  • The series type DC motor is normally nonlinearly modeled, but in this paper, the nonlinear model is linearized for the speed control. The proposed algorithm is constructed by the fuzzy logic controllers. Then the system is investigated for the effects of changes by the scale factor, and fuzziness of fuzzy variables.

  • DC-servomotor acts an important role in robots and manipulatirs. But the precise control of DC-motor is difficult by a using usual linear controller because of the nonlinear characteristics of DC-motor. This study suggests the use of fuzzy controller in the control of DC-servomotor speed. The fuzzy controller is designed from a fuzzy model which can represent nonlinear systems very well. Hence the fuzzy controller is very useful in the control of nonlinear systems such as DC-motor. We construct a fuzzy model of DC-servomotor, design a fuzzy controller from the fuzzy model, and compare that with a linear controller. When we use the fuzzy controller, the static ripples are reduced and the rise time is required 20% less than in using a linear controller.

  • This paper presents the effective and reliable speed control of PMDC motors under variable loads and reference speeds. As is known DC motors are more preferred in industrial practices. This is that, the PMDC motors don’t require brush and commutator care and to increase in torque per motor depending on developments in power electronics. In this study, proportional-integral controller (PI) and fuzzy logic controller (FL) have been designed for speed control of PMDC motor. In the design of these controllers, characteristics such as minimum overrun time, response time to the load, settling time and ideal rise time have been taken into consideration for better stability performance. In this design, the best system response was searched by examining the effect of different defuzzification methods onto the fuzzy logic system response. In conclusion, it has been seen that FL controller has a better performance for variable speed-load control of PMDC motor compared to PI controller.

  • This paper presents a speed controller method based on the disturbance torque observer for high-performance speed control of the brushless DC (RLDC) motor. In case of the speed control of robot arms and tracking applications with lower stiffness, we cannot design the speed controller gain to be very large from the viewpoint of the system stability Thus, the feedforward compensation method using disturbance torque observer was proposed. This method can improve the speed characteristic without increasing the speed controller gain. The speed characteristic against disturbance torque can be improved when the bandwidth of the speed controller cannot be made large enough. Consequently, the speed control of the BLDC motor for the high-performance application become achieved.

  • Generally, the digital controller has many advantages such as high precision, robustness to electrical noise, capability of flexible programming and fast response to the load variation. In this study, we have established proper mathematical equivalent model of Brushless DC (BLDC) motor and estimated the motor parameter by means of the back-emf measurement as being the step input to the controlled target BLDC motor. And the validity of proposed estimation method is confirmed by the test result of step response. As well, we have designed the reasonable digital controller as a consequence of the root locus method which is obtained from the open-loop transfer function of BLDC motor with hall sensor, and the determination of control gain for variable speed control. Here, revised Ziegler-Nichols tuning method is applied for the proper digital gain establishment, and the system stability is verified by the frequency domain analysis with Bode-plot and experimentation.

  • This article presents a closed loop control of DC series motor fed by DC chopper controlled by an PID controller based intelligent control using ANN (Artificial Neural Network). The PID-ANN controller performances are analyzed in both steady state and dynamic operating condition with various set speed and various load torque. Here two different motor parameters are taken for analysis (220V and 110V motor parameters). The static and dynamic performances are taken for comparison with conventional PID controller and existing work. The steady state stability analysis of the system also made using the transfer function model. The equation model is also done to analysis the performances by set speed change and load torque change. The proposed controller have better control over the conventional PID controller and the reported existing work. This system is initially simulated using MATLAB / Simulink and then experimental setup done using P89V51RD2BN microcontroller.

  • The brushless DC motor's commutation torque ripple is caused by inconsistency in the rate of phase current change. Thus, a method that considers armature resistance is proposed to modulate phase current. The three-phase control strategy, which involves the "open-phase conduction, off-phase pulse width modulation, and maintained non-commutation phase" technique, is applied during commutation at full-speed segments of the motor. Changes in each phase current are analyzed theoretically by establishing mathematical model based on phase current to determine the relative difference among shutdown phase, duty, and motor operating parameters. The turn-on and turn-off phase current change rates are made to be consistent to ensure less non-commutation phase current ripple, then the torque ripple is inhibited. The simulation results show that the phase commutation current and torque ripple coefficient of the proposed method are reduced from 56.9% and 55.5% to 6.8% and 6.1%, respectively. In the experiment system, the pulsation coefficient of the motor phase current is reduced from 40.0% to 16.7% at low speed and 50.0% to 18.8% at high speed. The simulation and experimental results show that the proposed control method significantly inhibits commutation current and torque in the full section.

  • This paper presents the vector control of single phase induction motor(SPIM) to operate water pumping system using PV system with a maximum power point tracking(MPPT). The water pumping system uses a variable speed SPIM driven a centrifugal pump by field oriented control(FOC) inverter. The MPPT using a DC-DC converter controlled the duty cycle to track maximum power from PV under different insolation conditions. The duty cycle directly relate with a flux producing current control($i_{ds}$). The FOC inverter uses a current control voltage source inverter(CC-VSI). The simulation results are shown that the characteristics and performance of drive system, which varies as each conditions of light by expresses in voltage($V_{dq}$), current($I_{dq}$), speed of motor and torque.

  • This paper presents a power control method of high-speed single-phase BLDC motor. Most electric appliances require a power factor corrector (PFC) to mitigate grid current harmonics. However, the reactive components and power semiconductors in the PFC increase system cost and dimension. In this paper, a new motor drive system for a high-speed single-phase BLDC motor is proposed, which can decrease grid current harmonics without PFC by directly manipulating motor power and eliminating bulky electrolytic dc-link capacitor. Given that the proposed motor power control method does not require motor current controller, no current sensor is necessary. Moreover, the proposed algorithms can be easily implemented using a low-cost micro-controller. The effectiveness of the proposed power control method is verified by experiments.

  • Several methods of induction motor drives which used speed estimators instead of shaft encoders have been reported. However those speed sensorless systems with estimators employing stator voltates and currents usually deteriorates as the speed gets lower because it is difficult to calculate the accurate rotor flux under the influence of DC-offset and saturation of integrators. In this paper to calculate rotor flux at low speed the new rotor flux estimator which replaces integra-tors with two lag circuits is proposed. Simulation and experiment results confirm the validity of this control scheme.
