The bankruptcy possibility of apartment construction firms has been incresed because of the environment of current apartment construction industry. This paper analyzes the efficiency of apartment construction firms using DEA model. We evaluate the CCR, BCC efficiency and RTS of 25 apartment construction firms. We also suggest the apartment construction firms which can be benchmarked based on analyzed information. The result shows that four enterprises whose values of CCR efficiency are 1, and ten enterprises whose values of BCC efficiency are 1. RTS indicates IRS of 21 firms and CRS of 4 firms.

All of the city gas companies in Korea must employ the gas safety patrols by law. The gas safety patrols are responsible for the various tasks including daily gas pipeline patrol to prevent gas accidents. Since the size of jurisdiction varies among the city gas companies, it is very difficult to compare their efficiency for the operations of the safety patrol each other directly. The objective of this research is to develop the methodology to analyze and compare the efficiency of the safety patrol's operations among various city gas companies. Several factors that are related to the safety patrol's duty on the gas safety factors were identified and DEA(Data Envelopment Analysis) model for efficiency analysis was developed. Finally, the DEA model was applied to the collected data from six city gas companies. The less efficient city gas companies can benchmark the higher efficient city gas companies in order to improve the safety control systems.

Estimating fishing capacity is one of current hot issues in the international fisheries. It is because that increased fishing capacity has caused not only fish stocks to be reduced, but also additional fishing costs to be incurred without additional incomes, which resulted in decrease of economically viability of fisheries. In order to solve this problem, FAO adopted 'the International Plan of Action for the Management of Fishing Capacity' in 1999 and recommended that member countries to measure fishing capacity and to implement the domestic action plan to reduce excess fishing capacity. This study is aimed at assessing fishing capacity of the octopus coastal trap fishery(OCTF) using data envelopment analysis(DEA) which is a method recommended by FAO. The DEA results on 10 individual OCTF vessels showed that the capacity utilization(CU) was a 0.93 on average, indicating some differences in CU among vessels(0.79-1.0). In addition, results of the sensitivity analysis revealed that under the current level of catch, the gross tonnage, horse power, days fished, and traps per trip could be reduced by 35%, 33%, 16%, and 18% on average, respectively.

In the present emerging global economy, as the focus is shifted from manufacturing to service sector, the efficiency of service operations is crucial for the county's sustainable growth and development. As one of the fastest growing service sector industries in South Korea, the call center has become an inevitable part of customer service for most companies. Despite of the strategic importance of the call center, there has been no empirical study on the efficiency of call center service operations in the literature. The main purpose of this study is to evaluate the technical efficiency of call center services so as to not only identify the current status of call center service operations, but also suggest ways to improve service operations efficiency. For this purpose, we apply a non-parametric efficiency measurement method, DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis), to domestic call centers in order to compare their relative efficiency. Based on DEA evaluations, we provided specific directions for the inefficient call centers to possibly improve their operation efficiencies. It is expected that the measurement methods suggested in this study can be applied to various issues such as service KS certification, service operations management, and the productivity analysis of service personnel.

모든 조직들은 자신들의 업무관행이나 운영전략 등의 개선을 통한 조직효율성의 재고를 위해 다양한 노력들을 기울이고 있다. 해운항만산업의 첨두에 있는 컨테이너 터미널의 경우도 예외가 아니며, 이러한 목적을 위해 벤치마킹기법이 사용될 수 있다. 벤치마킹 기법은 자신들 내면을 파악한 후 동종업계의 최고업무처리관행(best practices)조직을 참조하여 자신들의 업무 효율성을 향상시키는 방법이다. 국내 컨테이너항만의 후발주자이면서, 물동량의 증가율도 높지 않아 지역민이나 전 국민의 우려대상이 되고 있는 광양항도 다양한 방법을 사용한 발전을 모색해야만 하며, 이러한 방법적용을 위해 대표적으로 사용할 수 있는 것이 자료포괄분석법(data envelopment analysis, DEA)이다. 본 연구는 부산항과 광양항에 있는 중소형 9개 터미널의 1999${\sim}$2004년간의 4년자료를 통해 광양항 컨테이너터미널의 문제점과 그 원인을 살펴보고, 벤치마킹기법을 이용해 이를 개선하기 위한 행동방안을 간략히 제시해본다. 추후에는 최근의 다양한 변수와 국내외의 다양한 대상을 통한 더욱 엄밀한 분석을 수행해야 할 것이다.

This paper aims to implement an empirical research about the efficiency of America and Northeast Asia pots, and to suggest an effective strategy which can operate these ports more well. This study tries to apply the Data Envelopment Analysis(DEA) model to America and Northeast Asia ports. DEA is a methodology of comparing the relative efficiency of each decision making unit(DMU) by comparing it with other DMUs having similar input and output structure, and is specially very useful when a form of production function of each DMU such as a port is not known. DEA provides the extent of inefficiency of DMUs, which is practically useful information (like the efficiency score and reference sets) required to improve efficiency. This paper analyzed the relative efficiency of 35 ports in America and Northeast Asia for 3 years from 2005 to 2007 through DEA-CCR, DEA-BCC model and scale efficiency. Accordingly, this paper evaluates the efficiency of America and Northeast Asia ports, grasps the position at the present time, and suggests an advanced direction in future.

The structure of universities needs to be adjusted and reformed to cope with the decrease in admission resources and the quality of education due to the low birth rate and aging population. Such a policy is receiving much attention. To analyze the relative efficiency of private universities in Korea from the perspective of resource and performance, this study evaluated the efficiency of private university operation by applying a DEA(Data Envelopment Analysis) technique. The DEA measurements were compared with the diagnosis results of the department of education (Government) in 2018. The input and output variables used in the research analysis were utilized by the university's notification materials (public disclosure information). An analysis of the operational efficiency showed that 48% (12 universities) of the 25 DMUs (Decision Making Unit) were efficient for DEA-BCC models and that some of the capacity-building universities were operating efficiently. In addition, the DEA analysis found ways to improve inefficient groups through DEA-Additive results. This paper can be meaningful because it confirmed the relative efficiency of private universities and suggested improvement directions through the DEA method, which is characterized by the simultaneous consideration of various input and output factors. This will help apply the limited resources related to the input and output elements of each university.

Owing to the complexity and modernization of weapon systems, the role of the defense industry in producing military supplies has become increasingly important. In previous defense industries, price competitiveness was a key factor in the product choice. On the other hand, as exports of domestic military supplies are expanding rapidly based on superior quality, there is a need to evaluate objectively the efficiency of management in the domestic defense industry. In this study, the efficiency of management was measured using DEA, which is one of the decision methodologies. In addition, the number of employees (QA Employee) and R&D performance were set as input variables to utilize DEA, and the output variables were based on sales and operating profit. Based on the results of the analysis, a future study will measure the efficiency of the management of domestic defense industry to help guide a strategic development plan.

In this study, we have investigated several input factors and output factors to maintain safety management of domestic shipping companies, and then have analyzed the efficiency of performance about each shipping companies' safety management system from 1998 year to 2004 year using DEA method. The result of analysis shows that the annual mean efficiency index of total companies tended downward every year. Analysis was that the cause was increase of the cost of repairing ship, the cost of ship's stores and idle day of ship while the number of marine accidents and sanctions of PSC, ship's insurances and P&I insurances was decreased.
