The main measurement uncertainty factors in DC high-voltage dividers for a national high-voltage standard are the measurement uncertainty of low-voltage arm and the stability of a high-voltage supply. In this study, the uncertainties by the two factors are greatly improved. As a result the measurement uncertainty for the DC high-voltage divider is reduced from $16{\times}10^{-6}(k=2)$ to $8{\times}10^{-6}(k=2)$ which is at international level.

In space qualified DC-DC converters, optimization of the following electrical characteristics is of greater interest in comparison with other specifications; power loss/efficiency, output voltage ripple and volume/weight. The main goal of this paper is to present an appropriate solution for optimizing the above mentioned characteristics. For this purpose, a comprehensive power loss model of a DC-DC converter is fully developed. Proper models are also demonstrated for assessment of the output voltage ripple and the utilized transformer volume as the bulkiest component in a DC-DC converter. In order to provide a test bed for evaluation of the proposed models, a 50W push-pull DC-DC converter is designed and implemented. Finally, a novel cost function with three assigned weight functions is proposed in order to have a trade-off among the power loss, the output voltage ripple and the utilized transformer volume of the converter. The cost function is optimized for applications in which volume has the highest priority in comparison with power loss and ripple. The optimization results show that the transformer volume can be decreased by up to 51% and this result is verified by experimental results. The developed models and algorithms in this paper can be used for other DC-DC converter topologies with some minor modifications.

A new primary-side-assisted zero-voltage and zero-current switching (ZVZCS) three-level DC-DC converter with flying capacitor is proposed. The three-level converters are promising in high voltage applications, and ZVZCS is a very effective means for reducing switching losses. The proposed DC-DC converter uses only one auxiliary transformer and two diodes to obtain ZCS for the inner leg. It has a simple and robust structure, and offers soft-switching capability even in short-switching conditions. The proposed converter was verified by experiments in a 6KW prototype designed for communication applications and operating at 100kHz.
Electrolytic power capacitors today form essential components for virtually any power electronic system such as DC/DC converter or UPS. Frequently, electrolytic capacitors for DC link voltage smoothing are the key components which determine the life cycle of the whole unit and often are responsible for converter breakdown failures. In this paper, ethernet-based remote diagnosis system for DC voltage smoothing capacitor using DSP control board is developed. To estimate the status of the capacitor, the equivalent series resistor(ESR) of the component has to be determined. The ESR detection scheme is based on the determination of the capacitor ripple power losses calculated from DC link voltage/current measurement. Experimental results show the veridity and reliability of the proposed ethernet-based remote on-line capacitor diagnosis system.
A new primary-side-assisted zero-voltage and zero-current switching full bridge DC-DC converter with transformer isolation is proposed. The auxiliary circuit adopted to assist ZCS for the leading leg is composed of only one small transformer and two diodes. It has a simple and robust structure, and load current control capability even in short circuit conditions. Possibility of magnetic saturation due to asymmetricity of circuits or transient phenomena is greatly reduced, which is a very attractive feature in DC/DC converters with transformer isolation. The power rating of the auxiliary transformer is about 10% of that of the main transformer. Operation of a 12.5KW prototype designed for welding application was verified by experiments.
This paper presents a new high step-up dc/dc converter for renewable energy systems in which a high voltage gain is provided by using a coupled inductor. The operation of the proposed converter is based on a charging capacitor with a single power switch in its structure. A passive clamp circuit composed of capacitors and diodes is employed in the proposed converter for lowering the voltage stress on the power switch as well as increasing the voltage gain of the converter. Since the voltage stress is low in the provided topology, a switch with a small ON-state resistance can be used. As a result, the losses are decreased and the efficiency is increased. The operating principle and steady-states analyses are discussed in detail. To confirm the viability and accurate performance of the proposed high step-up dc-dc converter, several simulation and experimental results obtained through PSCAD/EMTDC software and a built prototype are provided.
In this paper, a single-phase DC-AC inverter using two embedded Z-source converters is proposed. The proposed inverter is composed of two embedded Z-source converters with common DC source and output AC load. The output AC voltage of the inverter is obtained by the difference of output capacitor voltages of each converter. The output voltage of each converter take shape of the asymmetrical AC waveform centering zero voltage. Therefore, the proposed inverter can generate the same output voltage despite low VA rating L-C elements, compared to the conventional inverter using high DC voltage with AC ripple. To verify the validity of the proposed system, the PSIM simulation was achieved under the condition of rapid increase of DC source (110[V]${\rightarrow}$150[V]) and R-load (50[${\Omega}$]${\rightarrow}$300[${\Omega}$]). For controlling the voltage of the inverter system, the one-cycle controller was adopted. As results, the proposed inverter output the constant AC voltage (220[V]rms/60[Hz]) for all conditions. Also, the R-L load and nonlinear diode load were adopted for the proposed inverter loads, and we could know that the its output voltage characteristics were as good as the pure R-load. Finally, the RMS and THD of output AC voltage were examined for the different loads, input DC voltages and reference voltage signals.

Cascaded H-bridge multilevel inverters shows a useful circuit configuration to increase the number of output voltage levels to obtain high quality output voltage. By applying the concept of the power of three to dc voltage sources, it can increase the number of output voltage levels effectively. To realize this concept, two approaches may be considered. One is to use independent dc voltage sources pre-scaled in the power of three, and the other is to use instantaneous dc voltage sources generated from a cascaded transformer, which has the secondary turn-ratios scaled in the power of three in sequence. A common feature in both approaches is to use the concept of the power of three for dc voltage sources, and a point of difference is whether it adopts a low frequency transformer or not, and where the transformer is located. According to the difference, application areas are limited and show different characteristics on THD of output voltages. We compare and analyze both approaches for their circuit configurations, voltage level generating method, THD characteristics of output voltage, efficiency, application areas, limitations, and other characteristics by experiments using 500 [W] prototypes when they generate a 27-level output voltage.

This paper proposes a method to stabilize the output voltage of the secondary side of an Inductive Power Transfer (IPT) system through tuning/detuning via a serial tuned DC Voltage-controlled Variable Capacitor (DVVC). The equivalent capacitance of the DVVC changes with the conduction period of a diode in the DVVC controlled by DC voltage. The output voltage of an IPT system can be made constant when this DVVC is used as a variable resonant capacitor combined with a PI controller generating DC control voltage according to the fluctuations of the output voltage. Since a passive diode instead of an active switch is used in the DVVC, there are no active switch driving problems such as a separate voltage source or gate drivers, which makes the DVVC especially advantageous when used at the secondary side of an IPT system. Moreover, since the equivalent capacitance of the DVVC can be controlled smoothly with a DC voltage and the passive diode generates less EMI than active switches, the DVVC has the potential to be used at much higher frequencies than traditional switch mode capacitors.
In recent years, multilevel technology has become an effective and practical solution in the field of moderate and high voltage applications. This paper discusses an APF with a three-level NPC inverter. Obviously, the application of such converter to APFs is hindered by the problem of the voltage unbalance of DC capacitors, which leads to system instability. This paper comprehensively analyzes the theoretical limitations of the neutral-point voltage balancing problem for tracking different harmonic currents utilizing current switching functions from the space vector PWM (SVPWM) point of view. The fluctuation of the neutral point caused by the load currents of certain order harmonic frequency is reported and quantified. Furthermore, this paper presents a close-loop digital control algorithm of the DC voltage for this APF. A PI controller regulates the DC voltage in the outer-loop controller. In the current-loop controller, this paper proposes a simple neutral-point voltage control method. The neutral-point voltage imbalance is restrained by selecting small vectors that will move the neutral-point voltage in the direction opposite the direction of the unbalance. The experiment results illustrate that the performance of the proposed approach is satisfactory.
