  • In this paper represented uninterruptible power sypply(UPS) equipment maintaining constant output voltage, using a pulse width modulation(PWM) voltage fed inverter, as power source disconnection, voltage variation and output current variation with load variation. This system is driven by being synchronized voltage fed inverter and AC source, and in the steady state of power source charge battery connected to DC side with solar cell using a Photovoltaic (PV) that it was so called constant voltage charge. In addition, better output waveform was generated because of PWM(pulse width Modulation) method, and it was Proved to test by experiment maintained constant output voltage regardless of AC source disconnection, load variation, and voltage variation of AC power source.

  • The four-leg Voltage Source Converter(VSC) can use the DC link voltage effectively by the 3-D SVPWM method. Hence the DC battery voltage can be reduced by $15\%$ in comparison to that of the conventional line-interactive UPS system. In this paper a novel line interactive Uninterruptible Power Supply(UPS) using the two four-leg VSCs is proposed. One VSC is in parallel with the ac link reactor of the power source side, and the other is in series with the load. The parallel four-leg voltage source inverter controls the three-phase line voltage independently in order to control the line reactor current indirectly. It eliminates the neutral line current and the active ripple power of the source side using the pqr theory so that unity power factor and the sinusoidal source current can be achieved even though both the source and the load voltages have zero sequence components. The series four-leg voltage source inverter compensates the line voltage and allows it to be balanced and harmonic-free. Both of the parallel and series four-leg voltage source inverters always act as independently controllable voltage sources, so that the three-phase output voltage shows a seamless transition to the backup mode. The feasibility of the proposed UPS system has been investigated and verified through computer simulations results.

  • Grid connection essentially requires a wind energy conversion system (WECS) to not only supply adequate power responding to constantly varying wind speed but also provide a specified level of voltage magnitude and frequency that is acceptable in the electric power network. To satisfy such requirements, appropriate control schemes of a wind turbine to be connected to the power grid should be employed. This paper presents an output control strategy of a grid-connected wind power generation, which consists of a fixed-pitch wind turbine, a synchronous generator and a AC-DC-AC component with a voltage source inverter built in, and performs modelling and analysis of the strategy using PSCAD/EMTDC, an electromagnetic transient analysis software. Real power output control of the voltage source inverter is implemented to extract the maximum energy from wind speed inputted through wind blades and reactive power control, to keep the terminal voltage of WECS at a specific level. SPWM switching method is used to reduce the harmonics and maintain 60 ㎐ of the output frequency. The wind turbine performance and output corresponding to wind variation and the terminal load change is simulated and analysed.

  • DC-DC converter and DC-AC inverter in a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) generate the switching noise. It may be generated by the reverse recovery operation of the power diode in the switching circuit of the converter or the inverter. The shape of the reverse recovery region may be determined by both reverse time and recovery time in the diode. So, in this paper, the frequency spectrum of switching noise was estimated by the shape of the reverse recovery region and compared with the measured results. It shows that the meaningful region of the frequency spectrum is directly related with the reverse time.

  • Voltage sags are considered the dominant disturbances affecting power quality. Dynamic voltage restorers(DVRs) are mainly used to protect sensitive loads from the electrical network voltage disturbances such as sags or swells and could be used to reduce harmonic distortion of ac voltages. The typical DVR topology essentially contains a PWM inverter with LC Filter, an injection transformer connected between the ac voltage line and the sensitive load, and a DC energy storage device. For injecting series voltage, the PWM inverter is used and the passive filter consist of inductor(L) and capacitor(C) for harmonics elimination of the inverter. However there are voltage pulsation responses by the characteristic of the LC passive filter that eliminate the harmonics of the PWM output waveform of the inverter. Therefore, this paper presented design and feedback performance of LC filter used in the DVRs. The voltage control by LC filter should be connected in the line side since this feedback method allows a relatively faster dynamic response, enabling the elimination of voltage notches or spikes in the beginning and in the end of sags and strong load voltage THD reduction. Illustrative examples are also included.

  • This work aims to study and analyze the various operating modes of universal power converter which is powered by solar and thermoelectric generators. The proposed converter is operated in a DC-DC (buck or boost mode) and DC-AC (single phase) inverter with high efficiency. DC power sources, such as solar photovoltaic (SPV) panels, thermoelectric generators (TEGs), and Li-ion battery, are selected as input to the proposed converter according to the nominal output voltage available/generated by these sources. The mode of selection and output power regulation are achieved via control of the metal-oxide semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET) switches in the converter through the modified stepped perturb and observe (MSPO) algorithm. The MSPO duty cycle control algorithm effectively converts the unregulated DC power from the SPV/TEG into regulated DC for storing energy in a Li-ion battery or directly driving a DC load. In this work, the proposed power sources and converter are mathematically modelled using the Scilab-Xcos Simulink tool. The hardware prototype is designed for 200 W rating with a dsPIC30F4011 digital controller. The various output parameters, such as voltage ripple, current ripple, switching losses, and converter efficiency, are analyzed, and the proposed converter with a control circuit operates the converter closely at 97% efficiency.

  • Z-source inverters (ZSI) are used to realize both DC voltage boost and DC-AC inversion in single stage with a reduced number of power switching devices. A traditional MPPT control algorithm provides a shoot-through interval which should be inserted in the switching waveforms of the inverter to output the maximum power to the Z-network. At this instant, the voltage across the Z-source capacitor is equal to the output voltage of a PV array at the maximum power point (MPP). The control of the Z-source capacitor voltage beyond the MPP voltage of a PV array is not facilitated in traditional MPPT algorithms. This paper presents a unified MPPT control algorithm to simultaneously achieve MPPT as well as Z-source capacitor voltage control. Development and implementation of the proposed algorithm and a comparison with traditional results are discussed. The effectiveness of the proposed unified MPPT control strategy is implemented in Matlab/Simulink software and verified by experimental results.

  • Multilevel inverters (MLIs) have been preferred over conventional two-level inverters due to their inherent properties such as reduced harmonic distortion, lower electromagnetic interference, minimal common mode voltage, ability to synthesize medium/high voltage from low voltage sources, etc. On the other hand, they suffer from an increased number of switching devices, complex gate pulse generation, etc. This paper develops an ingenious symmetrical MLI topology, which consumes lesser component count. The proposed level dependent sources concoction multilevel inverter (LDSCMLI) is basically a multilevel dc link MLI (MLDCMLI), which first synthesizes a stepped dc link voltage using a sources concoction module and then realizes the ac waveform through a conventional H-bridge. Seven level and eleven level versions of the proposed topology are simulated in MATLAB r2010b and prototypes are constructed to validate the performance. The proposed topology requires lesser components compared to recent component reduced MLI topologies and the classical topologies. In addition, it requires fewer carrier signals and gate driver circuits.
