A Bidirectional Three-phase Push-pull Zero-Voltage Switching DC-DC Converter (양방향 3상 푸쉬풀 ZVS DC-DC 컨버터)

  • This paper proposes an isolated bidirectional three-phase push-pull dc-dc converter for high power application such as eco-friendly vehicles, renewable energy systems, energy storage systems, and solid-state transformers. The proposed converter achieves ZVS turn-on of all switches and volume of passive components is small by an effect of three-phase interleaving. The proposed converter has identical switching pattern for both boost and buck mode, and therefore can provide seamless characteristic at the mode transition. A 3kW prototype of the proposed converter has been built and tested to verify the validity of the proposed operation.

  • Recently, DC distribution systems have become a hot issue because of the increase in digital loads and DC generation systems according to the expansion of renewable energy technologies. To obtain the practical usage of DC electricity, safety should be guaranteed. The main concerns for safety are twofold: one side is human protection against electric shocks, and the other is facility protection from short faults. "Effects of current on human beings and livestock" (IEC 60479) defines a human body impedance model in electric shock conditions that consists of resistive components and capacitive components. Although the human body impedance model properly works in AC electricity, it does not well match with the electric shock behavior in DC electricity. In this study, the contradiction of the human body impedance model defined by IEC 60479 in case of DC electricity is shown through experiments for the human body. From the analysis of experimental results, a novel unified human body impedance model in electric shock conditions is proposed. This model consists of resistive components, capacitive components, and an inductance component. The proposed human impedance model matches well for AC and DC electricity environments in simulation and experiment.

High Efficiency Half-bridge DC-DC Converter for an LED Backlight Drive System of LCD Module Inspection Equipment (LCD 모듈 검사장비용 LED 백라이트 드라이브 시스템을 위한 고효율 반브리지 직류-직류 전력변환기)

  • This paper presents a high efficiency half-bridge DC-DC converter for an LED backlight drive system of LCD module inspection equipment. The proposed converter improves the converter efficiency using characteristics of the asymmetrical half-bridge converter and the self-driven synchronous rectifier, and thus improves the total efficiency of the LED backlight drive system. The synchronous rectifier applied to the proposed converter is the new topological synchronous rectifier, which changes slightly the transformer structure and the synchronous switch connection in the asymmetrical half-bridge converter with a conventional self-driven synchronous rectifier. Since the proposed converter utilizes the transformer leakage inductor as its resonant inductor, its structure is simplified. The proposed converter well operates under the universal DC input voltage ($250{\sim}380V$). The operational principle and a design example for a 100W prototype are discussed in detail, respectively. Experimental results are shown for the designed prototype converter under universal DC input voltage.

  • 본 논문은 신 발전 방식들 중 하나인 용융탄산염형 연료전지 발전시스템의 국산화연구와 관련하여, 연료전지로부터 생성된 전력을 전력계통에 안정되게 변환, 주입하기 위한 계통연계형 전력변환기를 제작하고 단위기기별 성능 시험을 수행한 결과이다. 250kW급 전력변환기의 구조 설계와 단위기기 설계는 250kW급 용융탄산염형 연료전지 시스템의 정격 사양 및 스택의 운전 형태를 시뮬레이션 하여 진행되었으며, 크게 DC/DC 컨버터부와 DC/AC 인버터부의 회로로 구성된다.

  • This paper presents the design of 1 kW prototype high frequency link boost half bridge inverter-fed DC-DC power converters with bridge voltage-doublers suitable for small scale PEM fuel cell systems and associated control schemes. The operation principle of this converter is described using fuel cell modeling and some operating waveforms. The switching mode equivalent circuits are based on simulation results and a detailed circuit operation analysis at soft-switching conditions.

  • As the Three-level ZVS PWM DC-DC converter operates likewise full-bridge ZVS PWM DC-DC converter and the blocking voltage of each switching device is a half of the DC-link voltage, it is suitable for the high imput voltage applications. However, it has some problems as follows; The blocking voltage of each devices is unbalanced and it causes the power losses of the inner switching devices to be increased. Also, it has narrow load range so that the switching losses and the efficiency are reduced as it goes to the light load. This paper presents an nove Three-level ZVS PWM DC-DC converter, which can reduce the overvoltage of the outer switches, eliminate the unbalance of the voltage sharing between the switches at turn-off due to the stray inductances, and operate from no load to full load. The characteristics and the performances of the proposed Three-level ZVS PWM DC-DC converter are verified by simulation and experimental results

  • In this paper a statcom is developed to improve the power quality in a dc traction system. The proposed statcom can be used as both inverter and active filter. As an active filter, it can compensate harmonic distortion and reactive power and as an inverter, it can recycle regenerative energy caused by decelerating trains. The simulation results are carried out by using PSCAD/EMTDC software.

  • A novel type of the sinusoidal dc-to-ac converter is presented, where a pair of switches is placed in each side of the primary and the secondary of the isolation transformer. This converter is controlled by the phase difference between the two pairs of switches. As a result, the transformer is miniaturized by making the switching frequency high and the reactive energy can be easily recovered to the dc-source. This converter is especially suitable for small UPS systems.

  • DC servo motors are widely used in many industrial fields as actuator of robot and driving power motors of electrical vehicle. Usually in the speed control systems, of motors, speed sensors are required and this fact results in the increased price and operating cost and the limited application of the motors. In this paper, a new speed control method for DC servo motor is proposed. In the scheme, the rotational speed is estimated by the measurement values of the armature voltage and current, instead of measurement by sensor. Optimal control theory is applied to design of the controller in construction of real system. This paper also report on the results of experiments to prove the validity of the proposed method.

  • The demand for a DC power distributed system is increasing as renewable energy sources and DC electrical load are proliferating. For the automation of a power system, a magnetic contactor for the DC power system is required. The conventional magnetic contactors are mostly equipped with a solenoid magnetic actuator. However, the conventional magnetic contactor has problems with continuous power consumption, and heat generation. To address these problems, a permanent magnet type DC magnetic contactor is proposed in this paper.
