  • The aim of this study is for performing the efficient and systematic facility maintenance management by using 2D CAD data and the technique of updating spatial DB. The existing system of the facility maintenance management and the performance is not properly made out utilizing the information about the construction drawings. Moreover, the management of the DB renewal, which is about the information of construction drawing, is not carried out properly Furthermore, this study draw the conclusion on the effectiveness of reducing maintaining active by the lack of the interior and exterior location information. This study suggest the method of the efficient maintenance management of facilities by using the technique of updating spatial DB and the facility location information.

  • Kiscon, Seumteo, KONEPS and CSI are representative construction-related DBs. All four DBs are operated by the public. However, the characteristics of data are different depending on the purpose. Therefore, it is difficult to utilize integrated data and it is only used sparingly. Creating and sharing a unique key that can identify a construction site will enable integrated accumulation and management of construction-related data for various purposes. At this point, it is most efficient to assign a unique key based on KISCON. KISCOn data conforms to the construction site definition and covers most of the public, private, architectural and civil works. In addition, there is an advantage in that DB construction is performed in the construction situation, which is a relatively preceding process. In the future, it is necessary to create a practical construction site integrated DB through the production of an integrated key table containing linkage information of unique keys for site management, performance indicators, and statistics production.

  • Design build (DB) is a construction project delivery system which has become one of the favored ones and the growth of DB by the public agencies has been steadily increasing. DB can be viewed as an evolutionary project delivery system, since DB project team members collaborate on work with each other, keep seeking cost effective and innovative alternatives that meet the construction needs of the project. Thus DB outperformed others in delivery speed, cost saving, and turnover quality. In Korea, DB projects likewise have steadily increased that it is needed to analyze characteristics of DB delivery system in Korea. For that purpose, this research would offer an analysis of characteristics of DB delivery system in Korea using system dynamics model with investigating the public market trend, comparing DB performance to DBB, and analyzing questionnaire survey.

  • When watershed spatial database is constructed from DEM, hydrological geographic characteristics of watershed can be easily extracted. And the characteristics can be assigned and managed as the attribute of spatial database. In this study the scheme of constructing framework spatial database which is basic information for managing watershed information is examined. We established framework spatial data and defined the relationship of the data. And framework spatial database of test site was constructed. In this study, HyGIS(Hydrological Geographic Information System) which is developed by domestic technology for making hydrological spatial data and developing water resources system is used. Hydrological geographic characteristics and spatial data is extracted by HyGIS. And the data from HyGIS is used for constructing framework spatial database of test site. Finally, this study suggests the strategy of constructing framework spatial database for developing watershed management system based on river network.

  • This paper addresses the effective and quantitative image DB construction for the development of front looking camera systems. The automotive industry has expanded the capability of front camera solutions that will help ADAS(Advanced Driver Assistance System) applications targeting Euro NCAP function requirements. These safety functions include AEB(Autonomous Emergency Braking), TSR(Traffic Signal Recognition), LDW(Lane Departure Warning) and FCW(Forward Collision Warning). In order to guarantee real road safety performance, the driving image DB logged under various real road conditions should be used to train core object classifiers and verify the function performance of the camera system. However, the driving image DB would entail an invalid and time consuming task without proper guidelines. The standard working procedures and design factors required for each step to build an effective image DB for reliable automotive front looking camera systems are proposed.

  • In this study, we suggested the specifical DB construction that was classified by Urban Regeneration Project through reviewing act related the Urban Regeneration. The DB of Urban Regeneration will be helpful for assisting and managing of Urban Regeneration Project. For this, we examined act & plan for the urban regeneration and deduced the demanded index of the project, in the result, we suggested DB build method. We expect that support and management for urban regeneration through presented index in this study.

Analysis and Quantitative Estimation of Risk Factors of Design-Build (턴키 프로젝트에서 리스크요인 분석 및 정량적 평가)

  • The Risks in undertaking a construction project comes from many sources and often involves many participants in the project. This study has identified various kinds of risks, assessed the risk factors quantitatively and suggested risk management method for response pertinent in Design Build(Turn Key)type of projects in Korean context. A questionnaire was designed comprising of 145 possible risks in all types of construction projects. The population from owner, consultant and contractor groups was asked to indicate the risks applicable in DB projects. 25 numbers of critical risks in DB projects were identified and further analyzed for reveling inherent relationship between them through factor analysis. Factor analysis revealed 8 risk factors in DB projects. Construction site related, contract related and design related risk factor consisted about 72% of total risk weight. It has been found out about 6%, while considering the mutual dependency, it is about 10% of total cost of DB project. Therefore, It is suggested that 6% to 10% of construction amount as contingency has to be made provision for risk responses in the DB projects.

  • Recently geospatial information has used widely in many areas such as effective use and management of national land, establishment of city planning, managements of environments and disasters, etc. But present digital map is not suitable for nowadays because of delay of information renewal and changes of topography. In this study, GIS DB construction method was researched through the process of extracting main vector layers such as buildings, roads, contours, etc. from LiDAR data. In order to analyze accuracies of constructed data, the digital topographic maps of 1:1000 scale which were produced by Korea National Geographic Information Institute(NGI) and results of GPS survey were used. Effective DB construction method was suggested through comparing with existing GIS DB construction methods.

Design-Build Change Order Impacts in Highway Projects

  • Design-Build (DB) has gained in popularity in roadway projects due to its defining advantage to improve communication and fast-track project delivery. However, very little is known about the impact of change order frequency and occurrence timing pertaining to DB projects. The study analyzes their impacts on project time and cost performance by conducting a rigorous numerical analysis drawing on 530 3R (rehabilitation, reconstruction, and resurfacing) projects completed between 2002 and 2011 in Florida by using a multiple linear regression. The results indicate that DB outperformed Design-Bid-Build in project cost as well as time. Critically, the regression analysis signifies that earlier change order occurrence caused more unfavorable impacts on schedule and cost. The proposed analyses and models will lead to the improved ability of agencies to quickly and more reliably estimate the potential change order impacts on schedule and cost.

  • The architectural drawing, construction project specification, etc. are included in the contract of a documents. However, construction project specification, for being documentation, is not utilized to such an extent. The reason is that specification information is difficult in collecting information in relation to the architectural drawing, material finishing list and other architectural information. Therefore, an integrated model, which can be associated with other architectural information, is needed, and a DB based on this integrated model must be established in order for it to be utilized in design, construction, and management. The DB, which is established through this process, must be updated according to modification in design, and construction. Furthermore the specification must be in document on the web for reference. Consequently in this research, the structure of integrated model has been introduced, and it has made the search and preparation of the integrated model on the Internet, using the specification information DB established for the mutual reference of DB, possible. The improvements of construction project specification standards are expected by this system. Also, it will bring about Improvements upon claim prevention, and design, construction, management qualities. Furthermore, it will make the use of information more convenient in practical business such as order agency, design service and building site.
