous study on Korean youth to draw conclusions on dental fear among the youth. Methods: This study used the K-DFS, a Korean translation of Kleinknecht's Dental Fear Survey for elementary school, middle school, and high school students. This study selected 2,161 young people of various ages as participants and increased the validity of the research results by expanding nationwide the scope of the study area. Results: Differences in fear levels according to sex were higher in boys fear behavior scores than in girls' regarding dental treatment (P < 0.05). Students with dental fear had higher scores on items associated with dental treatment and fear of dental stimuli compared with students without dental fear (P < 0.05). Differences were observed among the three groups (P < 0.05). However, the results of logistic regression analysis showed no statistically significant differences for dental visits based on sex, grade, and other subcomponents (P > 0.05). Conclusion: By verifying the validity of the newly developed K-DFS, this research confirmed its utility as a dental fear questionnaire. Therefore, there can be no objection that the grounds for criticism have been established according to conventional wisdom. In the future, however, developing and studying the limits of K-DFS that overcome the factors of dental fear, especially pain, will help reduce dental fear in adolescents.
