  • This study identifies the comparison of Technical specification and Characteristics of DC Protection Relay(ETCPU200) used in DC Distribution System in Korea. ETCPU200 has completed Field Test and approved its capability by finding out causes of recent operations through lately developed digital DC protection relay in parallel operation at Maebong-Substation, Nakseongdae-Substation, Euljirosaga-Substation, Jegi-Substation and Chongryangri T/P area. It also examines additional features for efficient System Analysis and Operations.

  • DC traction power system is operated ungrounded so that minimize the stray current. Because the stray current is still present, a rail potential is increased. The ground faults in the DC railway systems are usually detected by a potential relay(64P). Moreover, if the rail potential goes high in the ordinary operating state because of the traction load, the potential relay would be maloperated. A presented protective relaying algorithm that can identify exactly the faulted region and can distinguish a ground fault from the potential rising of the rail is presented in this paper. This paper presents simulation technique that is very similar to the real operation situation using PSCAD/EMTDC.

HBM ESD Tester for On-wafer Test using Flyback Method (Flyback 방식을 이용한 on-wafer용 HBM ESD 테스터 구현)

  • We made ESD tester to measure ESD threshold voltage of semiconductor devices. The HBM ESD test is the most popular method to measure the ESD threshold voltage of MMSIC. We use flyback method which is one of the DC-DC converter to get high ESD voltage. With flvback method, we can isolate the 1ow voltage part from the high voltage part of HBM ESD tester. We use an air gap of the relay which is used for switch to satisfy the rise time of ESD standard(MIL-STD). As a result, with the flyback method and the air gap of relay, we can make ESD tester whose parasitic components are minimized.

Towards reducing acoustical high-frequency noise of a direct current relay via contact structure (직류 계전기의 접촉구조에 의한 고주파수 소음저감)

  • In this work, a straightforward component design of a direct current (DC) relay equipped in electric vehicles is discussed. The work aims to provide and evaluate effective measures for reducing high-frequency sound from the DC relay carrying electric power. From the operation experiments for the relay, it is observed that noise is caused by the resonance from the forced vibration by the electromagnetic repulsive force originating at the area of electric contacts with a resonance frequency of around 710 Hz ~ 730 Hz. A finite element model for the relay was established to conduct vibration mode analysis, consisting of stationary and movable contacts and a contact spring. Vibration mode analysis indicates that in the resonance frequency, the movable contact with two-point contacts experiences rotational vibration mode. For the proposed relay with a three-point contact, vibration mode analyses give reasonable results of reducing noise at that frequency. Furthermore, for the fabricated relays with the three-point contact, similar results have been obtained. In conclusion, one can see that the proposed measures provide one of the feasible solutions to the reduction of relay noise.

  • The studies to improve the power of Solar Cell using ERE (Electron Relay Enhancer) system with Variable parallel-feeder (DC1) and variable series-feeder (DC2) were carried out. For DC1 voltage was higher than that of Solar Cell, this was raised because that functioned as a load, whereas a current was lowed. At that moment, the power of the Solar Cell was increased because the DC2 replenished the lower current. Not only increased the DC ERE series-parallel system the voltage of Solar Cell to 2.0~3.0 V, but they also increased the rate of power increase to about 10%.

  • This paper presents the design of DC protection system of Light Rail Transit system. Especially, the composition and interface for DC Switchgear. Digital protection unit and sort of protection algorithm are focused. DC Switchgear (DCSWGR) for LRT testline consist of 5 different panels with peculiar characteristics are examined. Also Basic actuation principle for DC fault select relay (50F), Line Test Device (LTD), DC Overcurrent(OCR) relay are introduced.

  • In DC power distribution system for urban rail transits potential relay, 64P, is used to detect the ground faults. The problem with this 64P is that though it detects the ground fault it cannot identify the faulted region. Therefore the faulted region cannot be isolated properly. It could results in power loss of the trains on the healthy regions and the safety of the passengers in the trains could be affected adversely. A new ground fault protective relaying scheme that can identify the faulted region is presented in this paper. The new concept uses the current differential scheme and the permissive scheme to identify the faulted region correctly. A device with similar characteristic to the arrestor is adapted to use the current relay for the ground fault detection. The role of the device is to block the ground leakage current in normal operating condition and enable the ground fault current to flow in ground fault condition. The algorithm of the new relay and the effect of the newly adapted device in the new relaying scheme are discussed.

  • There are several protective relays used to protect DC traction power supply system for DC railway. These relays, however, are made by different manufactures and they have different ways for their operations. Therefore, there are difficulties for cooperation between the devices or the devices and an upper system. In order to increase interoperability and stability of the system composed of devices made by different manufactures, IEC 61850 international standards are applied to design logical nodes for modeling protective elements used in protective relays.

  • In recent years, a lot of research was done for earth fault protection in ungrounded dc power supply system. As a result, selective-breaking integrated protective relaying system is developed in progress and is currently field-testing are planned. Algorithm on a PC using PSCAD done a lot of testing before performing field tests, but in this study developed algorithms and functions needed to determine whether they were operating normally. Therefore, simulated system is similar to the actual situation was required and made. selective-breaking algorithm verification and validation was performed with simulator.
