  • This paper presents new self excited DC-DC converters such as Buck-boost type, Buck type and also non-inverting Buck-boost type. The proposed converters has the following advantages: simple topology, small number of circuit components, easy control method. Therefore, these converters are suitable for the portable appliances with battery source. It is especially suited for low power DC-DC conversion applications where non isolation output power is usually required. The steady state characteristics of proposed self exciting Buck-boost DC-DC converter are analysis and the result shows good agreement with experimental value. Furthermore the experimental results for 50W class self oscillating Buck-boost DC-DC converter have been obtained, which demonstrate the high efficiency and good performance.

  • In this paper, after applying Defected Ground Structure(DGS) to DC block, changes of gap and length of λ/4 coupled line are investigated by EM simulation and fabrication. As a result, on condition of the same output with the case using typical DC block, the gap between λ/4 coupled line is widen from 0.1 mm to 0.46 mm by 0.36 mm and the length of λ/4 coupled line gets shorter from 17.7 mm to 13.2 mm by 4.5 mm. Also three type power amplifiers using blocking capacitor, typical DC block and DGS DC block are fabricated and investigated. At first, when S parameter characteristics of each amplifier are considered at frequency band of 3.2 +-0.O5 GHz, every amplifier has similar characteristics of gain and S parameter. Second when the output power of amplifiers is 25 dBm after putting CW signal of 3.2 GHz into three type amplifiers, the difference of dominant signal and 2nd harmonic signal using blocking capacitor, typical DC block and DGS DC block is each -44.83 dBc, -66.84 dBc and -64.33 dBc. Therefore harmonic characteristics of amplifiers using typical DC block and DGS DC block is almost same.

  • The performance of copper-tungsten for electrodes used in an ultra high voltage interruption system was evaluated by means of an interruption test, which requires a large-scale apparatus and high cost. In this study, prior to the interruption test, the characteristics of a Cu-W electrode were estimated through the DC arc test, which is a simple, low cost procedure. The DC arc characteristics of a 20wt%Cu-80wt%W electrode were investigated with the change of tungsten powder size distribution and the addition of nickel. In specimens containing a high volume fraction of large sized tungsten particles, the relative density and hardness of sintered Cu-W electrodes increased while the electrical conductivity and the DC arc resistance decreased. Furthermore, the relative density became enhanced with the increase of the amount of nickel while the hardness and electrical conductivity diminished and the DC arc resistance worsened.

  • The authors analyzed harmonic current based loss of a high temperature superconducting (HTS) DC model cable. The loss in HTS DC cable is generated due to the variation of magnetic field caused by harmonic current in a HVDC transmission system. The authors designed and fabricated two meters of HTS DC model cable for verification of real loss characteristic. In this paper, the loss characteristics caused by harmonic current in the HTS DC model cable are analyzed using commercial finite element method software package. The loss of the HTS DC cable is much less than the loss of the HTS AC cable but the loss should be considered to decide a proper capacity of cooling system.

  • This paper deals with the ZVS characteristics of a bidirectional DC/DC converter in idling mode. Simulations are carried out with the supercapacitor which maximum voltage is 50 V. It is found that the ZVS can be achieved as far as the supercapacitor voltage is below 94% of the maximum voltage in idling mode. Therefore, the switching loss in the mode can be small by control the upper limit of the supercapacitor voltage.

  • An LCL-type isolated dc-dc converter is analyzed, using ac approximation. Analyses to express characteristics on the proposed converter are derived under steady and ideal elements conditions in this paper. The two operating modes can be identified from the analysis results representing different device conduction sequences. This converter is capable of achieving required output voltage(step up or down) operations with inductance ratio while operated at fixed frequency with constant duty ratio-50%. Experimental results show that the designed converter based on Q has zero voltage switching and constant output voltage at different load variations to verify the analysis.

  • This paper deals with the output characteristics of resonant PWM inverter type X-ray generators connected to different DC power units i.e. a single phase full bridge rectifier, a three phase full bridge rectifier and a power storage unit(PSU). The quality of X-ray beam depend on the pulsation waveforms of DC voltage supplied to the X-ray tulbe. In a X-ray generator, the waveforme of DC output voltage can be affected from hramonic distortion of DC input power. When a tube voltage waveform is distorded, the property of X-ray beam such as reproducibility, direcibility and doesage can be reduced. Therefore, we compared DC output waveforms and doesages with three thpe of DC power units and show the experimental results in this paper

  • Recently, new trend in telecommunication device is to apply low voltage, about 3.3V-1.5V. However, it is undesirable in view of high efficiency and power desity which is the most important requirement in the distributed power system. Rectification loss in the output stage, in on-board converter for distributed power system are constrained to obtain high efficience at low output voltage power suppies. This paper explains the basic operational principles of three kinds of ZVS DC/DC converters with self-driven synchronous rectifier. The three topologies are analyzed by simulation and exprimentation, and the characteristics comparisons of high efficience converter are carried out in view of the minimized rectification losses in the out stage.

  • This paper proposes a fuzzy logic controlled new topology of high voltage gain zero voltage switching (ZVS) asymmetrical PWM full-bridge DC-DC boost converter for constant load and high power applications. The APWM full-bridge stage provides high voltage gain and soft-switching characteristics increase the efficiency and reduce the switching losses. Fuzzy logic controller (FLC) improves the performance and dynamic characteristics of the proposed converter. A comparison with a classical proportional-integral (PI) controller demonstrates the high performances of the proposed technique in terms of effective output voltage regulation under different operating conditions. Simulation is done by integrating two different simulation platforms $PSIM^{(R)}$ and $Matlab^{(R)}/Simulink^{(R)}$ by using SimCoupler tool of $PSIM^{(R)}$. Experimental results using 120W load have been provided to validate the results.
