  • DEM has been used for various purposes overall fields of engineering, the fields of civil engineering, military, communication, environment, and so forth and its applications are being extending increasingly. It is well hewn that LiDAR DEM is definitely superior to the other surveying methods. But LiDAR DEM run short of a full study about vertical accuracy. In order to assess LiDAR DEM, total 35 stations were selected and surveyed by GPS for utilizing as reference data. And then accuracy of LiDAR DEM was analyzed by comparison between both LiDAR DEM and CPS surveying. The RMSE of ${\pm}0.109m$ was shown in vertical direction. It is within the permissible accuracy required for mapping on a scale of 1 to 500 and 1 to 1000 on the mapping rule notified by the National Geographic Information Institute. It is expected that the results of this study will be fully used in the field of large scale DEM generation and be utilized as basic information in applied field of LiDAR DEM.

  • In this study, the points of LiDAR were modified in order to generate various DEM resolutions by applying LiDAR data in Ulsan. Since the LiDAR data have points with 1m intervals, the number of points for each resolution was modified to the size of 1, 5, 10, 30, 50, 100m by uniformly eliminating the points. A runoff analysis was performed on Taehwa river and its tributary, Dongcheon, with 200 year rainfall exceedance probability. 2-dimensional inundation analysis was performed based on the density of LiDAR data using FLUMEN, which was used to establish domestic flood risk map. Once DEM data obtained from LiDAR survey are used, it is expected that the study results can be used as data in determining optimal grid spacing, which is economical, effective and accurate in establishing flood defence plans including the creation of flood risk map.

  • There are many previous researches such as verification of accuracy, application, and change detection of discrete return LiDAR data, but no researches for full waveform LiDAR data. In this study, we selected the forest area and urban area as case study areas and compared the height accuracy of full waveform LiDAR data with field surveying data. As a result, we got an RMSE of 3.lcm in urban area, 4.7cm in forest area, and it is verified that height accuracy of full waveform LiDAR is high. We think that it is very usefull in aerial photogrammetry.

  • The purpose of this paper is forcasting of flooding area using LiDAR surveying data, and flood map for damage prevention is established for this purpose. Teahwa river at Ulsan city was chosen as test area and the flood simulation was produced in this area. For the flood simulation, each DEM using LiDAR data and digital map was established and then HEC model program and MIKE program was used to decide the amount of flood flowing and flood height. To improve the rainfall-overflow simulation confidence using inspection comparison of LiDAR data this paper analyzed and compared the LiDAR DEM accuracy and 1/5000 digital map DEM. The height accuracy is important factor to make flood map, however, LiDAR survey execution of all river area is not economic so, LiDAR survey execution of only important area is possible to be make high accuracy and economic flood map. The expectation effect of flood simulation is flood damage prevention and economic savings of recovery cost by forcasting of rainfall-overflow area and establishment of counter-measure.

  • LiDAR has capability of rapid data acquisition and provides useful information for reconstructing surface of the Earth. However, Extracting information from LiDAR data is not easy task because LiDAR data consist of irregularly distributed point clouds of 3D coordinates and lack of semantic and visual information. This thesis proposed methods for automatic extraction of buildings and 3D detail modeling using airborne LiDAR data. As for preprocessing, noise and unnecessary data were removed by iterative surface fitting and then classification of ground and non-ground data was performed by analyzing histogram. Footprints of the buildings were extracted by tracing points on the building boundaries. The refined footprints were obtained by regularization based on the building hypothesis. The accuracy of building footprints were evaluated by comparing with 1:1,000 digital vector maps. The horizontal RMSE was 0.56m for test areas. Finally, a method of 3D modeling of roof superstructure was developed. Statistical and geometric information of the LiDAR data on building roof were analyzed to segment data and to determine roof shape. The superstructures on the roof were modeled by 3D analytical functions that were derived by least square method. The accuracy of the 3D modeling was estimated using simulation data. The RMSEs were 0.91m, 1.43m, 1.85m and 1.97m for flat, sloped, arch and dome shapes, respectively. The methods developed in study show that the automation of 3D building modeling process was effectively performed.

  • This study : An analysis of position accuracy of topography according to using LiDAR data, aerial photo and digital map for a study area was conducted. The study area was selected in Hadan area, Sahagu, Busan aerial LiDAR data and aerial photo in the scales of 1:20,000, which are high tech surveying ways were used. The final digital orthoimage according to orientation process for each image and image resampling was producted. Using it, a checkpoint was chosen, information about the checkpoints selected was extracted, a coordinate of Horizontal Position through the screen digitizing was also extracted. Both the coordinates of LiDAR data and aerial photo using digital map in the scales of 1:20,000 announced to the public from NGII(National Geographic Information Institute) were gradually compared and analyzed. Based on the digital map, as a result of being both compared and analyzed, it has shown to us that horizontal position of aerial photo is more accurate than that of aerial LiDAR surveying (RMSE-building x:24cm, y:26cm).

  • The use of airborne LiDAR data obtained by airborne laser scanners has increased in the field of spatial information such as building modeling. LiDAR data consist of irregularly distributed 3D coordinates and lack visual and semantic information. Therefore, LiDAR data processing is complicate. This study suggested a method of LiDAR data segmentation using roof surface patches from aerial images. Each segmented patch was modeled by analyzing geometric characteristics of the LiDAR data. The optimal functions could be determined with segmented data that fits various shapes of the roof surfaces as flat and slanted planes, dome and arch types. However, satisfiable segmentation results were not obtained occasionally due to shadow and tonal variation on the images. Therefore, methods to remove unnecessary edges result in incorrect segmentation are required.

  • A terrestrial LiDAR survey was conducted and unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV) images were taken for target cultural properties to present the utilization measures of terrestrial LiDAR and UAV in three-dimensional modeling of cultural properties for the identification of the status and restoration of cultural properties. Then the accuracy of the point clouds generated through this process was compared, an overlap analysis of the 3D model was conducted, and a convergence model was created. According to the results, the modeling with terrestrial LiDAR is more appropriate for precise survey because 3D modeling for the detection of displacement and deformation of cultural properties requires an accuracy of mm units. And UAV model has limitation as the impossibility of detailed expression of parts with sharp unevenness such as cracks of bricks. However, it is found that the UAV model has a wide range of modeling and has the advantage of modeling of real cultural properties. Finally, the convergence model created in this study using the advantages of the terrestrial LiDAR model and the UAV model could be efficiently utilized for the basic data development of cultural properties.

  • Multi LiDAR sensors are being mounted on autonomous vehicles, and a system to multi LiDAR sensors data is required. When sensors data is transmitted or processed to the main processor, a huge amount of data causes a load on the transport network or data processing. In order to minimize the number of load overhead into LiDAR sensor processors, only semantic data is transmitted through data comparison between frames in LiDAR data. When data from 4 LiDAR sensors are processed in a static environment without moving objects and a dynamic environment in which a person moves within sensor's field of view, in a static experiment environment, the transmitted data reduced by 89.5% from 232,104 to 26,110 bytes. In dynamic environment, it was possible to reduce the transmitted data by 88.1% to 29,179 bytes.

  • Despite various light detection and ranging (LiDAR) architectures, it is very difficult to achieve long-range detection and high resolution in both vertical and horizontal directions with a wide field of view (FOV). The scanning architecture is advantageous for high-performance LiDAR that can attain long-range detection and high resolution for vertical and horizontal directions. However, a large-area photodetector (PD), which is disadvantageous for detection speed, is essentially required to secure the wide FOV. Thus we propose a PD based on the static unitary detector (STUD) technique that can operate multiple small-area PDs as a single large-area PD at a high speed. The InP/InGaAs STUD PIN-PD proposed in this paper is fabricated in various types, ranging from 1,256 ㎛×949 ㎛ using 32 small-area PDs of 1,256 ㎛×19 ㎛. In addition, we measure and analyze the noise and signal characteristics of the LiDAR receiving board, as well as the performance and sensitivity of various types of STUD PDs. Finally, the LiDAR receiving board utilizing the STUD PD is applied to a 3D scanning LiDAR prototype that uses a 1.5-㎛ master oscillator power amplifier laser. This LiDAR precisely detects long-range objects over 50 m away, and acquires high-resolution 3D images of 320 pixels×240 pixels with a diagonal FOV of 32.6 degrees simultaneously.
